OK i used to help run a gaming guild for world of warcraft. As i have mostly given up on it at the moment I have a server running running a voice chat service.

As it constantly runs as part of the server i feel that it is a waste to leave it idle.

If anyone would be interested in using it for LTS chat between members lemme know I will alter it for this use. It can take up to 32 people simultaniously and can have sub channels for different subjects, languages ect.

It is a Teamspeak server, which client runs on Windows, Linux and MacOS X.

http://www.goteamspeak.com/?page=downloads (Windows & Linux)

http://www.savvy.nl/blog/ (Teamspeex - Mac OSX).

Doesnt matter if no-one wants to use it but if you do PM me and i will set iut up and post IP & Passwords.

It's funny how I had recently just uninstalled Teamspeak after testing out various methods of doing a talk show for something.

ALM

I have successfully used TS on a talkshow on my station and my server was used for a talk show on Canada's LG73.com Station. It worked relitively well having 8 people doing a live show from around the world, Canada, USA, England, Germany and Australia. There was a slight delay but it worked. Dempends very much on how evenyone links to server and what route they take, other times I have done it the lag has been too much.

SimpReal

I was extremely shy and it took me a while to use a vopice server, and i have phone phobia, but I have had some of the best conversations with people round the world on voice... so i suppose most peopleget used to it Smile

Even if mebbe we got a meeting together once and never again it may be interesting to hear the people behind the posters.

The people I have spoken to voice from my gaming clan have become solid friends, and when one from USA died last year it felt like someone who was sitting next to me. On the flipside, when good things happen it feels like I am part of it. I have a really great understanding of so many more people, countries and religeons as a result.

I use Skype for voice chat, but that's about it. I've used Ventrilo in past as well, but I'm not really one for those big server type things...

At least I'm not the only one with that sort of phobia. Tongue It's funny how posting online like this is so easy.

Empethree - Like I said, I had uninstalled it, it had nothing to do with this since you just posted, and it was a couple of weeks ago since it was do with what will end up being for a podcast I'll be participating in.

I'm not very good at online stuffs, like a large part of members here, I cant use the phone. Usualy because lack of practice, my brother answers it most of the time. I'm not complaining. Tongue Just means I'm terrible at speaking to people through telephones/microphones.

If I had another pair of headphones with a boom mic, I think I'd give it a try. At least once anyway. The worst that could happen is my family think I'm going insane talking to a computer. Smile

I'm willing to give it a try. It will probably be awkward at first, cause I never speak English, but I'm sure it'll be fun. Tongue

Embarrassed

Okay well,...I DO have a very old microphone somewhere but doubt it will work with my Vista 'cos it was from the 98, unless I miraculously find a driver for it online but I doubt it...
I COULD, buy a new one but not sure if I should for this seeing as I'm incredibly shy and awkward when it comes to speaking down phones or anything like it  Confused (and no it's got nothing to do with my weird Southern English accent, ... it's apparently a lot easier to understand than a Northern accent Wink according to some Canadian dude...)
So if I ever build up the courage to and get a headphone set or whatever at some random point, I'll see what I can do....however it's pretty unlikely I will be able to...
Embarrassed Sorry...

This is a good idea, I'd like to hear voices of LTS members, especially if voice chatting doesn't consume too much traffic. Smile But about me... I'm not shy I think, but I doubt anyone will understand me there. I never learned speaking English, I can type it, but not speak, and my pronunciation is awful. So if you can cope with some strong Russian accent...

OK the server has been modified for use by LTS (all the world of warcraft specific channels gone Wink )

The server runs 24/7 as long as my router lives, luckily that seems to have now stabilised itself again. You may join anytime you feel like it I have created a couple of discussion areas in addition to my own use channels (for my station).

I have attached the IP address details as an image for security, don't want bots to harvest it lol.

You may invite guests but please request the password is not given out without permission Wink

1. You will need to download one of the teamspeak clients

2. Enter the details into the client and your username. First connect as anonymous. If an admin is present he/she will allow registration which is availiable from the TS menu.

You can either register an account or not, but registering gives you less restricted access.

In connection menu, click connect then on the [-]Server in the list right click and "add connection" Enter a name for the server (this can be anything you want to identify it)

Now enter the details as follows:

http://www.ejnmedia.co.uk/simpsons/voice4ltssetup.png

Registering on server means you can use your own username and password to log in to the server, also you *may* be given enhanced capabilities by admin.

Me, the main Server admin would be identified by one of my usernames, either "Fragsey", MPfreeUK or Empethree

Remember you dont even have to talk, some people use it in association with chat channels, so join the LTS chat too and you can still participete!

You can count me in.  My job being about talking and talking, so I would not have trouble chatting with you all at all.  It would be pleasant, I'd bet.

Well server tested out fine tonight, Leon and me had a "little" chat. There is some minor lag on the server at the moment due to a serious fault on my connection which has now been fixed, but the line needs to stabilise. Otherwise it seemed to work well. Lisa even dropped in and gave a few comments too...... even sang the badger song!

I will try and be there often, (Subject to work) but as i stated before feel free to pop in anytime and use it.

Ok after a lot of fiddling and expletives ... ahem, my line seems to have stabilsed enouhg (tho nowhere near what it once was) and I am managing to maintain the connection much better now. I just wish Brtish Telecom would get of thier posterior and actually fix it instead of saying "Your voice service works fine the line is not suitable for broadband and wou will need to pay for a new line if you want to use it." History goes back to bad instability 2 years ago and they were on verge of blacklisting the line. Only then did i find that a neighbours line went faulty and when they repaired his, mine stabilised too.

Anyway The voice server should hopefully work properly again and anyone is free to use it whenever they feel. I will try and get back in there again for a chat but work coming up to xmas is piling up and most days i come home and dose off lol.

With christmas and holidays coming up, i bet it's hard to do any kind of planning... If i don't join the server though it's mostly due to being shy. sorry. Smile

I would like to participate (at least to try to, because I'm more than sure that you won't understand my english Wink), but I'm still not sure how to use the whole thing. Yes, yes, I have to download that program and install it first... and yeah, I second Marco about last days being overflowed with different stuff. How about delaying the meeting until January 2008? Not too much time's left Smile And one more question from me. How much traffic this voice chat will consume?

the voice chat consumes hardly anything, idle the server polls the net and uses a couple of kb. depending on the quality each user will use up to 12kbps only when speaking. the server uses some intelligent data transfer to distribute this to each user. I have successfuly had about 12 people on my connection with about 6/10th of my upload bandwith (800kbps) to spare. As it is unlikely everyone will speak at once it is often much less than this used.

Im sure if something good is arranged it will be a good "get to know you" excersise, maybe in the meantime we can organise a regular get together in the chat room.
