I beg to dream and differ from the hollow lies...

« on: October 28, 2006, 02:04 »

I'm not that good of an artist, but I have a few pics here i would like to show.

Here's one of the characters I made up, Robby Simpson.
Link to the picture

Here's an old one. The entire Simpsons family, in the future. Left to right: Flora [From my summer of 4 ft. 3 script], Bart, Ameilia [Bart's daughter], Allison Taylor [Well, now she's Allison Simpson], Homer [at top], Robby [in center], Zachary [in front. Bart's son.], Marge, Maggie, Lisa.
Link to the picture

The day Maggie found a comb laying around...
Link to the picture

A movie poster made for a chapter of a script-in-progress, "Once upon a time in springfield" [A parody of the movies "El mariachi", "Desperado", and "Once upon a time in mexico".] I still can't draw a gun. Big Grin And, I intentionally had him hold the gun like that.
Link to the picture

My very first winged Lisa pic ever. I have no idea why Bart thought it was a good idea to hold on.  Big Grin
Link to the picture

The first in a series of illustrations from "Lisa Fitzgerald". Each one has a verse from Bob Dylan's song, "Shelter From the Storm". This first one, I'm going to redraw it. It turned out awful.
Link to the picture

The second pic [remember, these may or may not be actual scenes, just something that fits with the story.
Link to the picture

Third pic. This one was drawn around 1 AM, [I had a bad case of insomnia], so this one is waaaaaaayy out of perspective.
Link to the picture

The fourth picture.
Link to the picture

The fifth picture. i am adding more pics to this story, i'm about halfway done with the series of illustrations.
Link to the picture

Okay, one day, I was playing megaman battle network game, and watching Simpsons at the same time. The results were just plain weird Big Grin :

ProtoLisa! [With this one, there were problems with the scanner, and the image was cut off.]

Homercloud!

Numbermarge!

ToadAllison!
Link to the picture

After the toadallison pic, I wanted to draw some more of her. This one was inspired by Kathryn Bunny of MT2.

I made her head too big in this one.

Sometimes, it's just funny to watch a sibling rivalry take place. Smile

First of all, sorry for replacing all images with links to them. They aren't bad or something, I'm just trying to save people's (and mine) traffic, since all pictures were displaying right in the thread. I'm doing that without your consent, so if you're against that, contact me and I'll return everything back.

Okay, the pictures now... Smile
Again, they aren't bad, but your style is not perfect. I liked some of them a lot (of course my favorite is Lisa lifting Bart up Wink) but you have to practice more. The main problem I see is proportions thing. The best way to improve here is doing some grabpics from the show - and judging on my experience, this helps greatly in understanding characters proportions. On the other hand, you have good imagination, and the plots on certain pics are very interesting.

All in all, your art looks decent (though some of the pictures are a bit angsty), you just need more practice. And some of the pictures look really nice. Smile So keep it up!

No, I have nothing against you moving the pics to links. In fact, thank you! They were loading a bit slow. Yes, of all my drawing problems, proportions are one of the top ones. Like in the 5th LF illustration, Embarrassed . Thank you for reviewing my pictures.

I laughed out loud at Homercloud!!  Gigi Homer

Actually, all of these pics show a good intent and some have even a nice backstory to them (like sibling rivalry, the family in the fuure...). I would lie if i say that you don't need to improve, though... if you want, i can give you some suggestions. If instead if you're happy with them, i'm sure that with practice you'll keep refining your style, so keep up at it!  Lisa

Just one little thing: I know it's boring, but... keep always a ruler handy Smile And take some time, before the actual drawing, to make a lot of circles freehandedly, to "train" your hand/brain to follow curves. Again, it's boring, but i'm sure it would help greatly! Thanks for the piccies, amateur Smile

Sorry for the DP, but here's some new art.

More megaman-simpson characters: SearchFlora! [She looks so cute with her gigantic rifle, doesn't she?] This is my first pic with creases in the clothing!

http://s84.photobucket.com/albums/k2/lisalover1/?action=view&current=Scan10036.jpg&refPage=&imgAnch=imgAnch3

TomohawkBart! [Most of you were suspecting Megabart, right? Oh, well.]

http://s84.photobucket.com/albums/k2/lisalover1/?action=view&current=Scan10038.jpg&refPage=&imgAnch=imgAnch1

Another LF illustartion. For this one, I know the windows and other things are crooked; I couldn't find something to use as a ruler to make a straight line. Anyway, enjoy!

