Here is some 'tries' I made with Adobe Flash. I learn how to draw Lisa with the book ' Cartooning with the Simpsons' (a very good book for a begginer like me ) but I can't draw any other character of the show than Lisa for the moment . I have to learn how to draw backgrounds too... So, the first picture is a high resolution of my avatar (colored and sketch versions on the same picture) and the two others are a simple drawing of Lisa (sketch and colored versions).

Lo?cI like the high-resolution version of your avatar even more because shading is visible there. Good job! About the second picture... it's great too, I'm glad to see a finished version, not only a sketch. Flash seems to be useful tool for you, smooth lines. I'd only nitpick that Lisa looks very well-fed. I can't draw any other character of the show than Lisa for the moment Same story here, although my "moment" lasts for several years... Keep up drawing!

CCD!Thanks! DagdamorI'd only nitpick that Lisa looks very well-fed. You're maybe right Or it's maybe just because she has the 'Simpson butt' Anyway, I need to practice (I'm trying to drawing Bart now).

Lo?c I agree with Serge about that she looks just a tad bit pudgy, but overall nicely done. As I've said before I think you did a good job on your avatar. Maybe her spikes are just a bit off, but it doesn't bother me at all.

Good tries, Loic! The main problem to the last pic is her right arm (never do angles, especially not in that way)... Lisa's arm should look just like two curves with yellow in between them Also, the body seems to be "stretched" horizontally, but i think a major fix would just be making the legs a bit thinner and closer to each other. Overall, clean crisp and cute !

Here are two others pictures I made some weeks ago: The first one ( lisa_famas.png) was made for the board of an online game I play: that's why the picture has a 'strange' size. Lisa is carrying a F.A.M.A.S. assault rifle (a French weapon) because my nickname on this game is Famas. The second picture ( simpsons_cell.png) is my first try to draw a background with Flash (and it's not very good for the moment ). I know that there are Metal Gear Solid’s fans on LTS, so for this picture, my inspiration came from his main competitor: Splinter Cell I hope you'll like them...

Lisa with guns? It's a Win Win situation! Seriously, the first one is a bit small yet i appreciate the idea, it could be great as a button. The second one is much more interesting, good crossover and very well done detail on Lisa's clothes-armor. As for Flash... it makes for good lines but lacks a bit in refining touches I'd suggest loading up the pic in PS or a similar program, and just brush some low opacity black color to create some very simple but effective shadows

SimpRealIn fact, I try to make pictures in Flash only because it can make vector graphics (and it's very interesting in order to make printable pictures) and Photoshop can't (maybe I need to use Illustrator). But I agree with you: for the moment, there isn't enough details, especially about shadows (I haven't find the way to choose layer opacity in Flash ). By the way, thanks for the review! EDIT: [...] the first one is a bit small yet i appreciate the idea, it could be great as a button In fact, it's a kind of button for a board. Little update here... This is my first try to draw Homer (and my first winged Lisa). The picture is freely inspired by the fan-fiction Wings (by the way, thank you for this great fan-fiction Dagdamor ).

Lo?cWhoa! Thanks for drawing this, it's a wonderful picture... and I don't remember this particular scene to be drawn before. Maybe because it wasn't in the story, but it's great anyway I love it, you managed to keep the "correct" drawing style, both Lisa and Homer look like in the show (it was always an advantage for me), and at the same time you showed unusial situation. I also love how Lisa's wings are ruffled and raised up, like they are expressed her feelings instead of her hands. Homer looks confident anyway Nice job with lines and shading. Again, pictures drawn in this style are always my favorites! Thank you

GustavoThank you! DagdamorYes, this scene isn't really in your story. But it's inspired from this scene: The door had opened. Brockman stepped onto the threshold... and froze when a shotgun barrel was leveled against his face. Homer was staring at him with a very aggressive expression. Brockman stared down the barrel and raised his hands. I really like this scene because Homer acts like a very good father: he protects his daughter without thinking about the consequences. And I add Lisa in the picture (even if she was actually in the house) because I wanted to draw a winged Lisa. Thanks for your comment and thanks again for your story! UPDATE: I included the draft version of the picture if someone is interested.

