OK, not sure again if this is the right place, feel free to move this some place more relevant. You may have noticed I go off on a tangent and rant like a man possessed, so to save hardship, time, and above all hurting anyone, (of which I am morbidly afraid) I hereby open this area. I will post only here if I begin to go off on a tangent. Feel free to join in or put your points forward, or heck, rant yourselves. Do remember forum rules about certain elements and if there are any bad vibes on this forum, please voice them in here, concider this my mind and feel free to pack it with innane, obviouse and trivial ranting of all kinds, but try not to hurt anyone yeah, I only post this thread to stop the bad vibes migrating round THE forum of Lisa Simpson. I only hope that you will try to see peoples views for what they are, which is views, not arguments.

I do hope this area will prove as useful to you as it certainly will to me.

Tell me about it, I continually get thrown off forums for doing it, so on here (which I am loving) I decided to bottle it all in one thread ^^.

a good idea in myopinion, sometimes a rant in someone elses thread could be seen as insulting to some, least in here we know it's for a reason and not personally aimed at innocent people lol.

Letting of steam in a controlled area could be good Smile

I'm pretty much needing to release a lot of emotion here right NOW
though I'll try to keep it "normal" as I can...
I've just spent the last 20 minutes crying over something thats hurt me but it hasn't helped, my parents noticed, tried comforting me and asking whats wrong but because I couldn't tell them they got hurt and moved out making it even worse

All I seem to be able to do right now is f*** peoples lives up..so not surprisingly, I'm left alone...
I'm just sick of myself, doesn't matter what I do, I can't do anything RIGHT
and whenever I try to make things right they get worse or just last longer
I can apologies over and over,..and mean every single word I say but its never accepted by people
its pushed aside..
so I give up...

I'm not expecting sympathy OR advise, I just need to let this out and I guess this is the place to do so,..whenever I'm stressed out I have to talk,..right now I have no one so,..sorry,..this may end up becoming a thread FULL of my rants...

Thats not you... Thats them, the people you feel you have wronged I mean. You need to relax, and ask them how they feel about you, or you will end up like me, a continually tired, 20 year old virgin with no stregnth, stamina, or idea of who they are. Live a little maybe.

Sorry, I know you werent looking for advise, but take it from me. Attempt to impress no-one, live for yourself, a few exceptions, but I spend my entire life trying to help people, but have never once helped myself. I hope this helps, or alternatively, makes you feel more relaxed ^^

I personally think that this rant space is a good idea, Syke. Especially since I don't have anyone else to talk to offline because I'm not in public school, or around other people outside of the family. ( besides one of my friends who doesn't really offer me advice for my troubles Embarrassed)

GAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH!!!! I hate being ill. Especially on days when I don't have to work. Sad

I have 38 degrees celsius (100.4 degrees Fahrenheit) fever and I have to cough so much to the point where my throat gets sore and starts to hurt. Sad I hope I'll get better soon... Smile

Are there other members who are also ill?

Blargh, it's true. I've been sick for a few days now. It's so outrageous, I haven't been sick in many months, and when I finally come down with something, it's right at the start of my Christmas vacation. I can't even speak without sounding like someone on their death bed, my throat is so ripped apart and my nose full of God-knows-what! Evil

Aww, suusje and GH need come lisa cookies pronto. Andreas!  Lisa

Anyay, being ill at xmas sucks (I tried it last year). For the last week or so I've been the only non-ill person in my house though, so I've spent a lot of time making tea and lemsip. Thankfully a couple of them are starting to come round now though, so maybe I'll not end up spending xmas day doing the same.

@Syke - I've heard similar sentiments a lot this year for some reason, and know of at least two people who are planning to do work for the extra cash. Maybe it's the beginnings of a backlash against shops bringing out the xmas decorations around halloween.

Syke i too have absolutely no wish for xmas, the only thing i am looking forward to is the xmas dinner, but that too will be bittersweet. First christmas without my father, I dont know if I am going to cope tbh. I have no-one special to sharee it with either. So I may just crawl into bed for rest of day. Presents will be virtually non existant this year as my family have had to cut back a lot.

Still does not stop me from wishing others a happy xmas though. Smile

I agree with you Empethree, Christmas dinner rocks. Ill be honest I dislike the family atmos. Me and my brother are just sitting about playing computer games again. Meh, commercialism has decimated the magic of christmas. Were just gonna have to accept that santa movies are here for life, and coca cola is raking it in. Merry christmas one and all.