Nice pictures once again Smile my favorite is the third one (LF illustration) - although I cannot recognize this moment in the story, but Lisa looks quite happy on it. I still see problems with character proportions, and can only suggest once again to try making grabs. But it's up to you. Wink

Hi, Chris!
Your drawings is amazing! They strikes me foremost by those feelings which they express. The pictures which pleased most to me are those one that contains scenes from LF and lines of verses from song.
I think that for a beginner your drawings looks not bad, seriously. And first of all due to emotions which they pass. I am impressed by a picture, where Lisa lies on a hospital bunk. It looks incredibly sadly :-( That's a great one! It contain only pure emotions. I was looking at that picture few minutes and understanding that I must write a review about your pictures.
In general you well choose the scenes. Two from them is so frighteningly real. And when Lisa crawls upon the floor she is so small and pitifully...And the scene she getting the punches simply scares me.
Well, go on, continue your work because thanking to you I again remembered the unbelievable fic by Jenny Howe.

It might not be a real scene, but it's if Lisa went back to the hospital after a few years and remembers how she was saved from a life of tourture. Lisa

Two from them is so frighteningly real
No sense making them fake, right? Big Grin

Once again, sorry for the dp, but I like to use 1 thread for all of my art.

Here's some more LF illustrations, about 3 or so of these to go.
This HAS to be the absolute worst drawing of a baritone saxophone I have ever drawn. The basic structure is okay, but the size is WAY off. When I stopped to remember that what Lisa plays is a bari, not an alto, it was too late to change it.

http://i84.photobucket.com/albums/k2/lisalover1/Scan10039.jpg

Another illustration, this was my first full-scale attempt at creases and wrinkles in clothing, which turned out horribly.

http://i84.photobucket.com/albums/k2/lisalover1/Scan10040.jpg

My second winged Lisa pic. I think I got the feathers okay for this one, not great, many of them look almost juxtaposed, which can get boring, but It's cute to see Lisa bursting through a cloud, IMO.

Well, I don't have much to say about the latest set of piccies, only that they are still nice, though are almost on the same level as your previous ones. Wink Lisa's head is drawn very good on the last picture (love the subject, too) - probably your best one so far. Can't say that her wings look as believable, sorry. But the idea is nice indeed. Smile Keep practicing, nothing to add.

The wing trails does give her a sence of speed. Looks like a super hero! Big Grin

The last picture has been your best, technicaly. If you keep fine tuning your style, you'll get there for sure Smile
The second picture is okie. The creases didnt turn out too badly, but then you have to realise that creases in clothes happen where there is a bend in the material. Doesnt always have to be at the edge. Still, not too bad for a first try.
First picture was a lil scary. To be honest you could have improved it so much more if you'd have spent 2 minutes rubbing out and redrawing the flat mouth. :/

Anyways, still some improvement. But I must emphasis the fact that all artists make mistakes. I use my eraser more times than I type the letter 'e'. And thats a lot. But its little corrections that will make your work improve. Ask any artist Wink

Keep it up!

Okay, I lied. I have some new drawings right now. 9, to be exact.

First off, the last 2 pictures in my LF illustrations [I only have 2 more, because 1 verse of the song was pretty much impossible to draw a picture for.]

http://i84.photobucket.com/albums/k2/lisalover1/LisaFitzgerald11.jpg

The next one, Lisa's refection is way off-model, I know that.

http://i84.photobucket.com/albums/k2/lisalover1/LisaFitgerald12.jpg

I just watched THOH 12 again, and got a few ideas for Lisa drawings...

Here's Lisa, attaching a new horseshoe. There's something wrong about that leg, though.

http://i84.photobucket.com/albums/k2/lisalover1/LisaCentaur1.jpg

Here's an older version of Centaur-Lisa. She's supposed to be taller, but every time I drew her back, it looked like she had scolliosis. Big Grin And about halfway through this drawing, I realized that she wasn't wearing any clothes by the time this happened in the epsiode, so I'd have to draw a bra on her or something.

http://i84.photobucket.com/albums/k2/lisalover1/LisaCentaur3.jpg

Okay, I went officially insane with this idea. I went too far. This is Lisa, asleep in a stable.

http://i84.photobucket.com/albums/k2/lisalover1/LisaCentaur2.jpg

Okay, enough with those. I have 2 Maggie pics, one is Maggie as Roll from the Megaman Battle network games., this is also my first attempt at drawing a fist!

http://i84.photobucket.com/albums/k2/lisalover1/MaggieRoll.jpg

The next one is a situation most artists have been through.
 Wink

http://i84.photobucket.com/albums/k2/lisalover1/Maggiedrawing.jpg

The next one was inspired by Pat, with all his draiwngs he calls "Simpsons Fuzzies". Nobody to my knowlege has ever tried drawing Lisa as a mouse.

