I know this is not the best forum for politic discussions, but this should be an interesting one. So, who would you vote for (or maybe already voted) and why? My obvious choice is Obama, I don't really care about the skin color, but he seems to be young and smart person, with nice sense of humor. If I'm not mistaken, he's against the second amendment and stuff like NRA - this is also what would Lisa like Also, his words about my country was much more calm and reasonable than what he heard from McCain. P.S. No voting in the thread... since you already have one

Hem well... I usually don't give my politic opinion on public board but because it's a great event, I'll make an exception In fact, I think that I'm more close to the ideas of Obama, but it's hard to be sure because the media coverage of this election in France was really unfair (I tried to make an article about that for my school: http://en.lgdlab.fr/2008/11/02/united-states-presidential-election-viewed-from-france/). DagdamorI'm not sure that Obama is against the second amendment. I think he just want to control a little bit guns sells (but people of USA are more aware of what Obama want to do about weapon's control than me, I guess). In France, citizens don't have the right to carry weapons and I think that it's a good thing (there is a very low number of people who are shot in France each year). But France and USA are two very different countries so I think I don't have the 'right' to judge what Americans do. I'm waiting for the result too (it's 1 am in France and I work tomorrow but I want to see an approximate result before sleeping ). Wait&See!

Uh... heh. Didn't expect to see this come up here being that this isn't exactly an American forum. But I'll give my two cents here I guess.
First of all, I'm sixteen, and the legal age to vote in the U.S. is eighteen, so I didn't vote. But I don't think I would have even I could have - I don't really support either candidate. McCain is pro-Iraq war, something that I believe should be over and done with already, and Obama is pro-abortion and pro-homosexuality, two things I don't support or agree with. So you could say I don't really have a horse in this race.
I'm sort of interested to see who wins though - if McCain manages to win, it'll be something of a shock and give rise to questions about racism in America, being that recent polls clearly show Obama in the lead. However if Obama wins, it'll be interesting to see how he goes about making this "great change" in America as his campaign has promised all this time.
As I said, I wouldn't have voted even if I could have, but if I was forced to pick a candidate, I'd go with McCain.
I actually typed up a long blog dedicated to this the other night, but I'm not sure if this is the appropriate place to post it...?

I leaned towards Obama (even though I would be comfortable with either candidate in the White House) simply because I like his running mate better than McCain's. Should the unthinkable happen, I would perfer Biden to Palin.

Just want to take this opportunity to say: Congratulations President Obama! I think this is a great step forward for the U.S., being that this is our first black president, the racial boundaries have really been shattered. November 4th, 2008 - a great day for freedom.

I am and was for Obama too. In cause of his charismatic appearance I wasn't sure if it's not deflecting from his genuine person. Maybe McCain would be the better decision - I think we never find out - he isn't the youngest anymore. But now we should hope that he will be able to find solutions for so many problems which must be solved.

I'm waiting for Euronews here (they should start translating here any moment), to see the details about the elections. I know this won't affect my life much, but I'm glad Obama won! Hehe, now I believe that Americans don't have racist complexes and can think their own minds Let's see where all this will go. When we elected Medvedev, nobody really believed in him like in new president - he was pure Putin's follower, and he was the only decent pretender here (some moments concerning our last election campaign still make me turn red), but some time has passed, and Medvedev started looking much more assured and confident. I'm sure Obama will easily pass the same way He will experience many problems on his way, too. Right now America seems to be not the best economy to inherit. Makes me remember about Lisa's reaction in "Bart to the Future"...

Casper Not only you! I also sympathize Clinton a lot, I believe he was a great president. That stupid story has nothing to do with his job; and his decisions were much more useful for the country than... than you know whose. And since Clinton supports Obama, I'm sure we will hear more about him during next four years. Besides, Obama is rather young, he'd need any kind of help from more experienced politics.

Black_ravenI thought it was just a vote between Obama and McCain O_o... Well it was, after June. What happens is this: First the Republicans and the Democrats have to decide who their candidate is. These are called "primaries" and basically voters have to decide who will represent their party. Obama beat runners like John Edwards, Joe Biden (who would eventually become his Vice President), and the one who gave him the biggest run for his money, Hillary Clinton. It was a very close call between Clinton and Obama, but in June it was decided. It's the same way that John McCain had to defeat runners like Mitt Romney, Mike Huckabee, and Ron Paul in the Republican primaries (although he was the clear-cut winner, as opposed to the months of Obama/Hillary fighting).

G.H.I think he means that he wanted Hillary Clinton to beat Barack Obama in the Democratic primaries. Aah, that one Don't know. If you asked me, I'd say president's wife is president's wife. No matter how qualified she is, there is still a possibility that she goes into politics only because she was close to it for many years, not because she really needs to be a president. I'm not against seeing a woman in the president's chair, but not a president's second half if you understand me. Hillary seems to be a nice person, but I haven't seen a single wise politic decision from her. Maybe that's because I'm looking at the situation from the distant side, but still...

I'm going to throw in my two cents here, but only briefly and with as little anger as possible. I personally HATE the way this whole vote went. Not due to the fact that Obama won, but because there was no lesser of the evils in this case. I personally wanted to see either obama or hillary to win, simply because I wanted to see who the next gunman on the Grassy Knoll was going to be. But to be totally serious I truly wanted to just see this election slide away and find that nothing had really changed.
Change is the big word that for some reason keeps going around in this election too. I guess Obama I supposed to be this big spire of difference for the country and i think that for the most part, people are looking at his race more than his actual experience. (Yes I am playing the reverse race card here.) While I am not going to say that McCain would have done better, I dont know much of his whole campaign, giving that I was in Basic Training away from a TV for three months, I do know that Obama shouldn't be looked upon as the fork in the road for our government.
If he intends to change things, he had better start quick. The senator, now President Elect, spent two years in his job and never once even bothered to attempt to put a bill out for any kind of change. Call me an ass, but I really dont find that little nugget of information to be all that settling.
So I might be a bit biased too... I happen to like my job and McCain is an ex-soldier/ POW, so I tend to give him a little more credit than Obama. besides that the last time that a Democrat took office (WillyJ in the hiz-ouse) governmental spending was suspended for 5 weeks, which means that no one who worked a government based job got paid at all for that whole month and a week. Yes Billy did do a good number of good things (not including the cow... *Shifty eyes*) he still needed a lot of work and I really dont want things to hit the fan like that again. Remember History always repeats itself.
I'll stop here...before I ostracize myself anymore.

Vanguard20 What gays have to do with this? Obama neither supports them nor plans to act against them IIRC. This is called tolerance, something you should know too... In his first months, Obama will have much, much more important problems to handle rather than sexual minorities.