Since I've no clue where else to post this, I'm just going to go ahead and do so here, because this will no doubt turn into a rant of sorts.

As you may have noticed, or probably didn't, I haven't posted in about a week... and to be honest, I hardly noticed it either. Doesn't seem like that long that I'd been lurking. But lately I'm finding myself very frustrated and dissatisfied. The most frustrating part of all is that I can't put my finger on what exactly is causing me to feel this way. Something has been happening to me that's been very upsetting in a quiet sort of... "bleeding" way. Something that doesn't exactly hit you hard, but is... something that "works on you"... it erm, well, sort of has been eating away at my mind.

I have been all right as far as my interactions with people are going, but occasionally I sink into random "depression", and I guess that's the only word I can use here, but it's not the sitting-in-the-corner-crying kind of thing, so I don't think depression is the right word. Um, let's try an analogy here... it's like living the best day of your life, and then as the day wears on and the sun begins to sink in the west, you realize it's over. And you know that the rest of your days from that point on will be laced with sorrow. It's almost like that, but not quite, so just forget that I guess...

The point is here, I've been very frustrated and most of all, unable to articulate myself well on this forum. I begin typing, and find I can't think straight or my words don't come out right, become frustrated, and end up scratching whatever I've typed. I guess this sort of thing just continues until you realize that you haven't posted in a while... and then you can't figure out how to make your re-entry. I just chose this thread because I knew whatever I ended up posting would be a bunch of random gibberish without any topic in particular...

I've also been frustrated lately with the way the forum has been going. Upset is another word I can use, and so I will. I'm upset by the treatment of off-topic threads here. I know this is supposed to be a Lisa Simpson forum, and I respect that, but I don't think off-topic threads and/or stories and fanart are given enough quarter here. I read just today in a post that one member, I think it was Serge, would rather see more Simpsons stories and posts than off-topic ones, and is surprised by the amount of off-topic we have here.

Well, why the hell not? It annoys me to think that to be a member of this community, you're almost obliged to contribute something "simpsony" to the place. I mean, if you want to draw or write about something else, what difference does it make? I stay here on LTS not because of the Simpsons. In fact I wouldn't even consider them my favorite T.V. show anymore, I've been watching Monk a lot lately, and I'd definitely place that above the Simpsons if someone asked me which one I'd rather watch. But no, I stayed on LTS for the people.

I am just not interested at all in the Simpsons anymore. In fact... I think watching them almost religiously for a time during my Lisa-infatuation, and discussing them all the time, has made me almost sick of the show. And I just cannot feign interest in all of these Lisa dedicated or Simpsons dedicated threads we have,

I know I have no argument against those, it's a Simpsons-themed board after all. But I really feel like the black sheep here; the person who dwells on off-topic, which is not as good as Simpsons or Lisa related discussion. And I know you all will come rushing in with smiles and, and handshakes or something, and tell me that's not the case, but you really can't deny it; I've created a few off-topic threads, hardly any if not ANY of them make it past one page. It's... disconcerting.

You could argue that our biggest thread, Song Lyrics, is off-topic, but that's just one thread. All you have to do is look at the ratio of off-topic to Simpsons threads. And there's no real discussion either, just a bunch of people (actually, it's mostly me! Hah!) comparing lyrics, and 75% of them go unnoticed.

So, I'm just not sure where to turn now... some would say to keep posting here, and just talk about what I want to talk about, but then it would feel almost like I'm talking to myself, that no one cares what I have to say. Or I could force myself to discuss the Simpsons here, and treat it as a job, which I won't do. Or quit posting altogether, which I also won't do, that's no solution.

But is there any other? I can't figure out what I'm supposed to do here. Most members want more Simpsons threads, I want the opposite. Is this just not the place for me anymore?

Please, if you have taken the time to read this far down, take a little bit more time to tell me what you honestly think. I know I may seem a bit... eh... off-key, and I am right now, have been for about a week. I'm not right, none of this went the way it was supposed to, and it's carrying over to here. I guess I should've come out and said this a long time ago though, but maybe I needed something like this to happen to me to let all of this come spilling out.

