Here is some 'tries' I made with Adobe Flash. I learn how to draw Lisa with the book ' Cartooning with the Simpsons' (a very good book for a begginer like me ) but I can't draw any other character of the show than Lisa for the moment . I have to learn how to draw backgrounds too... So, the first picture is a high resolution of my avatar (colored and sketch versions on the same picture) and the two others are a simple drawing of Lisa (sketch and colored versions).

Lo?cI like the high-resolution version of your avatar even more because shading is visible there. Good job! About the second picture... it's great too, I'm glad to see a finished version, not only a sketch. Flash seems to be useful tool for you, smooth lines. I'd only nitpick that Lisa looks very well-fed. I can't draw any other character of the show than Lisa for the moment Same story here, although my "moment" lasts for several years... Keep up drawing!

CCD!Thanks! DagdamorI'd only nitpick that Lisa looks very well-fed. You're maybe right Or it's maybe just because she has the 'Simpson butt' Anyway, I need to practice (I'm trying to drawing Bart now).

Lo?c I agree with Serge about that she looks just a tad bit pudgy, but overall nicely done. As I've said before I think you did a good job on your avatar. Maybe her spikes are just a bit off, but it doesn't bother me at all.

Good tries, Loic! The main problem to the last pic is her right arm (never do angles, especially not in that way)... Lisa's arm should look just like two curves with yellow in between them Also, the body seems to be "stretched" horizontally, but i think a major fix would just be making the legs a bit thinner and closer to each other. Overall, clean crisp and cute !

Here are two others pictures I made some weeks ago: The first one ( lisa_famas.png) was made for the board of an online game I play: that's why the picture has a 'strange' size. Lisa is carrying a F.A.M.A.S. assault rifle (a French weapon) because my nickname on this game is Famas. The second picture ( simpsons_cell.png) is my first try to draw a background with Flash (and it's not very good for the moment ). I know that there are Metal Gear Solid’s fans on LTS, so for this picture, my inspiration came from his main competitor: Splinter Cell I hope you'll like them...

Lisa with guns? It's a Win Win situation! Seriously, the first one is a bit small yet i appreciate the idea, it could be great as a button. The second one is much more interesting, good crossover and very well done detail on Lisa's clothes-armor. As for Flash... it makes for good lines but lacks a bit in refining touches I'd suggest loading up the pic in PS or a similar program, and just brush some low opacity black color to create some very simple but effective shadows

SimpRealIn fact, I try to make pictures in Flash only because it can make vector graphics (and it's very interesting in order to make printable pictures) and Photoshop can't (maybe I need to use Illustrator). But I agree with you: for the moment, there isn't enough details, especially about shadows (I haven't find the way to choose layer opacity in Flash ). By the way, thanks for the review! EDIT: [...] the first one is a bit small yet i appreciate the idea, it could be great as a button In fact, it's a kind of button for a board. Final version is here: http://lgdlab.fr/images/ogame/banniere_nexus.png

Little update here... This is my first try to draw Homer (and my first winged Lisa). The picture is freely inspired by the fan-fiction Wings (by the way, thank you for this great fan-fiction Dagdamor ).

Lo?cWhoa! Thanks for drawing this, it's a wonderful picture... and I don't remember this particular scene to be drawn before. Maybe because it wasn't in the story, but it's great anyway I love it, you managed to keep the "correct" drawing style, both Lisa and Homer look like in the show (it was always an advantage for me), and at the same time you showed unusial situation. I also love how Lisa's wings are ruffled and raised up, like they are expressed her feelings instead of her hands. Homer looks confident anyway Nice job with lines and shading. Again, pictures drawn in this style are always my favorites! Thank you

GustavoThank you! DagdamorYes, this scene isn't really in your story. But it's inspired from this scene: The door had opened. Brockman stepped onto the threshold... and froze when a shotgun barrel was leveled against his face. Homer was staring at him with a very aggressive expression. Brockman stared down the barrel and raised his hands. I really like this scene because Homer acts like a very good father: he protects his daughter without thinking about the consequences. And I add Lisa in the picture (even if she was actually in the house) because I wanted to draw a winged Lisa. Thanks for your comment and thanks again for your story! UPDATE: I included the draft version of the picture if someone is interested.

Lo?cThanks for posting the sketch! I see you have used construction method - my respect, lately I don't see much artists using it, hell knows why. People prefer drawing "on the fly", resulting with quick sketches having noticeable proportion mistakes... on your draft, both Lisa and Homer look correct. If suggestions are welcome - when you draw legs, try positioning them on the picture just the same way you do with arms: i.e. if a character is turned to one side, like here, one hand is nearer to the viewer and therefore starts/ends lower than another one. The same with feet, for example Lisa's right foot should be positioned a bit lower, just like her right arm. That would give some additional volume to your picture.

