Do you have any interest, do you feel any inclination to the subject? Under "animal world" I don't mean pets which most of us have. I feel great sympathy to birds, they are graceful, they have abilities we'll never have, they are one of those rare animals that can sing, and sing nicely. If I'll ever decide to get a second education course, it will be ornithology. What about you?

What's this? A topic that lets me babble about peculiar wildlife? Hooray! I'm not much of a bird nerd (though I've learnt a few things from my mum), but I'm currently into weird things of the sea, like these nudibranchs. No knowledge involved; I'm just staring and going 'Ooh'. If anyone else has links to creatures from nature's grab bag, I'd love to see. I feel great sympathy to birds, they are graceful, they have abilities we'll never have, they are one of those rare animals that can sing, and sing nicely. If you haven't already seen it, the Lyre Bird. So realistic it's scary.

Interest in animals? Well, the animal I like the most is... A Kwyjibo Naa, I'm just kidding, I like chipmunks! Don't ask me why, I just do. I think they are cute and cool... And in way the movie Alvin & The Chipmunks triggered my "love" for chipmunks. I don't wanna sound "girlysh" or anything but they are sooooo cute cool!

Wow Beb, that Lyre Bird video was astounding Can't believe a bird can do that kind of stuff, and i even thought Parrots were out of this world You never stop learning. As for chimpmunks, they *are* cute. When i'll have my own home, i plan to get a couple of little animals, maybe rodents, to keep me company.

Keep nudibranchs! You would have to live right on the coast, though, and not so much 'keep' them as 'look at them a whole bunch'... But they're cute! Honestly!

I want to get a cat, but my parents won't let me. They only let me get a dog. -.-' Well, I'm gonna get a cat anyway and I'm gonna put it in my grandma's home I already have someone who will give me a cat. About chipmunks... Come on, which ones do you think are the cutest? These ones (Atention: These ones are from the Alvin & The Chipmunks movie): Or this one: A VOTE FOR THE FOUR CHIPMUNKS!

El_BartoI vote for... Go Chip n' Dale! ^-^ What's wrong with a dog anyway? ;( Dogs are good friends, and if you're a good pack leader you've got yourself some minions. Cats on the other hand are just mooching slackers. Go cat bashing! ;p

KasperThere's nothing wrong with dogs, I mean, I want a dog too, but I also want a cat. And I just know that in my house, a dog and a cat won't do. I already have 5 birds I think. I shall put the cat in my grandma's house, and I'll keep the dog in my house I think I'm going to get a German Shepherd ^.^

Hah! That was my favorite show in my childhood. We don't have much chipmunks here, but have squirrels instead. Several of them are often visitors at our summer house, hope to see them when it gets warmer (it's still winter here, or very close to that).

Cats are the best! "Dogs drool, cats rule!" said it. I donīt have any sympathy for dogs. But I do like wolfes, they are still "natural" and they are respecting humans (they are more or less afraid of them). ...well, letz present my favorite animals of īem all: Cat - Of cause... they are intelligent, cute and lazy. All that whatīs resembles me... *lol* No, I am just citten!!! XD Raven - They are mysterious and I like them best of all the flying creatures. Wulf - As I said, they are very graceful natural animals. It is a pity they are in danger of extinction. Mechapede - Okay, this is a joke, but made up alien mechanical creatures are cool. The pet of the Scrin.

Cats pros: Cute (some breeds are elegant), natural born killers, easy to care for (feed, pet, change kitty litter unless it's an outdoor cat), some of them are cuddly, kind of funny to observe sometimes. Cats cons: Egoistic, shows little to no respect for its superiors, only shows affection for humans/other cats/animals when it wants you to pet/feed it, sharpening their claws on furniture/carpets, jumping around places they shouldn't be, always put on an indignant look when you stop them from doing something wrong, doesn't stop them from repeating it, they only learn that the next time they do something they shouldn't and someone sees it - run away and hide somewhere.
Dogs pros: Group-oriented (pack), universalistic, submitting to their superiors (superiors means a mentally strong leader, not a physically superior one), cute (some breeds are majestic), respectful and loyal friends, protects its comrades, learns to follow the rules you set out for it (if you know how to), playful and loving. Dogs cons: Takes alot of time to care for a happy dog (feed, pet, go out for walk, exercise (both mentally and physically), takes a calm, assertive mentality to control, otherwise your dog will take the leader role and control you.
Common con: When they lose hair in preparation for the hot summer... hair everywhere! :@
Licking places is a pro for both, it's how they clean themselves, and they both do it... everywhere! Except dogs clean their faces differently, and not as carefully as cats. Dogs lick humans often to show their appreciation, cats may in some cases lick humans if they feel that the human is filthy. Otherwise they'll look annoyed and possibly walk away. Smelling places goes for both, except cats aren't always that interested in doing it. Cats laziness doesn't really count as a pro or con, it's just how they work. Lots of sleep and leisure time.
Neither is "better", dogs are just in my opinion better friends, while cats are just... indifferent aristocrats.