Lo?cThanks for posting the sketch! I see you have used construction method - my respect, lately I don't see much artists using it, hell knows why. People prefer drawing "on the fly", resulting with quick sketches having noticeable proportion mistakes... on your draft, both Lisa and Homer look correct. If suggestions are welcome - when you draw legs, try positioning them on the picture just the same way you do with arms: i.e. if a character is turned to one side, like here, one hand is nearer to the viewer and therefore starts/ends lower than another one. The same with feet, for example Lisa's right foot should be positioned a bit lower, just like her right arm. That would give some additional volume to your picture.

DagdamorIf I use a lot construction method (which came from the book Cartooning with the Simpsons BTW), it's only because I can't draw anything without method: I'm not an artist but I can follow rules Thanks for the suggestion, I agree with you: there is a problem with Lisa's feet (I have difficulties with both feet & hands).

Lo?cI'm not an artist but I can follow rules Actually, following the rules is what makes you an artist! Re: feet and hands - they aren't hard to draw. I use the following method: before drawing legs, I stand in the same position myself and imagine how that should look from chosen point of view, where big toes are and where little toes are. The same with hands - I just look at my own hand to decide how it should look (-1 finger of course ). Also, Cartooning book has many examples concerning limbs. I should stop mumbling probably, but I hope to see more pictures from you. Good luck!

Just a simple sketch this time... The picture is a 'modern version' of a scene which came from the episode 'Lisa's Substitute'.
PS: Sorry about picture bad quality. I had to use JPEG format because picture's size is too big in PNG.

Lisa M. SimpsonIn fact I always wanted to draw a real train (this one is based on the TGV) so I put a lot of details. Lisa was added on the picture after, that's why the picture style is maybe different of the Matt Groening style.

Lo?cThe main mistake in this picture is that you've drawn the "trailing" locomotive of the train. Yes, they are always exist to allow a train to move in both direction, but if you wouldn't draw it, it wouldn't be a big mistake, and the picture wouldn't look like it's an arrival, not a departure. Also, Lisa has lost some of her spikes and her nose is almost invisible. Sorry if I'm too nitpicking today, the picture is good nonetheless, especially the perspective and all those details on rails and the train. A touching picture...

I love the detail on the train Its amazingly realistic and in terrific perspective on the tracks. Not much to comment (I'm both ill and tired ) but I really liked this picture, very good.

It has already been said that the train is drawn so realistcally that it takes a bit the attention from Lisa's part of the picture (which detracts from the overall emotion) but i'd say that if your goal was to draw a realistic looking TGV you've succeeded I like the hint of the shadow fallign behind Lisa like at sunset too.

DagdamorYes, they are always exist to allow a train to move in both direction, but if you wouldn't draw it, it wouldn't be a big mistake, and the picture wouldn't look like it's an arrival, not a departure. In fact, this type of train can't be used without a trailing locomotive because wheels are shared between the trailing locomotive and the last passenger car. So because it's impossible in the real world, I don't know how to draw this type of train without a trailing locomotive. But you're right anyway, it can look like an arrival. I'll try to add red lights on the trailing locomotive (like on the real train) and also a 'movement effect' (maybe a trail). Also, Lisa has lost some of her spikes and her nose is almost invisible. You're right, I will try to improve this part of the picture. Sorry if I'm too nitpicking today No problem. Your comments help me to progress. Thank you Casper & SimpRealThank you too!

So because it's impossible in the real world, I don't know how to draw this type of train without a trailing locomotive. Well, actually, this is wrong. The cars do share their wheels indeed, but not the locomotives. You also misplaced the pantograph (the thing that touches the catenaries [the wires]) a bit. Adding red lights would be appropriate, though. Nevertheless, this is a very nice picture.

One point for Andreas! I made another mistake with the shared wheels And for the pantograph, there is at least 3 mistakes: the position (as you said, Andreas), the number of pantograph (one is missing) and the side of the one I drew. PS: I hope my last sentence means something in English.

This new picture is dedicated to all people who learned the meaning of the word 'stochastic' in the episode Lisa's Wedding (like me ). In this picture, Lisa is explaining to me a mathematical exercise for an exam which I took two weeks ago. Sorry about the background which is not well detailed: I'm not very good for drawing background. There is maybe a reference to another episode in this picture... I let you guess...

