Despite my age, I still love that show. Grew up with it, and even now I like to watch those episodes from time to time. They are short, they are funny, they are usually harmless. What's your opinion about "Tom And Jerry"? One person once asked me, "how you can blame Lisa for enjoying Itchy and Scratchy, while enjoying Tom and Jerry yourself?" I answered that those are two different shows (although they seem to be very similar, I agree here), and the second one is much more deep and funny than the first one, at least to my tastes. And I&S has never won an Oscar.

I haven't seen them in ages, but I used to watch the show as a kid. Very funny indeed, and they didn't cause any violent traits in my character at all.

Yeah, that's a true thread! I remember how I watched it with my brother almost like it did Bart and Lisa. We were out of laugh especially with Tom's comical screams (poor cat, he has so much suffered from the restless mouse!). The latest seasons with more modern animation (we had a VHS-cassettes) I definitely don't like, it looks just... vulgar in comparison with the elder masterpieces. But the elder ones are great, especially the middle-aged ones. My favourite phrase from that time "Touche, monsieur Pussycat!"

DagdamorHeheh, Tom and Jerry is MUCH less violent than Itchy and Scratchy Even if poor Tom is tormented ceaselessly by Jerry, there's no blood. I do remember watching this show as a small child with my grandpa Good memories, it's a classic. One of those things that the years cannot dim, and will never be able to be redone.

I still love tom and Jerry and when it comes up on TV i can't but stop doing what i was doing and watch. Well, it's one of those things that sticks woth you a whole life: a classic of my childhood, something that brings up good memories or just a general nice feeling. I wish we hadn't lost the touch with this kind of simple entertainment...

Tom & Jerry was enjoyable and very nice animated. I hated Itchy and Scratch for a while, because I loved T&J and I&S were too violent. I loved to watch it when I was young and I donīt think it had any influence on me... *caugh* ... mmh, need something to hammer, hammer, hammer... XD I wish we hadn't lost the touch with this kind of simple entertainment...
Beg you pardon? I think TV was getting too much simple and stupid in the last years and it still remains on a low level.

Heh, I'm glad to see some support here If you don't mind, I'll post here several short clips I've made from certain T&J episodes. Here they are, hopefully will be more: The Mouse Comes To Dinner - one of the oldest episodes. The "ouch" moment makes me LOL every time I see it; Two Little Indians - I always like when they use different things as musical instruments; The Flying Cat - Nothing special, but still very funny. You'll understand why I liked it; Love That Pup (not sure about the episode name) - Just watch it, it's awesome.

I used to love Tom and Jerry Watched a lot of cartoons as a kid (still sometimes do ^_^;) However when comparing cartoons to Itchy and Scratchy, My first thought now is of Happy Little Tree Friends Just search it up on you tube for those who haven't seen it yet, not for the faint hearted, but for those with twisted/dark humor I feel it's probably a lot worse than Itchy and Scratchy whereas Tom and Jerry isn't as bad, so...guess Itchy and scratchy is somewhere in the middle

DagdamorI like those moments There was also a moment, when after a violent Jerry's prank Tom goes to heaven on the cloud, playing the harp, with little wingies behind him and a halo, that was so cute, but I saw it so much time ago and can't remember episode's title. In general, I like this cartoon too. It was first cartoon made not in USSR I saw, IIRC. When I was just a kid I liked Jerry so much, but I thought he is female mouse And the most I like episodes with classical music, when every movement of cat and mouse matches the music somehow and they combine in weird symbiosis of violence and beauty. Those are, for example "In the Hollywood Bowl" and "The Cat Concerto". Black_ravenHowever when comparing cartoons to Itchy and Scratchy, My first thought now is of Happy Little Tree Friends Yep, I completely agree with you here Also, I remember some eps of "Lenore, cute dead little girl", which have the same amount of blood, but nevertheless, they're very different. But HLTF indeed is muuuch closer to I&S then classical "Tom and Jerry".

sadly for those of us in the uk, i'd advise getting hold of a copy of the original cartoons while you can. they're due to be (or may already have been) edited so as to remove any instance of a character smoking (though the trivialised violence is apparently still okay) which is liable to render unusuable many classic scenes (think Texas Tom). Also, I remember some eps of "Lenore, cute dead little girl", which have the same amount of blood, but nevertheless, they're very different. Lenore was a tv series too? I've only got the comics! *googles*

the old classic episodes are the best, find that with quite a lot of cartoons, the ideas are fresh, as are the deawing styles.
I used to watch Tom & Jerry religeously as a kid..... ahh i miss those days.

D.B.Lenore was a tv series too? I've only got the comics! *googles* Not tv series - only very short flash cartoons like this - http://youtube.com/watch?v=AAA6nQ-GEe0Of course Lenore has different, much deeper dark humour usually, but some episodes, like that with hamsters definitely makes me think about violent cartoons about animals, like "I&S".

And yet another fragment, from the "Saturday Evening Puss" episode. It's not really funny, but if you can, please download it and tell me what's the music is playing there, at least which genre is it, because I don't remember hearing anything similar in my life. And I can't say this style is bad... in fact, I feel I like it. So if it's a known composition, I'd like to know which one. EDIT: Oops, forgot the link - www.simps.ru/files/miscells/party.avi

EmpethreeThanks for the help, although I couldn't find anything related to that music in the first page you linked, and the second link doesn't work for me. Maybe anyone will download that moment and recognize the music? I can't believe nobody knows anything about it. I suspect it's some kind of old jazz...