DagdamorIf I use a lot construction method (which came from the book Cartooning with the Simpsons BTW), it's only because I can't draw anything without method: I'm not an artist but I can follow rules Thanks for the suggestion, I agree with you: there is a problem with Lisa's feet (I have difficulties with both feet & hands).

Lo?cI'm not an artist but I can follow rules Actually, following the rules is what makes you an artist! Re: feet and hands - they aren't hard to draw. I use the following method: before drawing legs, I stand in the same position myself and imagine how that should look from chosen point of view, where big toes are and where little toes are. The same with hands - I just look at my own hand to decide how it should look (-1 finger of course ). Also, Cartooning book has many examples concerning limbs. I should stop mumbling probably, but I hope to see more pictures from you. Good luck!

Just a simple sketch this time... The picture is a 'modern version' of a scene which came from the episode 'Lisa's Substitute'.
PS: Sorry about picture bad quality. I had to use JPEG format because picture's size is too big in PNG.

Lisa M. SimpsonIn fact I always wanted to draw a real train (this one is based on the TGV) so I put a lot of details. Lisa was added on the picture after, that's why the picture style is maybe different of the Matt Groening style.

Lo?cThe main mistake in this picture is that you've drawn the "trailing" locomotive of the train. Yes, they are always exist to allow a train to move in both direction, but if you wouldn't draw it, it wouldn't be a big mistake, and the picture wouldn't look like it's an arrival, not a departure. Also, Lisa has lost some of her spikes and her nose is almost invisible. Sorry if I'm too nitpicking today, the picture is good nonetheless, especially the perspective and all those details on rails and the train. A touching picture...

It has already been said that the train is drawn so realistcally that it takes a bit the attention from Lisa's part of the picture (which detracts from the overall emotion) but i'd say that if your goal was to draw a realistic looking TGV you've succeeded I like the hint of the shadow fallign behind Lisa like at sunset too.

DagdamorYes, they are always exist to allow a train to move in both direction, but if you wouldn't draw it, it wouldn't be a big mistake, and the picture wouldn't look like it's an arrival, not a departure. In fact, this type of train can't be used without a trailing locomotive because wheels are shared between the trailing locomotive and the last passenger car. So because it's impossible in the real world, I don't know how to draw this type of train without a trailing locomotive. But you're right anyway, it can look like an arrival. I'll try to add red lights on the trailing locomotive (like on the real train) and also a 'movement effect' (maybe a trail). Also, Lisa has lost some of her spikes and her nose is almost invisible. You're right, I will try to improve this part of the picture. Sorry if I'm too nitpicking today No problem. Your comments help me to progress. Thank you Casper & SimpRealThank you too!

So because it's impossible in the real world, I don't know how to draw this type of train without a trailing locomotive. Well, actually, this is wrong. The cars do share their wheels indeed, but not the locomotives. You also misplaced the pantograph (the thing that touches the catenaries [the wires]) a bit. Adding red lights would be appropriate, though. Nevertheless, this is a very nice picture.

One point for Andreas! I made another mistake with the shared wheels And for the pantograph, there is at least 3 mistakes: the position (as you said, Andreas), the number of pantograph (one is missing) and the side of the one I drew. PS: I hope my last sentence means something in English.

This new picture is dedicated to all people who learned the meaning of the word 'stochastic' in the episode Lisa's Wedding (like me ). In this picture, Lisa is explaining to me a mathematical exercise for an exam which I took two weeks ago. Sorry about the background which is not well detailed: I'm not very good for drawing background. There is maybe a reference to another episode in this picture... I let you guess...

Nice, very nice, beside her neck which is really too long and her forehead. I think the hypercube is this reference, which reminds me only on the movie, where Prof. Frink shows the people of Springfield how you can make a cube out of a square.

Lo?cI didn't know stochastic term means such a complex thing! Also, Lisa writes with her left hand and for some reason draws an arrow from the spike to origin But she has very good proportions overall, nice work with her hairstyle, her facial expression is a bit vague but I'll treat it as being proud of her formulas. Also, very good, pleasant colors and the background, like 4D cube you used. Keep it up!

Lisa M. Simpson I think the hypercube is this reference, which reminds me only on the movie, where Prof. Frink shows the people of Springfield how you can make a cube out of a square.
Yes, the hypercube is the reference: when in the episode 'Treehouse Of Horror VI', Prof. Frink shows how to draw in 2D a '3D square'. For people who don't know, the hypercube (or Tesseract) is a 2D representation of a 'four-dimensional cube' So if you think that it's weird, you can understand the point of view of the Simpsons about the 'Cube'.DagdamorI didn't know stochastic term means such a complex thing!
It's not complex, it's only Math , but I must admit: I don't understand very well the exercise that I used in this picture Thanks for the review!