Nice, very nice, beside her neck which is really too long and her forehead. I think the hypercube is this reference, which reminds me only on the movie, where Prof. Frink shows the people of Springfield how you can make a cube out of a square.

Lo?cI didn't know stochastic term means such a complex thing! Also, Lisa writes with her left hand and for some reason draws an arrow from the spike to origin But she has very good proportions overall, nice work with her hairstyle, her facial expression is a bit vague but I'll treat it as being proud of her formulas. Also, very good, pleasant colors and the background, like 4D cube you used. Keep it up!

Lisa M. Simpson I think the hypercube is this reference, which reminds me only on the movie, where Prof. Frink shows the people of Springfield how you can make a cube out of a square.
Yes, the hypercube is the reference: when in the episode 'Treehouse Of Horror VI', Prof. Frink shows how to draw in 2D a '3D square'. For people who don't know, the hypercube (or Tesseract) is a 2D representation of a 'four-dimensional cube' So if you think that it's weird, you can understand the point of view of the Simpsons about the 'Cube'.DagdamorI didn't know stochastic term means such a complex thing!
It's not complex, it's only Math , but I must admit: I don't understand very well the exercise that I used in this picture Thanks for the review!

LoicJust a funny sudden idea I got about the hypercube you used for your picture: Frink used 2D chalkboard picture of a 3D cube to demonstrate the possibilities of the next dimension, so there should be a 3D model of a 4D hypercube to demonstrate it, i.e. not just a 2D picture. If Lisa's universe allows 3D models of course

DagdamorIn fact, I added the hypercube in the final drawing (in the draft, there isn't any hypercube) and because I'm not very good for drawing things directly in Adobe Flash, I prefered to add it as a poster (I made a grabpic of an hypercube picture which I got from Internet and I pasted it on the background). That's why there is only a 2D representation of the hypercube (but I must admit that it would be more logical with a 3D hypercube). And I'm still trying to understand the exercise on the board, even if my exam is finished

beatiful expression of Lisa...she look very impressed in this picture... me like a lot... ^-^'' the colors are cold and soft...wonderful "first try" Loic...... maybe you can draw the lines with a vectorial program, your optic tablet and a vectorial programs are a good combination... a freeware alternative is inkscape (avaible in ubuntu and windows) ... if you need help about "how use" this program only send me a PM and with pleasure I can help you posting a tutorial) goodnight and thanks by your art ... please keep drawing n_n

Lisa M. SimpsonThank you. GustavoI know about Inkscape but I have never used this software (the only vectorial software which I used is Adobe Flash). I think I will stay on Photoshop for the moment because I want to learn how to use the tablet's pressure sensor. But someday, I will make the migration from Photoshop to Gimp, and from Flash to Inkscape... By the way, thanks for your comment!

Black_raven & GrazThank you! For my next picture, I'll try to make something a little bit more complicated (a drawing with a background for instance ), so I guess it will take me some times.

LoicWhoa She looks unusual and funny, like after long and hopeless search for related soul she suddenly found Gustavo. But hey, it was made with tablet, it's good! You even added some shading. The only imperfection I see is that lines are too shaky and rough. But that always happen with tablets in the beginning. Keep practicing!

LoicSorry for missing your last picture, even if it's an old one. It's always interesting to see how your friends would look in the Simpsons Universe. You could easily be one of the characters living in Springfield with such appearance, say, a stock broker or an electronic library technician. Two little nitpicks if you forgive me: the beard is located too low, I'd move it a bit higher, and there is no straight line coming from the lower lip and to the stomach, that "line" seems to be broken somewhere below the neck. But those are small nitpicks, it's a well-made drawing. That "tuft" on the top of the head has reminded me of Phillip Fry

Just a little update...Here are two very simple drawings which are in fact tries to draw new characters (don't worry, there is also a Lisa's picture ). DifferencesMy first Leela's drawing. There is also Lisa in this picture but I'm not very happy with the result Ch?teau d'AmpuisThis picture is my first Bart's drawing with my graphics tablet, but it's also a reference to an old episode. So Bart, if you can read this, I'm sorry for what happened to you when you came in France in this 'Ch?teau Maison' : I have found a nice castle if only you want to come again. It's not far of my house and I can promise you something: there is no anti-freeze in the wine they are producing in this vineyard (actually, it's a very good wine ).

