Well, this would probably fit in the humor thread. About the video though, it's funny, though I don't think it's all true. Sinkhole of support is great though... From personal experience, the biggest problem with Vista is that you need to know your way around a PC and how to find a workaround for every problem. I can do that, but it's time consuming to get everything up and running, and the casual user probably won't ever get everything running at 100%. I got Vista with my new PC, in the end I gave up on it and rolled back to Windows XP, because of the following: It was really slow sometimes, I have no idea whether this was some driver issue or not, but games worked at normal speeds, so I figured it was Vista's fault... Second off, the drivers for Creative's X-Fi series are completely messed up, I can't use it together with the entertainment center or any of the features that comes with the card and the sound quality is kinda messed up. Also, in order to get hardware accelerated sound in alot of games I had to use a program called ALchemy which just plain didn't work the way it was supposed to. Top it off with the fact that I'd always run into problems with any of me audio/music related programs, I just simply gave up on it... it had alot of other issues, yeah, but once everything was properly configured it wasn't that bad. If Creative would get off their ass and do something then maybe I'd consider using it, but here we are! End rant

Wow..that was incredibly random and sarcastic Despite owning a Vista and not having too much trouble with it (Though theres times its frustrating but I get that with ANY computer..) I found that quite funny , some bits weren't true though..not for me anyway.. Maybe I'm just not fussy but I've had this computer since April after my 98 died, and it has only crashed once as far as I can remember...O_o I also find it pretty fast...though others who have used it have told me it's slow... I can only guess its cos the XP we have is so messed up (I blame the stuff that comes along with my brothers games), the XP is just painfully slow now...and has been for a long time Anyway, I'm rambling...overall I don't mind Vista, even though I swore I'd never get one, kinda didn't have much of a choice, and so far it works for my needs. There's only one thing that annoys me on end, and thats the pop ups asking for permission for EVERY thing x_x (The vid was definitely right about that ) *Ahem*, Well...nice vid

Black_raven The permission pop up is the UAC protection, if you wish to disable it go to the control panel, go to the user account section and there should be a button there somewhere to turn it on and off. Good for nothing to be honest and really annoying yeh, dunno why they couldn't put a button to disable it in the security center.

This video is great *digging up graves again* I know why I'm a Mac user. PS: Linux is also a good alternative.

I must say, with proper hardware Vista is not so bad. i'm using the ultimate 64bit since a while and i'm quite surprised. It was just annoying at first because i wanted to treat it like XP, but Vista is different.. the more you let it do its stuff, the better it goes. Of course Xp pro 32 is still the best performer in games and benchmarks.

Then it will probably get very stubborn and perform misserably. One of the reasons I'm really not wanting to buy a new computer any time soon. That, and the looming ressesion.
Probably just buy more modern parts for the XP's that I have.

It takes 5 minutes to disable services and uninstall unneeded programs. Whati was implying is that, if with XP services as indexing, performance monitor and analysis etc were just a strain on the system's operativity, in Vista they*do* make a good job in keeping the performances stable in time, not degrading.
It's ture that vista takes more memory than PX, a lot, but it's not because of the services loaded... it's because it uses a different phiosophy in memory management. While XP took what it needed when it needed, Vista "overdoes it" and makes a premptive memory allocation based on the analysis of PC uses, files most used, hardware and peripheals.
I can honestly says it works quite nice, after a coupel days of install my PC stabylized to performance that were even better than my super-trimmed, super fine-tuned version of XP Pro. and after a couple month of utilization with the most different stuff, the performances and system responsiveness did not decrease a bit, while with XP i would already be needing defragmentation, cleaning and trimming of garbage.
Now that SP3 for XP is out though, i might go back to XP, since the service pack took the memory management from Vista and used it on XP.. .actually taking the good stuff of vista on xp and making it better.

