A world without string...?! Is CHAOS!!

« on: March 26, 2007, 20:41 »

Been a while since I updated this place with some art, so... a sketch I did at collage.
I since lost the pen I drew it with, so I'm completely depressed.  Sad

Anyone else have a special attachment to certain art equiptment? I can only draw with certain pens or pencils. Black biro's are definatly the best for me.

Anyways, this picture was inspired by the song 'Shadow Of Our Pale Companion', by Agalloch. *see signiture*
Curtesy of Marco for showing me the band in the first place. If you havent listened to them, do so now.  Gigi

"And as I'm stalked, by the shadow of death's hand...
My heathen pride is scarred (is scarred), across the land..."

EDIT: Constructive or destructive critisizm, much abliged. Big Grin

I know what you mean about the whole attachment to art equipment thing, my special black Japanese pen has run out of ink! Sad

Anyway, I've told you allready but I'll tell you again,

it's creepy!  Eek but that's what makes this picture so interesting Big Grin

I'm impressed with how you've used the biro to create the shadow of the hand effect though, it's ..well...effective Big Grin

Nice work Mat, keep sketching! Gigi

is a very special work friend Smile, it has much inspiration…. I do not have doubts… in addition the scene is very dynamic, the lines and the position of the protagonist have been obtained of very good way… Smile

my unique “but” is the hand Confused… does not adjust in the style of the picture…. (" is very real ") Eek… although it can have a meaning… nevertheless it is a wonderful work Smile… of another dimension  :eek:and very intriguing  Wink.....

keep drawing Smile

Shadow of deaths hand
The pic looks interesting and have its very mood. It's quite interesting and of course keeps some pent-up emotions which not at once are appreciable. To your technics of drawing - i have one little criticism Smile Lisa's (is it really she imagined here?) eyes should not have the completed arches above and under the eyelids. Then the picture is good, but slightly unintelligible for me. Continue your work and further!

This is what Agalloch does to people.

This is an impressive piece of art... unusual, even a bit scary. The hand (her hand, not the big one) just catches attention and doesn't let it go then Eek Her expression is also kinda redoubtable, if not frightening. I don't know what would I do if I see Lisa (or Maggie) approaching with that hand stretching towards me...

I won't forget this pic I guess. So if you wanted to impress the viewer, your mission is accomplished Big Grin

Technically, your picture is very good. You chose the complex perspective, and the character looks great. My only complaint is her legs: they aren't long enough comparing to her torso and overall height. Remember that people have quite long legs - almost half of their height usually (or even more if you want to draw a sexy character Tongue). She looks like she's losing her pants Embarrassed But that's a small thing, it doesn't spoil the mood of the picture. Really, it scared me "in a good way" - not because it's bad, but because it's very impressive.

Keep it up! Smile

It's amazing what you can do with a humble Biro!   It's a very atmospheric pic, I especially like the effect of the moon appearing through the gaps in the clouds and the "hand of death" is very sinister.   Yes there are problems but as you say, change your mind using pen and you're screwed.   Although you say black Biros are best for you, would you consider working in pencil and then inking it?   If you can produce something like this straight to paper, with the opportunity of refining things that you get using pencil I'm sure you could do amazing things.

... did someone say Agalloch??
* SimpReal bows and praises until his throat gets dry  Unsure

All my criticism about some proportions issues, and the difficult way you tried to portrait her are useless. Being an agalloch fan myself, i know perfectly what you've tried to render here, and i must say, you succeeded in your goal. This is , alone, the most important thing. Even the medium at your disposal was something simple... no spiffy china pens, no expensive supertablets. Yet... it works so well.

Although i must agree with Dagdamor in what the two legs of the pants seem to "divide" too low.

It's menacing and moody and it tells not a story, but it tells a feeling. I love it!  Smile

Com'on 1asphost, dont die on me now...

Some pictures which I managed to scrape out. Feels like I'm on the end of this Simpsons art rope, just had no motivation, inspiration, admiration, or other words that end in 'tion. Instead, I've been drawing other things like... Homeless people. Obviously.

However, that Lisa devil has been turning against her environmentalist routes by burning tree's. That rebel!
Lisa's Bad Dream
Its unfinished and will remain unfinished unless I get the Go-Go juice to finish it. Sorry!
Oh yeah, speaking of unfinished pictures, I dont think I posted this one here, so here is;
Unfinished.