So... there it is. Some of you must think I'm off my rocker about now.

Well you are off your rocker, but to be human mean that you must be period. Give me a buzz later on YIM and we can talk about this GH. But for those not in the chat, I have to somewhat agree with him. It is a simpsons based forum, but there is room for off-topic things that catch people's interests. I am not going to argue about this, because I understand that the Simpsons is a good show, but Like GH, I too have lost touch with it. I watch a few of the older eps and I saw the movie, but I really dont watch it or TV for that matter much anymore.

I think IMHO, that Dantheman40k Might have been portraying something that this forum would see more of in it's future when he said "Do you hate Simpsons or something?" (In reference to my opening of The Windrunner Chronicles story thread) Though everyone was so quick to shut him down before I could answer the question he had posed. But looking back on it, it seemed like he was a bit ahead of his time. Maybe not litterally, I know that no one says it anymore, but by not posting in a thread as such, it is just the same.

I have quite given up on people posting in stuff that I create, so the few things that I do create, I make mostly for myself. My story is one of those things. I will continue to post it, even if it means that I have one or two pages of posts that are just mine. That doesnt bother me, because it makes me feel that i have done something. But It can be a downer when no one replies to any off-topic threads more than once. We could have an invasive political discussion, (like my Should I or shouldn't I before it became "War and Peace") and it may get something sparked, but 99% of the time, it gets one, two pages max before it peters out.

On the flip side of that coin, We see simpsons based threads that have 5-8 pages on something like, Lisa's hair style, The Family Relationship between Marge and Lisa or Homer and Lisa. Forgive me, but In all honesty does anyone actually see that some of these discusions are a bit out there. Everyone tries to give life to characters on a screen that dont actually exist. But that is a moot point. I come here for the people and not the Simpsons.

Agree or disagree, it's all the same to me, but one has to remember what the real world has to offer, sometimes the fantasy just cant live up to the reality of thing. And I believe that the Fantasy that this placed has created is cool (never have I seen so many people come together to bring life to a show, or character) but some of those off-topic things can create a more amazing Reality that not many people are aware of, or for that matter, that they wish to become a part of.

GeorgeHarrison

Well, talking about about posting here in off-topic threads I can say the following. It's true that most people here not the native-english talking people. But, what's more estranging, of various age. Sinse this I bet you exactly know what I'm talking about. There's just a very various interests that different people have here. I remember Rizzy who's not around here anymore. I think that's the perfect example of the way if you want continue your hobbies and this very place is just not fits you.

But as you said most of active members come here for talking with someone who they know quite well and sympathizing of course. For me it's only two persons, the admin Dagdamor and nice young lady brakusaetsya, and it's quite obvious, I think Big Grin  Both of them I know from the russian forum. But! It's not the point that I definitely don't want to know anyone and to talk too. It's absolutely wrong. You, Suusje, Empethree, Andreas, Black Raven, Casper, the newbies Paolo, Jimmy, Sylenne, and all who I doesn't mentioned, you are... nice people. Smile

So it's not even the question why we are here. Definitely not only because of the Simpsons or even Lisa. It's like a habit, I suppose. And to talk about something. The main subject as you know is the forum's name. All talks about something what he knows better. And I'm very tranquil towards the subject that I doesn't know or understand much and that's my big shortcoming.

Summing up I want to say if you feel you want to be here you have to find the forces to overcome your apathy and depression and just to continue posting of what you like. And people will understand it. If not I think you must find another place, but again that needs forces...
(hell, that was a crappy speech! Big Grin )

Well, it's good to hear that at least people are able to understand my views on off-topic.

Last night was a bit rough for me, my mind was pretty askew, felt like my thoughts were thrown about helter-skelter, so I'm sorry if I seemed like I'd lost some of my marbles. I still feel the same way about the issues on LTS that I've mentioned, and am glad that I was able to get out there and say it.

Unfortunately I can't see there ever being "changes" made on this issue, one reason being that I wouldn't even know how to change the situation. On one hand we have people who are loyal supporters of the Simpsons and participate heavily in every discussion thread, people like Serge, Bra, or Ygg. And on the other hand, people who distance themselves almost entirely from Simpson-related things like myself, Rachel, or Laguna. It's impossible to satisfy everyone...

Well, I have no "methods" per se for solving this little dilemma, but I'll let the admins look this over and make what they will of it.