LoicHey, both drawings are very good! Especially the one with Bart, I like it a lot for the background, and Bart has turned out very well too, I see no noticeable mistakes. Good job Loic Another one, with Leela: I'm sure you see that there is something wrong with their faces; I think the problem with Lisa's is that her neck is too thick (there is a simple rule that neck's thickness = arm thickness * 1.5), also Lisa's hair should occupy much bigger space on her head. On some drawings, Lisa's hair are as big as the rest of her body! So don't be afraid to give it some extra volume. It's still a very good (and funny) drawing, I like the idea and Leela looks on-model. In the old Crossover Comic, Leela had to wear black glasses to hide her eye from Lisa IIRC so such a reaction is not a surprise. Constantly dealing with aliens, mutants and such, Leela could be a bit more tolerant to people with yellow skin, though. Please draw more!

Loic Seems like your Lisa and Leela on the Differences pic have a small deviation from the usual proportions. But it's not a problem I suppose. Nice plot though and... I like your style of drawing of the dialogue bubbles. But the main thing of interst is the second pic with Bart. (Ch?teau d'Ampuis) It has almost surrealistic image of the castle. And Bart's amazement is explainable, since there's a very nice view reveals to him. Thanks for your drawings. And we need more art!

hmmm... good job .... Ch?teau d'Ampuis, is a original idea and creative, the position and the acttitude of the character have a good interaction with the background of this pic... this is a good election as a wallpaper, simple and elegant , too... the colors are correct and the combiation of styles between bart and the scene is a excellent contrast ... n_n (with your permission I use your image as my new wallpaper in the laptop of my job) ^^ ...thanks by your creativity... Differences is a good idea, and the perspective is correct too, and the proportions are subjective and depends of the style of the artist... this is a sweet pic, me like a lot ^^.. a small suggestion, in the moment of draw any head of a character maybe a good idea think in "3d" (no with hard complex rules of construction) just think in a sphere and his effects with the surface (the secret is the color... is not magic ), and the effect in the space... ^^.... Loic, Thanks a lot by share your art with us ... and please keep drawing PD: sorry by my bad english X)

DagdamorThanks for the advice about the neck! It's the point I dislike the most in this picture. Shadow NaitThank you Gustavo"with your permission I use your image as my new wallpaper in the laptop of my job"Yes you can! (and it's an honor ) About thinking in 3D, I try but I'm not very good for the moment (in fact, even for drawing the sketch of a simple Lisa without 3D, it takes me more than two hours ). By the way, the background is a modified version of a picture which is not from me, but unfortunatly, I lost the name of the website it was taken from, so I can't tell you the name of the photographer. The original picture is included to this message if you want to see it.

This picture is a little bit old (I finished it in January) but it's maybe the most detailled drawing I've ever made. Nothing special to say about this drawing except that I wanted to draw something which shows how TV can be violent and how we slowly get use to this violence.

LoicA whole complex scene! Great work, your Lisa looks nice even from this difficult angle, and you did a good job with TV. If Marge was nearby, she'd probably look at Lisa with the same expression "Hmmm, in her age, I watched fashion programs..."

I also want notice a good using of grain effect - looks very nice =) Only imho you should pay attention to proportions, because the reporter guy looks like a classic "simsonic" big-head child.
-oh, and Lisa - stop sitting to close to TV! -It's plasma, Mom!

steven4554Thanks! Unfortunatly, I haven't played the game because the last console I bought is the Sega MegaDrive But I have seen some videos on youtube and this game seems to be very funny: I'll maybe try to play it on a PS2 emulator if I find some time. WiimeiserYou're welcome

Unfortunatly, I haven't played the game because the last console I bought is the Sega MegaDrive I used to have the Sega Megadrive though mine was the second version, i used to have all the sonic games mostly cause i was a big fan! As for the PS2 emulator, i found a site that might help you to play ps2 games here's the link http://www.pcsx2.net/downloads.php hope this helps you out!

The PS2 version is quite peft in comparison to the PS3. Get the PS3 or Xbox 360 versions.