Really interisting posting, kasper. But I donīt want a dog or cat to be my friend. It is my pet. Humans are my friends. Animals can never replace humans. And in that way, dogs are not better than cats. Of cause they can learn tricks and stuff, but cats are cats... my cat DO cuddle with me when I want it... not just when she wants to... okay, she wants to every time I come close to her. ^-^

I'm a huge animal lover, but I have a partiular fondness for horses and apes/monkeys/gorillas. I don't know what it is, they just amaze me and make me laugh. Horses are such large creatures, yet they're so gentle and graceful in the way they move and communicate with eachother, and they're extremely intelligent and expressive for such a large animal too, and they seem to all have their own personalities too. Gorillas are just so beautiful and it amazes me how much they copy people and act so like humans. The faces are so expressive and I think I just adore monkeys because they're so cheeky and love to lark about and be silly. I'm new here by the way

You should come to my college, what amazes me is how many humans here copy and act like Gorillas! I forgot about this thread really and didnt make a full comment on it, thanks for bringing it back up again. I'm not a horse fan, guess I've seen too many or something, but monkeys and Gorillas etc are just awesome. I admit I love watching Monkey World on National Geographic, I wanna go there one day In response to Kasper, I taught my cat a trick! Kinda... Everytime he walks through my living room, somebody (be it me, or one of my brothers) grabs hims and cuddles him whether he likes it or not. So now if he ever walks through the living room, he sprints like its a dash for his life, trying to avoid being picked up! Teaching him basic survival skills XD And ofcourse, welcome aboard SummerJazz

CasperHaha, yeah, they're quite the little survivors. Keep coming back for more danger though... damn daredevils. I don't allow any animals inside my room because they just drop too much hair and I gotta run the vacuum cleaner once a day. x_x If for any short period I leave the door to my room open they'll rush right in and hide somewhere... when I come back to the room I always check around for cats. As soon as I spot them they'll get a "busted!" look on their faces and make a break for the door, they all know I don't want them in here. The first thing they'll do is go sit somewhere and start licking themselves as to state their indifference to the fact that I kicked their asses. ;d Respectless cowards. ;(

I'm definitely a cat person. I don't think I'd make a very good dog owner because they're somewhat high maintenance animals... you have to walk them constantly, so they can exercise and remove wastes, whereas cats are, for the most part, content with roaming freely and have a litter box.
Of course my cat Sam requires a bit more care - he constantly begs for food and wants to be let out - but it's nowhere near the way a dog behaves. Plus I'm not a big fan of the slobber-factor included with dogs... I'm something of a clean-freak, and I don't like my hands smelling like dog spittle all the time.

Well, after four and more months of waiting, i guess is finally safe to say my kitty has abandoned our home... we took him off the street when he could barely walk, he was quite beaten up ad had the top of the head and ears burned. He lived with us for 8 years and as time went along he started to become less and less homely, to the point where he would come by just once every two or three days for food and some cuddles. It's not the first time he was missing for weeks, but never this long. He was a weird cat... even after 7 years of living together, moving too fast near him would have had him all scared and inflated and backed up in the nearest corner, despite i always tried my best to be affectionate to him and cuddle him. So he's missing by a whole lot now and i gave up my hopes of seeing him again, although at evenings i still keep my ears up for that familiar meowing (he had the cutest "meow" i have ever heard, it always sounded like a meow from a little kitten despite he was 8 years old and he was really big) at the kitchen window. I'm just happy to know that i have left him to choose the life he wanted. And maybe someday i'll see a little Pilu (or more ) scampering around the gardens of my town. I took this pic two years ago, it demonstrates how much he wanted to live outside you can see the impatience in his eyes for me to open that window.

aww... Your right though, he choose the path he wanted. You never know, I think its likely he would roam place to place being fed from other people, or that somebody else has found him and is taking care of him. I was gutted when we moved house, and our cat (Cocoa) didnt want to move. Rather, he would run away back to our original home. Kept having to go back for him but I'm left believing that the owners of our old house took him in. Which I prefered over the idea of him being homeless. Oh, sorry El Barto, got distracted from your post. Congrats! And yes, pleeease do show us some pictures!

SimpRealThat's tough... to live with a cat for eight years and to have it run away... that's about how long I've had Sam, it'd kill me if he somehow ran off... and strange, that picture reminds me of him when he's begging to be let out. Well, as long as you have good memories of him. I'm sure he's being taken care of somewhere else.

That's too bad indeed, Marco! Hopefully, he's experiencing some great adventures, maybe even at another family's place. Reading that he was a true "outdoor cat" (and a shy one as well) makes me hope that he doesn't really need the care of a family, but is skilled enough to manage his life on his own. @El_Barto: She's a cutie indeed! My only suggestion for a name would be "Snowball", but that's probably too obvious. It looks like there's a black cat here in the neighborhood of my new place, and she sat on my grandma's garden chair when I arrived here a few days ago - so hopefully I'll have a chance for petting her now and then.

SimpReal ;( Kind of a sad story... although I'm sure since the disappearance was gradual he's just found another life somewhere. Would've been kind worrying if he'd just disappeared all out of a sudden... I had a cat that stopped coming home, no one really understood why, she seemed quite settled. Later we found her with another male cat and a pack of lil' kittens... turns out she'd got a family. (= Perhaps the case is similar with your cat!
El_Barto They get these things when they're small and cute, then they flush them down the toilet... *cough* eh, wha.. That's a little cutie indeed. ^-^ Congratulations on getting your pet, do you keep it at your grandma's place or did your parents let you keep it at home? Looks young, how old is she? =)

Too many cats. You're making me miss the one I had when I was six. We named her Mogs. When she went into the tumble dryer she came out like a fluffball, she liked to try and bat the snooker balls on the TV around, watch the washing machine and climb the curtains to get to the railings and sit on the speakers in the upper corner of the living room. But my brother got allergic. I wanted to get rid of the brother instead.