It could be interesting for you, George, to have a look on ISFF, Dag’s Russian forum. People, who are there for a couple of years, almost stopped writing about Simpsons, they’re chatting, joking, discussing offtopic and so on, and only fanart section stays alive. And it’s hard to begin an “insane” thread like Ygg, Serge or I like to start, because… Well, I don’t know exactly, why, but it’s true, I came on LTS because here I can see  almost insane, obsessed, devoted people and I wasn’t ashamed of writing something considering Simpsons as alive people, not just pixels of many colors. Reason why I rarely post in offtopic section – I am simply a boring person and I don’t know what to say, there are few things I know enough to talk about and I’m afraid to show, how silly I am Big Grin
When it comes to fanart pictures, I adore both simpsonic and non-simpsonic, because I can understand it, but as for writing things… I don’t know many shows, movies, events members had mentioned here. My bad, I have to reveal many miracles of this world. Please, don’t stop to write about things you’re interested in, step-by-step people will understand and join you, I suppose. "Offtopic members" are very interesting people, I wish I could be such person.

I am one of the people that thinks off topic is a valuable part of this community. I count most, if not all, of the members here and friends. And a lot of the time I want to share something good with my friends, be it simpsons or not.

I could post these things on another board, what are the chances of people beign members of the same boards as me, virtually none. No disrespect to Serge or Marco at all.

As long as things are kept in correct forums and they are not spam or offensive then there shold be provision for it. As long as a large proportion of the topics posted overall are related to Lisa and the simpsons. I think this place is more than just a Lisa forum, it is much more. we are in many cases a sort of "family" People move on to other things, and some people have decided to stay and be a part of it. And thats what makes this board special. Lisa and the sense of community therein.

I see a lot of people talk on MSN, Yahoo, AIM, ect. I find it kind of humbling to fid that the people who have moved on to new things still choose to engage in conversation, and just be good friends. I value this forum extremely hightly, I have been through hell, especially in the last few months, and this forum ands its members have kept me from doing something stupid. Remember if anyone does feel like a chat feel free to add me to MSN/Yahoo/AIM.

I will admit when i first saw this place it crossed my mind that it was a place for obsessive nutters, but I have come to realise this is a place for friendship, discussion and generally a good time!

I'm very tired and i can't analyze all your thread in depth GH. I'm very sorry you feel that kind of depression, because it's really destructive and it wears you out very fast, but i hope it's just a short period.

But about the off topic thing, i'm stumped. I fail to see what's the big problem there... it's true that Dag expressed the will to have less offtopic and Simpsons, so what? it's the opinion of an user, the fact he's (was) an admin doesn't make his words become law. The trend on LTS is the same as all the other boards... it's driven by its users. If people don't reply to off topic threads it means they are not interesting FOR NOW, or they were put down in a non-interesting way.
Maybe in a month everyone will be tired of Lisatalk and we'll have only offtopics going, who knows... and it will surely change many times, since LTS is still a relatively young forum.

You are trying to hard to find a reason to feel "out of place". You aren't. Smile And you are just like everyone of us too.
No one forbids you to go visit other forums if you like, where you might find more interesting subjects, but think also this... off topic threads are so to EVERY forum in the internet. I've been on at least 10 forums and in each of one ther'es at least a "what's your favourite movie" thread. After 5, i'm just tired of replying, aside from LTS where i try to make some effort.

So basically, why worry. Smile There are so many ways and places on the big internet, to find what you like, and you're free! You'll still be welcome here with any topic you might want to open or reply to... there are no obligations.

Incidentally, there's an old thread about opening an off-topic board, iirc... we can go talk about more on it there. Smile

I most certainly am not trying to feel out of place. Why on earth would I want that? It just doesn't make sense.

All I'm saying is that from time to time I get tired of discussing the Simpsons... I find it interesting to discuss off-topic things, with the members on this forum. There is hardly a more respectful and intelligent place on the internet than LTS, which is why I am a bit discouraged by the fact that off-topic threads are given little attention.

I guess I just feel like I'd rather know these people beyond what they think of Lisa's hairstyle.

Okay, but you can't force people to be interested in offtopic threads, given the subject of the board. That's what i want to say... about being tired from Simpsons discussion, it happens, and that's why LTS net suffers from random deaths of activity.