I have the Wii version. Unfortunately, the only thing it has that the PS2 version doesn't is two minigames. But if the price of a PS3 is too steep the Wii version is an average alternative.

Two new pics here. The first one is just a training (I often draw all my characters in the same position and with the same expression so I tried to make something a little bit different this time): And the second is a crossover of a video-game (I hope that you will be able to recognize ).

LoicNice work on the second one - Sur le fil. It perfectly passes the feeling of the height with it's high buildings, roofs and cranes. A truly urban sight you've got here. And agreed about H&R, there was a downtown level too. About the character - I can say that the body has a good proportions. And the first one with Lisa. It's good positioned and looks all in all not bad. But there's some lacks. For example, the thumb on her right (or left to us) hand must be more projecting from the hand, right now her palm pronounced not enough. And the whole fingers must be bigger. And maybe the right foot that is flexed looks a bit thin. Apart from that lacks all looks almost perfectly. Yeah, I like her last naughty lock which have a little difference from the others.

Al.NonymousThanks! LeifI'm quite sure that Lisa can enjoy karate since this sport is based on self-control and respect of others. But anyway, I was just training myself to draw characters in more complex positions than those I drew all the time. Thanks for your comment!

Very Nice, Loic! I see that you used my colours for her dress and hat, and to be honest i'm a bit ashamed as i cannot draw at all, having to rely on grabs for my pics all the time! Well Done.

LoicNice pic, fella. I'm happy to see the finished version. But the only my complaint is...her eyes. I mean the direction of her glance. Because on your sketch she looks straight on us, while on the finished one - somehere aside. That's my the only 'complaint'. Her hat's fine, I hope she like to wear it Despite of that in the show she usually dress it only on holidays.

Shadow NaitThanks for your comment. About the problem with eyes, that's simply because I was not able to make this picture 'work' after putting color on it: one eye is hidden behind the hat and it makes the pic look weird. I'll watch how they do on the show, but for this pic I simply cheated by changing the direction where she's looking at. steven4554"Very Nice, Loic!"Thank you. "i cannot draw at all"If I remember correctly, you posted a quite good 'non-grabpic' picture on LTS on day. Much better than my first try (which has never been posted anywhere BTW ). GustavoI tried to make a draft of Lisa with an umbrella. It's far from being finished, but you can find it in attachment.

LoicAgreed with Steven, nice and peaceable scene, that's a bright picture. But I'd did her eyes a bit less in size, for better. Btw, you've chosen quite difficult view so maybe because there's some 'roughnesses' in proportions presents. Anyway, I like that scene and her umbrella.

Disclaimer: there is no reference to Lisa in the following post I saw the movie Avatar one month ago and even if the scenario is a little bit .... 'Pocahontas like', I really like the work done on the Universe where the movie take place: I found the Na'vi quite expressive for digital creatures and I liked the design of Pandora's fauna. Another interesting thing is the Na'vi language (which can be learned here: http://www.learnnavi.org/ )This pic is just one of my first attempt to draw a Na'vi female with Photoshop. Kiyevame!

okay not lisas... but the pic is cute too n__n, as always the eyes are the best part of a image, and in this example they looks very expressives, the effects of brightness in the skin are well done ... er.. I just have a question... what say the text in the image? " Oel ngáti kámeie LTS!" please answer my question ... the curiosity is killing me

Gustavo 'Oel ngati kameie LTS!' is litteraly translated by 'I see you LTS!'. In Na'vi language, it means something like: Hello LTS.

LoicNice try, I like it. It really cool when people brings here their art, concerned not only to Lisa. Well, to say strictly it should be a second or even third "Avatar"-dedicated picture within my recollection on this forum. What happens on the other forums/image boards I can only imagine.

For a quick pic, i'm impressed. Love the anger she has on her face (must be something Bart has done to annoy her), and the ski's are well drawn, i like it.

steven4554Thank you! GustavoWell, in fact she was not supposed to look that angry, just a little bit afraid (by the slope difficulty maybe). But she actually looks angry because I'm not yet very good for drawing facial expressions

Did you draw it all by yourself? Anyway good work, the steric view is great, but her neck is a bit too "strong"...

Lisa M. Simpson I draw it by myself but the design of the character is taken from 'Little Big Mom' episode.