I'll admit (again) that when I bought my new laptop (the one I'm on now ) I was intending to downgrade to XP using my disc that I had to buy to repair my old laptop (which my two year old nephew has since destroyed). But I gave Vista a chance, mostly because I wasn't sure if there were XP compatible drivers. But Vista has grown on me. It may use a lot of CPU but still, I like it, its mostly the graphical touches that do it for me. I got too used to the collapsing into the taskbar when using Aero.

Vista executed things at pretty much the same speeds as in XP... except it slowed down horribly when trying to do multitasking. And maybe some games were still a bit slowed down, but it made progress there. Visuals are good, but unless they've made some radical changes the past half year it's still a mess getting everything together smoothly enough to make it worth the visuals. And I'm lucky enough to have no real hardware issues since all my hardware is Vista certified, though audio reproduction for the X-Fi cards is still way off... way to go with those drivers Creative. x_X Macs are great, but they don't have all the software compatibility that I want. Superior workstations I guess, but even there it fails me at one point or another. ;( Linux may be a bit more advanced, driver support isn't always there, and I'm pretty sure not all software is fully compatible with it. For the advanced user (and as servers) it may be the optimal OS. Yay for Windows XP. May be inferior in some regards, but for the casual gamer/musician/photographer/student/moron like me it's the perfect middleground. ^-^

A Mac with parallels running Mac OS X and Windows XP side by side is the perfect thing for me. And later you can even have a great experience without the so named windows version.

I run parallels desktop too on my imac... it is great! http://www.ejnmedia.co.uk/files/desktopimac208.pngGreat to able to run XP and MacOSX side byu side drag thingsd between Mac and PC applications ect. I have set my XP to boot from the book camp installation (can boot XP on its own without OS X). I assigned 512Mb if system memory to XP. It runs far better than my other PC Running Dual Core + 1Gb ram. http://www.ejnmedia.co.uk/files/imacxp2.png

MaléfixEmpethreeQuiet! I'd go Mac if they weren't so damned expensive. x_x $1400 spent on a Mac gets you the same hardware as $1000 spent on a PC. ;(

But that hardware works far better!!!!!! The hardware is all tested to work with each other, unlike PCs which are bolted together from a bit box of thousands of different parts.
My other imac (G5) has been switched on next to this PC since I bought it streaming and running certain tasks. This PC is also left on (running XP) and needs rebooting every month or so to keep it working properly. The iMac has never crashed as yet or been rebooted.
Can get some good deals on macs.... but ulike PCs they tent to hold thier value on second hand market better than PCs. I have 4 macs now.... iMac G5, iMac Intel Core Duo, iBook G3 700 and an old Powerbook G3 (333Mhz) which i got 2nd hand. That power book used to hold the task of the iMac G5 and again it was switched on for couple of years. The hard drive started clunking and yet it remained switched on and streaming audio for another 6 months before i replaced it with the iMac. Usually a PC would just Blue screen on even the most minor hdd error. The Powerbook still actually boots into OSX and OS9 just a bit slower, and sometimes now locks. But if i put a new HDD in im sure it would work perfect again.
Not saying I am a total Mac fanboy, they do have thier own issues at times and I would not get rid of my PCs anytime soon, I run both for different things

Mac? Pfffffffffft! I cant stand Macs. I used one when I was in college, and I didn't like using it, so you rarely saw me using the Mac room. Granted that was four years ago. But me thinks I shall stick with Windows.

Oh I hate Boot Camp. Windows stole the first boot right from Leopard (why are you still using Tiger?!) And when I tried to change that right my Mac crashed (!) Parallels is way better. And even faster I think.

Never had any issue with boot camp, as long as partitions are correctly assigned Startup disk manages it well. Not put Leopard on yet as that machine was boxed up and i only got it back out again after 6 months last month, had no use for it at the time and not got round to doing it yet. The other iMac is still running tiger because the radio station software I use does not work correctly on Leopard and due to fact it runs 24/7 gotta find time to down the machine, transfer all the software and music library and get the other imac (or ibook) to take over while I do..... i am lazy lol Dont know if you have visited this site yet... www.macosg.com..... some really good stuff on there... its the Mac Owners Support Group, good reviews and help too!