http://i84.photobucket.com/albums/k2/lisalover1/LisaMouse.jpg

I was pretty reluctant to show this one; It's an EXTREMELY crappy draiwng, but I liked the concept, at least somewhat. It's Lisa at a young age, seeing her pearl necklace for the first time. And, if you're wondering why this pic is sideways, I'm about as confused as you. Confused This is actually just a practice drawing.

http://i84.photobucket.com/albums/k2/lisalover1/LisaNecklace.jpg

I like the idea's that you used for your pics, but I can't help but get the feeling that you spend too little time drawing your pics. Maybe you should try coloring your pics some time, because you can fix a lot of small things while tracing your pic, like wobbly lines and minors character proportion errors. If you want I can make a tracing and coloring guide, so you can try it out.

By the way, your last pic with Lisa and her necklace isn't that bad. It's pretty good actually Wink

Okay, it's my turn now... Twisted

First of all, most of your recent pics show very interesting ideas; for example that picture with centaur Lisa fixing her own horseshoe... it could be a great, adorable picture if executed correctly! Even without artist skills, you could make it way better if you spend at least 5 more minutes with it. Yes, it's not easy to draw a horse or a pony, but you can use that episode as a reference. I hope you can understand me... spend more time with each picture, and they will turn out much better than now. Quality, not quantity. Smile And don't tell me about hands - I have as shaky hands as you do (you should have seen some of my sketches - they are extremely messy), but that's only the extra reason to dedicate more time to your drawings.

I won't comment each of the pictures this time... only say that 1) I liked some of the ideas you tried to picture there, liked a lot; and 2) it would be nice if you tried to follow at least one of the advises given here. Tongue Because they could help you with your art greatly; and from my side, I can only ask you once again to do some grabpics. I wish Omar was here; his advises helped me (I believe they did); maybe they were boring and solely technical, but they worked.

I admit, I only spend about 5 minutes on my pics, 7 maybe. That's a big problem.

without artist skills
Yes, I am aware that I have no artistic ability, but at least I've tried, yes? Smile

but you can use that episode as a reference
I DID use a framegrab as a refrence.

Yeah, I'm going to try to spend at least half an hour next time, so I can get it just right.

Announcement about my drawings: I have recieved several private messages from people who are protesting my art [Not nessesarily from here], saying that it is uncreative, sloppy, and horrible. They said they will send hundreds of viruses to my computer if I don't stop. The comments in this thread were kind, but from some people, they were threatening. So, from now on, I won't draw any more simpsons pictures. It's for my own good. Marco or Serge, may I request a lock on this thread?

Wow. I thought people with that level of stupidity had died out by now, but apparently they still exist. You have absolutely nothing to fear from such stupid people. It's funny to see some people think they can send virusses to another computer. You shouldn't stop drawing, because some some *ss is telling you it's bad. As you may have noticed in this thread, most people like your art. So why would you stop if some people say something else?

If your still afraid of getting virusses and you don't already have an anti-virus program, you should download AVG here: http://free.grisoft.com/doc/avg-anti-virus-free/lng/us/tpl/v5 It's a free anti-virus program that will protect your PC from getting infected with virusses. Lisa

I think locking the thread is not the right thing to do at this moment. I will give you a little time to think about it and if you insist, i will do as you ask. But read the following first, please Smile

First of all: As Suusje said, people who threaten to "fill your computer with viruses" are the first ones to be ignorant about computers and how viruses work. That is an empty, and kind of dumb, threat: so don't put too much weight on it. Again, as Ssusje said, if you are still afraid, there's nothing like a good antivirus cannot solve. People smart enough to know how viruses really work are smart enough to not do these kind of dumb threats.

About the private messages about your art: i think it's not a mistery that your level is still one of a beginner, and i truly hope that no one here is being "angry" about it. Everyone must start somewhere, and talent is not something that can be found under the rocks. You're not drawing anything offensive: at least you are trying and you seem to be willing to listen to our advices for improving, and from what i readed so far, people here appreciate this.

So, if anyone has anything negative (constructive or not) to say about your art, they can do it in this very thread, because this is the reason why we're here: if they tell it to you in private, it means they have something they dont want others to know, so i wouldnt give too much credit to their opinions, especially if they're coupled with the threats of above.

I'm leaving the thread open, to let people voice their opinions. I would like anyone to behave and not start witch hunts. As you know, they raise more probems than they solve Wink