Maybe the fact the offtopic threads are given little attention is because pur interests and places and minds are way too different from each other? Or because other users have other places where they post about general OT stuff...  I don't know. But i can hardly find a solution here, if not opening an OT dedicated board.

I think opening a new board for off-topic posts would do little to curb people's interests. If a thread interests you, you'll reply to it, no matter what board it's on. You're probably right about people's interests being separate from each other, but then again we have had some interesting replies in threads about War vs. Peace, Religion, even a discussion we had about music half a year ago, although that was done entirely in the "Song Lyrics" topic.

There's plenty to discuss, it just seems like not enough people participate, or keep the thread going. It could be a lack of interest, but somehow I find that hard to believe. Maybe I misinterpreted this, but it seems like some of the members on this forum wouldn't pass up an opportunity to discuss something like that with other members.

And if these random drops in activity are because people are tired of discussing the Simpsons, well... I've often wondered how long you can discuss characters and places that don't exist. How long you can analyze the show for before it just becomes regurgitation? By the looks of some of our topics, not very long...

Believe or not, but this is the only way to keep this place alive for the long period. Our Lisa/Simpsons obsessions are what unites us here; without it it would be much harder to find a common language and interests. I'm not against offtopic threads, not at all! I understand pretty well that causing people to talk only about topics I like, would effectively push them away. Wink This is not what I want. All I want is to remember about our roots, about that subject that made us register on LTS.

BTW, I've heard this arguments towards myself before - i.e. "how can you still like the Simpsons and discuss it, the show is so old (boring, degraded etc), when you will grow up already?" Well, that's how I am. I still like the show very much and admire even some of the recent episodes. Sorry if it looks like I'm "dragging" other people towards the same. Like Marco said, I'm just one of the members here, not any better, not any worse than the others.

I heard a story of one "System Shock" forum. It was probably the best place for a true hardcore fan, maybe even as great as the LTS forum. Everybody there spoke to the point, everyone had something to say about their favourite game, and, due to rather strict moderation, there was no place for trolling, flames, flood and offtopics there.
But the problem was that there were only two games of the System Shock franchise, so finally, after a certain period of active discussion, there was nothing more to discuss. People discussed everything, wrote a big bunch of fanfics and discussed them, and finally, left the forum. And it died.
I don't want to be a wet blanket, but Lisa Simpson is a very particular subject to discuss. Restricting ourselves to discussing her and only her may very well lead us to the heat death or whatsitsname. I don't know about the rest of you guys, but I feel that I have already said almost everything I had to say about Lisa and, to be perfectly frank, the Simpsons in general.
(Fulbert suddenly listens to the audience)
What? Nobody thinks we should discuss Lisa only? Oh crud...;-)
I'd still suggest creating a separate forum for offtopic. I'd like to discuss the problem badger of breeding in the conditions of volcano eruption aftermath with people on this forum;-)

Well, that's going to depend on the type of eruption, are we talking extensive ash deposition or slow lava spread, or possibly pyroclastic flow?   You'd then have to select a suitable species/breed of badger according to the conditions, considering it's usual habitat and whether it could adapt to the post eruption scenario.   You'd certainly have to consider it's diet (I recommend whatbadgerseat.com) in relation to the available food sources in the area...

ahem...

Anyway, regarding off-topic, I think it's possible to have a balance between Lisa/Simpsons discussion and off-topic threads.   I don't recall seeing much in the way of serious opposition to off-topic threads, indeed the description on the "Lisa's Family" board includes the line "Don't be afraid to create offtopic threads if you want to discuss something" (and I'm pretty sure I recall making that point in the past).   As several people have pointed out in this thread and again, as has been raised in the past, OFF is getting to be something of a niche market when it comes to discussion and obviously discussing Lisa is a specialisation within it, so that's going to limit the scope of things unless there are off-topic threads as well.   That said, people still seem to find Lisa related things to talk about, even if they are getting into "out there" territory.   Personally I don't have any problem at all with this, yes it's over-analysing things but that's what you are going to get on a fan board and it does create some interesting and entertaining threads.
Marco makes a couple of very good points in relation to off-topic posts, firstly that differing interests are a factor.   I could talk at length about various things that interest me but the likelihood that anyone else on here would also be interested enough to keep the