Also, two examples of other art I've been working on for no reason other than boredom.
Mindf*ck.

These are some well done pictures Smile They've got an eerie feel to them... something that I can't quite put my finger on. It's a sense of "Yes, this is a good picture, yet something sinister is lurking behind it and giving me an uneasy feeling..." Almost like listening to The Wall.

First is really scary... And it's not surprising to see THAT band name in it's title Tongue Must agree with George about uneasy feeling.

But "Unfinished" is quite opposite, calm, warm picture, I hope one day you'll get your Go-Go juice Smile

I'm probably the only one who didn't find these pictures scary...
IMHO, some of them are well drawn, and show good imagination. Anyway:

Untitled
A typical scene by Agalloch, nothing weird Wink most of their music are like that. Lisa looks a little odd because of her overbite and eye. But aside from that, her proportions are close to perfect, and expression is nice. The rest of the picture is only adding to the mood... let's call it Lisa's Bad Dream (no offense intended). Very emotional drawing.

Unfinished
I really like this one! Marge and Lisa both look great, nice poses, and I like that they are both smiling. Dunno why Bart is so shocked - Maggie just seems to sleep on his arms Smile Both Bart and Maggie have a little "grownup" proportions (tall bodies, little heads comparing to the rest), but they still look adorable. Great scene, I wonder where's Homer...

Mindf*ck
Tsk tsk, such a title Wink Nice shading. His (your?) eyes and mouth look a bit disturbing, but believable anyway.

Bum
This picture looks noticeably flat... mainly because of his face (too wide), and clothes almost without darkness and light separating shading. But nice work with his boots! And sorry if I'm criticizing too much here, your pictures show talent, you just have to try and make them more 3D - not only with shading, but with proportions and positions too.

Again, I think there is some really good art here, keep up drawing. Smile

"Lisa's Bad Dream" sounds like a reasonable title, I've edited the post already! Tongue
Yes yes, Mindf*ck is a disgrace of a title. Its a disgrace of a picture too... basicly a picture of me angry in maths. Started off as some anime ish attempt then just turned into what is is now.
Unfinished... grrrr... I'll try to finish it. Homer will be somewhere in the background confused about something or, something.
Bum, damn! Was suppsed to be a 3D exercise Tongue But thanks for the critisizm. I'll rememeber for future drawings! Smile

Well actually the perspective isn't bad at all, I think it's just the shading, as Serge said that flattens it.   It's also worth working on using shading rather than lines to define the nose, lips, eyes etc. if you're going for a realistic look.
I really liked "unfinished", it's a sweet scene and Lisa's Bad Dream is nicely atmospheric and original.

mmmm Go-Go juice....try some apple juice Wink
*ahem*, anyway, now it's my turn to comment Tongue

Lisa's Bad Dream Lisa + Fire = GOOD! Big Grin Well, in my mind it just does, so guess I'm bias but the picture, although incomplete, looks qutie impressive to me, so I really hope you complete it one day.  The composition is very original.

Unfinished A fav of one of your slightly older pieces of work, again, although unfinished, it is still a great sketch Smile Bart seems to look quite confused as to what to do with a sleeping Maggie in his arms Gigi It's very cute.

Mind F*ck I don't think I'll ever understand this  Confused It's a good pic, and it's always nice to see something different, however, I like most people find something quite "sinister" behind it. I don't think I've ever seen you look so angry  Eek I think it's possibly the eyes though you said you were attempting something "anime-ish" I can see where you were getting at.  The only real nitpick I have really is your hand seems a bit..."simpson like"  Confused or it might just be me.  I don't exactly find drawing hands easy but I find the palm is more oval shaped rather than circle....kinda hard to explain but all I can advise is, to look at your own hands whilst drawing so you get the idea Gigi

Bum My first thought was, "random" when seeing this,..just never expected you to draw something like it I suppose.  It's a good try though it still seems to look flat but don't let this put you off at all. I think it's just the clothes, could do with more tone shading, to make the folds and creases look more in depth.  I'm not exactly brilliant advice at this since I kinda feel, like I suggested in mind f*ck, that looking/studying what you see in front of you, or around you, and putting that to practise really helps. I remember a few years back having to study folded material over and over, till I got kinda sick with it, but it was great practise as it's helped me a lot for the work I've been doing for art in school recently. Don't feel you have to do this though, but if you're bored, or have time, just draw what you see around you, and try to loook and observe in depth, or close up to objects, don't have to finish either. Just a tip  Lisa

Anyway, I'll stop rambling now Tongue

Overall, it's nice to see more art from you Mat, so, keep it coming  Gigi

Had quite a nice chunk of life on the personal side of this guy 'Casper' lately. So no more depressing un-egotistical feather mouthed tat. Thank god for that.

