hey all. This thread is for only the Writing entries for Lisa-Con 2007. Everyone is encouraged to submit something to this, but it is not a "must do" thing. There will be extra threads for the Con-Crit for each story.

There are a few rules to go with this.

1.All entries must be in by March 1st. If certain circumstances allow the dead line may be moved back a few days.

2. Entries must not exceed 2500 words. There is no limit as to how short it can be. I know how hard this kind of deadline and size limit can be so try to be as close as possible to the size limit. If there are many entries, it would be hard for me to give adequate time to each story. I want to be a fair judge.

3. It is prefered that the stories not contain a lot of blood and gore. Exceptions to this rule are "Itchy and scratchy" cartoons and Tree house of Horror style stories. Even these things should be kept to a minimum.

4. For the review section (This rule is for EVERYONE) No reviews saying things like "I hated it" or "It sucked." give the writers something that they can work with. Remember this is a community of good people who want to improve on their writing and art skills, so show them kindness and make a real attempt at the reviews.

5. The same rules apply to positive reviews. No "It was great" kind of reviews. Give reasons why you liked it

6. There will be a voting thread opened up on the 3rd of March and everyone can vote, but only once.

7. Last but not least, please remember that the judges are the ones who are running this contest. Each one of them is doing this for the fun of the community, please show them the same respect that you show to Serge and Marco.

Though there may be quite a few rules this should not hinder you too much. For me there is no Sign up deadline, just a due date for the stories. One major request is that all stories need to be written in English. I am not fluent in any language except English.

Oh, I love reviewing stuff, that is why so many people hate me;-) I think I'll do some reviewing here if you don't mind.
I've got a question. Are we going to know the authors' names? I suggest that you keep them in secret till the end of the Con. You can even make a "Guess-who-wrote-this" contest;-)

that is a good Idea fulbert. If we do that though I need each entrant to send me their name and story title so that I can know what it is.

The point of the reviewing part is so that EVERYONE can review them, but I am interested in another judge or two.

the reason that I would like every reader to review the stories is so that the writer can still get the needed Constructive help needed to improve their writing skills. As an added incentive, I will build a special Page on my website for the winners of both the writing and art sections. For the winners I would like to get some facial Pics and a little Bio for the page.

1st, 2nd, and 3rd place winners will all be featured on said page. The site is going through an overhaul at the moment, but by the time this whole thing is done the site should be fully operational

It seems as though there will be no writing entries within the time limit of the contest, so i am considering pushing it back a week or so. The only problem is does anyone at all have plans to write anything for this competition? George Harrison and myself are each doing a story, but is anyone else? please I really must know if anyone is going to. I dont want to push back a deadline to find that not a single person has posted an entry. Please give me some feedback on this.


I want everyone to know that I am mainly wanting entries for this competition. YOU DO NOT HAVE TO REVIEW OTHER ENTRIES. Each entry will have a full review by me a at least one other judge. i dont want people to feel obligated to review stories.

Maybe it would be good to extend the deadline to a couple weeks after the art one ends?

I haven't finished my entry either, and it probably will take me awhile to finish it, so extending the deadline is a good idea.

that sounds good casper. I think that I might just move the deadline to about a month or so after the art deadline is done. That way the artists can have a chance at writing too and there might be more entries.

well I would like to know who is entering, but I would like the writers to submit their work to me. I want the writer to be secret so that no one knows who wrote what, but i still need to know


POST EDIT: okay due to my lack of foresight, I have come to the realization that my "rules" as they could be called are udderly retarded (and i am not talking about cows here). I would like everyone to forget the old length limitations and date. the new rules are as follows: 1. the size should not exceed ten pages. (I was looking at my story and realized how fast 2500 words gets used up). The font may be 10 or 12 size (NO LARGER OR SMALLER PLEASE). A ten pages is the max.

rule 2. the date for the submissions is May 1ST. This should give many people adequate time to write a full story. The size limit is only a guideline, it can be shorter then ten pages.

If anyone has a problem with these new rules please speak up and tell me. I will be glad to address them

That's a shame... I'd really like to see this go forward, but it appears that not enough people are willing to put the time into writing.

well see had I known that ANYONE at all was doing some entries I would keep it open, But for the third time, I have asked people to PM, write something in this thread or on the Lisacon thread.

I asked three times and no one aswered. I will ask one last time, Does anyone else plan to participate in this? if it is just the three of us, then it will not stay open. If we can get even one more participant, then i will keep it open.

And once again, we agreed that we're waiting the art LisaCon to finish first, then going on with the writing one, do you remember? I just don't understand why you want everything and right now - give people some time to arrange their things.

What I mean is, if you will ask people about their participation after the LisaCon finishes, you'll probably get more positive answers. (Probably not, though, I don't know. I just think right now it's not the best time.)

First of all - this "thing" is very small and booooring fiction. I must be fair now - I hate that dialogue with Hugh! It looks so "soap-operish" that i really feel disgust :-/. But it gives at least some sense to the story. And it's not kind of relations between people that i like to discuss or consider up in details. But i simply could not think up something more interesting. Also i would to say (what to hide?) the first two pages I wrote under inspiration whereas the rest I did forcing myself, therefore also it has turned out so laboured. And original plot was a little different. Neverthless be it good or bad piece of fan-fiction i'm glad to show you at least my first... "written work", I think (especially on english). It was uneasy to do. I speak to create a more-less acceptable plot was same difficult task as well as to directly translate it.

Any criticism are welcome (even most rigid)!

My promised opinion about your writing entry (finally! )

I have read both Russian and English versions. Much thanks for sending me the original (or was it double-translated?) version, it helped me really I liked your story a lot. Nice plot, nice flow, nice moment from Lisa's quite possible future... I think it's a good competition entry. I also liked your descriptions, and how you show and describe her thoughts and decisions.

The only thing that looked odd to me, was Lisa's reaction to Hugh... her behavior was quite hostile towards him. Is it possible that she still feels bad about those events from the "Lisa's Wedding"? If she's American president, and he's a British minister, they should respect each other, otherwise it can be dangerous for both countries and they are both mature and clever enough to understand that.

That's my only nitpick about your story. Everything else I did like. If that was your first attempt to write a story in a foreign language, I bow to you.
