Does anyone know how to do them? You see, a long time a go I wanted to do one but nobody responded to a topic question.
I still don't exactly know what they are. Are they like, two people draw on the same piece? I sound stupid, I really should know by now. X(

I think that's what happens, yes. 2 artists come together to draw a piece.

Well... I don't know how that can be possible, aside from drawing stuff simultaneously using programs like OpenCanvas. Maybe that's what you meant. Smile Or maybe it's a job split between several people, one draws a sketch, another one redraws outlines, third adds colors, fourth adds shading and background etc. Although most of the times all work is done by one person.

I personally loved the idea of art trades you gave us, more. It's wonderful when someone draws something for you, and doesn't demand for a good quality in response. Smile

I thought it's like when several number of people decide to make a picture, and every person from them will add (draw) his own part to that picture.

(Does anyone understand me? =) )

Perhaps; in this case, we already are doing that. Check up the Collective art thread. Smile
There is another version... one task for several people, and each one tries to draw it his own way.
Although that more looks like a competition rather than a collaboration...
P.S. Yes, we understand. Your English is fine ;-)

A collaboration would be two or more people working together to produce a picture - so yes, that's what's happening in the collective art thread.   In OC (the earlier versions I think), it's possible for people to link up and work on the pic in real time.   I don't know exactly how it's done but I know there are a few people on here who have done it.   With Photoshop I'm sure it would be possible for the artists to work on their parts individually and then bring them together.

You can always invent something new - say, one person draws a character, another one draws clothes for it, etc.
Though, if you want to try something new and unexplored in the fan art world, I'd suggest animation... it's a hard thing, I understand, but we have so little of it right now. I'd give much for seeing a winged Lisa, flapping her wings and maybe losing a feather or two, drawn by a fan. This is one of my dreams. Smile

Why not? Suusje has made it once Smile Yes, the animation was rather simple (Lisa herself wasn't moving there), but still, it was a step forward, and I don't understand what prevents us from doing another one. Casper once made a cute Lisa animation too, although I don't remember it being ever posted here.

Its about time I got back into posting here. After an accident involcing emergency services, it has been difficult thinking of possitive things to add to this community. I guess theres no better way to start than the begining of something new...

My animation was very basic. I never read animation guides before I started, or went to any classes or looked for any outside help at all. Using ideas inspired by our skateboarding videos (3 seconds and 7 seconds into the video), slow motion was possible using still pictures, played at a short interval appart, since we had no video editing program other than ImageMixer and Windows Movie Maker.

I did four animations in total, which I've uploaded onto YouTube (before I used FreeWebs on my old sites, but since have been removed).
First animation attempt was 'Maggies Eyes'. Basicly saving a picture of maggies eyes open, then half closed, then fully closed, I managed to create her blinking. I also just experimented with the size of her pupils, to a funny result.

Second animation attempt was called 'Assasination'. This was a plot idea I had for a story, Bart and Maggie being hired to assasinate the mayor, in order for Lisa to take his place. At present, I dont like the idea, but it sounded good all those years ago. Simply done by still pictures from my 'Assasination' picture, slightly edited with my old colouring program 'PictureIt! 9' (which I've lost =( ).

Third animation was an experiment, using a blur tool found on the colouring program. Called 'Magic!', the first picture (drawing of myself) was blured until it was faded away, each still picture taken at intervals of the bluring process. This was repeated with the picture of Lisa* (originaly drawn by CapAdde), but it was reversed when put into the final movie. As you can see, it doesnt work that good at all.

The final experiment is what Dagdamor has seen before, called 'Lisa Walking'. The idea was supposed to be Lisa walking alone in a hot desolated desert, but now I wished I choose a more happy setting for my last animation. Done by drawing Lisa in the first pose, scanning, then rubbing out her legs and adding a new leg possition. It didnt work as well as I had planned, but I was proud for my fourth ever try.