I managed to draw a simple sketch in a lesson today. Its probably too simple to be worth posting but I'm probably better off starting small, so I can practice ze colours again. Heres the sketch for now. Once coloured, will post it here.

She wants to make this moment standing in front of sun longs forever and asking him to stop there, I suppose? Smile
She is looking a bit too tall here. But maybe she would look so from such view - she stands higher than spectator eyes.
At first I thought she is in trousers under her dress Eek , but this belt... So, I think this spikey border is on her jacket, nice detail.

The Sun and her pose are very good! Little sunny with a big one Smile Not bad at all, keep it up!

Maybe she's casting the "Fireball" spell. Wink
LISA: Whoa, it appeared to be bigger than expected...

Jokes aside, it's a nice sketch, I like it! I wrote "Lisa" above, not "Maggie", but she could be Maggie as well, because she has a central top-most spikey. Casper, you did a good job picturing Lisa, drawing characters from unusual angles (and full back is one of them) isn't easy, but you did it well. Now color! Smile

Unusual and interesting!   Is it the sun, a fireball or an approaching meteor?   I like the fact that you've incorporated Lisa's dress spikes into her clothes, and as Serge said, it's a tricky angle but it works well.   I can't figure out if her legs are a little short or if it's just due to what she's wearing.   Her hair spikes could also use some adjustment to even things up on the right hand side (bottom two, particularly where they meet her neck).   I'm just imagining that sun/meteor in colour - should be pretty awesome!

Oh my, what an interestign picture.

My idea is a bit more apocalyptic... comes to mind that she's telling a comet to stop just moments before it hits the Earth. And who knows, she is Lisa.. so if there's one last thign to do, this is it! Smile As i said the picture is interesting, one of the cases where the idea/plot wins above the technical goodies. But even in that aspect, the pic's well done, the hair pikes look good as the added layer of dress on Lisa.

Good Work, i like this very much Smile

Thanks very much guys... I must say:
Hmmm... I suppose Lisa has given up her aspirations of controlling the birds, and instead tried to control the sun? Wink
... thats such a good idea! Big Grin hehe! XD

It is actualy intended to be the sun, but it seems like a lot of my pictures theres (un-intentional) double meanings. Its a stab at global warming, Lisa trying to make the world stop polluting before theres hell to pay.

I love the idea of it being a comet though, her telling it to stop before impact. Smile

... I also love Serge's fireball explination!  Gigi

I must be a lazy artist... I draw lines then you guys have to make up the plot. Tongue
Anyway, hopefully will be coloured before next week. Thanks again!

Hi again, talking about your art...
Lisa's Bad Dream Very unusual and dreamy indeed, to see the flaming tree among the waters - it must be so unbelievable, I can understand Lisa here looking in awe with her protruding eyes at this scary scene. Maybe if I can listen to Agalloch someday I'd comprehence itmuch better, since this kind of art (influenced by musics or something like that) demands you to be at least familiar with artist' possession. And it remind's me mysterious of my own picture I never finished that contains Lisa and other simblings that standing knee-deep in the water...
Unfinished That is very nice too, since it contains more than one character it takes much more efforts from an artist. That quite unusual family scene (mostly because of Bart Smile ) and all the characters so calmly and charming. I like this pic!
Mind F*ck a difficult one, I understand. Sometimes all things going to dement you and that's a perfect example of creation something in that mood. The Bum has not caused in me any emotions, sorry. To see a man who's felt so low is not a perfect sight I want to see, but the efforts of artist must be  appreciated and I can say that it was a nice try.
And the last pic at present day by you - Stop the plot is so unusual as energze, the sun seems just to burn Lisa o_o, so it great. That really nice idea at Lisa with that role of stopper of practically impossible thing (like the sunrise) so suits her usual temper! And the alternative outfit becomes her in very good way.
Hope to see more someday.
