drawing.simps.net.ruNot really a site - more a collection of books and tutorials on general "How to draw" subject. Created and maintained by Fulbert from ISFF (thanks!). I didn't download much from the place yet, because well, local traffic limitations but I hope it will be useful for the others. The filenames say for themselves. Use wisely P.S. Most of the books are in PDF format while some are in DejaVu one. There is a reader installer for the latter one. P.P.S. "Cartooning with the Simpsons" is also there.

Yeah, and I'd like to mention that some of the books there are in Russian. Those are:
- the "50_*.pdf" serie. Not that there's much text... But all the text they have is in Russian. - Christopher_Hart_-_Aliens_Halloween.pdf - not too much text either. - Francisco_Server_-_Risunok_Dlya_Nachinayushikh.djvu - I don't think it's worth downloading unless you can read Russian. - Osnovy_risovaniya.pdf - translated as "Basics of Drawing". I don't know how it really is called in English, but it's written by Greg Albert and Rachel Wolfe (or Wolf, maybe?) Anyway, it's got a decent amount of text, so you'd better find the English version if you don't know Russian.

Just downloaded and looked carefully at the "50 Birds" book. Pros: like Fulbert said, you don't have to know Russian to understand it, all the important information is in the illustrations. It can be really useful as a guide. The drawings are good and obviously were made by professional, which is also good. Cons: it's not an educational book actually. It's pure guide... you won't find basics of birds anatomy there, or how to draw a wing correctly. It has many examples, but all of them are finished or half-finished. I'm not sure I can use it to draw a bird from scratch, or to draw a scene from my imagination instead of copying one from the book. I'd like to hear an opinion of someone who knows more about drawing though, I can be very wrong. : Ugh... can we also have similar books about cats, or horses? (I'm only partially joking here btw )

DagdamorMaybe this book can help in drawing animals - http://www.maxiol.com/books/index.htm?&t=view1&id=7&p=1 (1 page=1 picture, it is not comfortable). Horses and cats included. Also sketch-by-sketch method, but more detailed and useful, I think. There is a pdf-version in e2k, but it's 127 Mbytes. Books "50 horses" and "50 cats" written(drawn) by the same author, but hard to found e-versions. Yes, these books more for copying, not for learning

Hey hey hey, kids! That's Fulbert the Klown, bwa-ha-ha-ha!;-)
Today we all thank our dear friend Suusje for the large e-books archive he helped me to find. In fact, it's so large I'm still sorting it out. But I've already uploaded some of the books to our ftp, and these are as follows:
1. Burne Hogarth - Drawing Dynamic Hands - 14M. A kinda complicated book about drawing dynamic hands and arms. It's definitely not for newbies. Why did I upload it here? I dunno... What if we have a pro here? 2. Burne Hogarth - Drawing the Human head - 28Mb. Another pro book, the title speaks for itself. 3. Ken Hultgren - The Art of Animal Drawing - 25Mб. That's a good one. This book shows us how to draw beautiful, free, strong and dangerous animals. Panthers, bears, horses - you name it. 4. "Manga Mania" series. A series of simpe albums that show how to draw different kinds of anime and manga characters. The books are in Russian, but the text there is fairly meningless, and the bookmarks are translated into Englisgh so the English-speaking readers could navigate through the books. - Manga-Mania_-_Devochki_i_Devushki.pdf - 16.7Mб. Translated into English as "Girls and Young Women":-) - Manga-Mania_-_Roboty_i_Mechanzmy.pdf - 21Мб. This one is translated as "Robots and Mechanisms" - Manga-Mania_-_Yunoshi_i_Muzhchiny.pdf - 16Mб. This one is "Boys and Men". 5. J.D._Harding_-_On_Drawing_Trees_and_Nature.pdf - 48Мб. This useful books is all about nature. The sticks and stones, the trees and grass, clouds and blue sky... Anything to make a perfect countryside landscape. 6. Jack_Hamm_-_Drawing_Scenery_Seascapes_And_Landscapes.pdf - 27 Мб. This one is one of my favourites. It shows how to draws stones and trees, and especially - seashores. And even I managed to draw a realistic rock using this book:-) 7. Gary_Faigin_-_The Artist's_Complete_Guide_To_Facial_Expression.pdf - 48 Мб. A rather serious book on facial expressions.

Hello again. There's a little something I want to ask you. Rather often the books I run into in the Net are very big. Sometimes as big as 200 Mb. So I edit them so that they take a little less space - resize the pages, reduce the quality a bit and so on. As the result, they take not more than 50 Mb. What I want to ask is this: do I really have to do this, or it is okay with you to download such volumes of information? Or maybe I should upload two versions of the books - "Full" and "Lite"? Or don't mind it and upload them as they are? Please tell me.

full and lite sounds the best from a user's point of view (that way eveyrone' happy) if you don't mind doing the extra work.

I wouldn't have a problem downloading larger files as I've got broadband, however, those on dialup or with bandwidth/download limits may struggle. From the ones I've looked at, the resolution is perfectly useable on the lite versions and they're suitable for all connections so despite the extra work you have to do resizing etc. this is probably still the way to go. Of course, as D.B. said, offering full and lite versions would be the ideal solution, if you've got the time and the server space.

The ftp owner, Dagdamor, says that the space is not a problem. And I don't mind doing some extra work (in fact, that's how I read the books - while resizing them:-) ). So I think I'll be uploading two versions from now - Hires and midres (for "lores" sounds so cheap).
Yeah, and we have some more good news. mmaavv uploaded some books, such as: - Andrew Loomis - Eye Of The Painter 2.pdf - Artist's Companion - Construction Aid For Artists .pdf - Burne Hogarth - Dynamic Figure Drawing.pdf - Drawing realistic textures in pencil .pdf - Learn To Paint Flowers.pdf - the encyclopedia of airbrush tecniques.pdf And many more, but that's up to you to look for:-)
Furthermore, as the collection is getting sort of large, we reorganized it so that it is easier for you to navigate through. I think it's more convenient now that we have folders and stuff. I really do hope we didn't foul up anyone's downloads. If we did, we're deeply sorry. We'll try not to do that anymore:-)

These guides are a life saver. I've been browsing for a guide on how to draw Lisa using those construction lines, to make perspectives work easier. However, I came across this: http://www.drawingnow.com/how-to-draw-lisa-simpson.htmlIf your a Lisa fanatic, and EXTREMELY lazy (like me when I started), use this guide! Otherwise... just, move along. (requires Flash Shockwave... something or another)

Good news for those who are going to make an old-skool computer game of their own:-) I happened to come across some neat pixel-art tutorials. If anybody wants to learn how they used to create computer graphics so many years ago, welcome:-) Some cool examples of pixel-art can also be found here.

FulbertWhoa... don't tell me that some of those photorealistic images weren't just processed from photos, but were drawn by hands. That just can't be possible. o_O Both links seem to be great resources... even if you aren't planning to draw in pixelart style, it's still nice to check all those pictures. Here is something for example Isn't it nicely done.

I always loved Pixel Art, reminds me of the old games from the past and their beautifully hand drawn graphics. So many memories, and it's great to see that even today, lots of people still like that and work to bring it forward in the internet. Thanks for the links, Fulbert!