There was an attempt at animating a fith video but I only half finished it. It was going to be a video of Maggie's head spinning around but, because the lack of drawing skill, the test video was far too jumpy and sketchy. So instead of making it an animation, I turned it into a signiture picture I used at GFWC:

(anybody is free to use this themselves)

And thats it. Hope I didnt bore you and, hope it points out some good do's and (probably more) do not's with some basic animation. Smile

*Lisa was originaly drawn and coloured by Capadde himself. I liked/like the picture so much I decided to colour the sketch myself, with slightly different results. Later, this colouring became 'victim' of my animation idea due to similar size proportions.

The simplest animation I pulled off was a simple blink, which is used in all eight of the TCB headers.

These three are really for back up purposes, and not intended to be an actual animation. I export each frame and then use the BMP's I create to turn them into an animated GIF. The latter two are the same thing, except the first has the upper eyelid close slightly which I thought looked weird so I took it out.

They all contain four frames, rather than six so the eyes close, then the next frame is the fully open frame again. Tongue

Ugh... sorry to know that, I hope you feel better now...
* Dagdamor suspects another skateboarding trick to be the reason

Casper, do you still have your videos in the original format (AVI/WMV/MOV/whatever)? I would like to re-upload them to my server, if you're not against. I'll preserve your authorship of course. Just want to have them around in the better format rather than YouTube links Smile

ALM
The first one is nice - although she's blinking too rapid Wink a little pause between the cycles wouldn't hurt. And sorry for nitpicking, but other two don't look right. Groening's CTTS book explains pretty well how the Simpsons characters blink; you won't find that kind of half-blinking there. The second one looks better than the third, but it still looks somehow wrong. Maybe they always should open their eyes back before closing them. Tongue

I know how to make the characters blink. I have both The Simpsons Handbook and Cartooning with the Simpsons, I've been there, seen it and done it.

But like I said:

Maybe I should try and draw animation myself before going nitpicky at others... but I have enough problems even with sketching. Oh well, one day I will definitely try.

Since they're for backup purposes, there doesn't need to be more than 4 frames. Tongue You can download them and import them into flash and view each frame individually if you want.

BTW, Omar has posted his Cloudsurfing picture as a part of a Simpsons Calendar.
This also can be considered a collaboration.

I think Simpsons Calendar is a great idea, although it'll be hard to some people like me to draw normal vector-art. And all that additional work with digits... *sighs*
Probably, every artist just should pick his month and draw a simpsons pic matching that month, when different person will add other calendar features?

September picture is already drawn (link), so take October.

Then we probably need some picture's requirements. Size, format, plot (I mean, it could be any picture, or matching somehow the month) - some unification will  be good Smile

« Reply #26 on: September 26, 2007, 03:34 »

Ok, I've been very busy - doing school stuff, working, and commision stuff, but I just love this place and I like the idea about orginizing a colab calendar.

Mainly, the basics of the calendar should be to make it wide, wide like if as making a widescreen wallpaper, just like the one I did.  Its a fact that not everyone has the same talent as others, but the idea is not that but to participate.  I can do the one for october, in fact I kind of have an idea of what to have in the pic, simpsonic this time not crossovers.

Fulbert, you could do the one for November and we can go from there.  We have lots of artists here, and I'm sure they will like the idea  Also, I will try to convince some friends of mine from the antropomorphic side to see if they have something even if it is a crossover.  This year is almost over, how long is there left, a few months?   These months could be used to practice and get the deal going month after month for next year.

Can I count on you, guys?  I want to read a YESSSSSSSSSSSSS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!    Wink

I'm going to be sending Pm's to members, please respond as fast as you can.

Oh, that was just a vague idea, nothing more.
Come on, you know I'm not the person who's able to complete it, drawing a single rough sketch per several months. :/ Right now I have two art trades open and don't have enough time (and power) to finish them. But I'll try, at least with one of them. If someone else decides to give life to that idea, I'm for it. Smile I just doubt I'll do it myself.
