I haven't seen this one asked before so here goes:
If you were put in a position where you could only watch one last episode of the show, EVER, which episode would you choose? This doesn't necessarily mean your favorite episode (though it could).
For example: I would choose 'Lisa's Wedding' even though my favorite episode is, at the moment, a tie between 'Moanin Lisa' and 'Summer of 4 Ft. 2'.
For me that episode was as close to how I'd like to see the show end as I could ever hope for. So many memorable moments, lines and gags. And everything from when Homer asks Hugh to wear those pig cufflinks until Lisa and Homer walk into the distance hand in hand back in the present was absolute gold, for me at least.

Hm, interesting situation to be in.
I'm going through my mental archive of Simpsons episodes... and if I had to pick one, just one, I'd go with "Rosebud", from season 5. For those of you who don't remember, it's the episode where Maggie finds Mr. Burns's teddy bear "Bobo" and Homer has to decide whether or not to give Burns the bear in exchange for money, or let Maggie keep it.
Some of you may be wondering "What was so great about that episode?" or "Why that one?" In truth, I don't know exactly why myself. I guess the best explanation I could give you is that it has a lot of good memories tied to it. Most of the 5th season does for me. And of course the episode was a good one still, without those memories.

Is the Movie an episode? I think I would watch "Homers Paternity Coot" because it was the first one I ever watched, and I watched it only once - at least I think so.

Interesting question, but should I take it as the "last episode of the show" as well? If so, I would prefer choosing something from the recent seasons instead... something like "Sleeping with the Enemy" (very good episode, IMO), or "Smart and Smarter". If the question is just to pick one best episode from the show... I give up. No single episode can replace the whole show for me. There were too much brilliant episodes and moments.

If I had to choose one last episode after which I could never watch the show again, it would have to be Summer of 4 ft. 2. Not only is it a fantastic Lisa episode with the combination of humour and heart that OFF used to do so well, I also get a sense of finality from it. To me, it really is the end of the "classic" Simpsons (this is going to be controversial ) as although there were some good eps after season 7, it was really the start of the downhill slide. It would have been a great ep to go out on.

"The Summer Of 4 Ft. 2" is probably the best pick indeed - it is definitely one of the best Simpsons episodes that were ever made, and the ending features a heartwarming "Good Bye". It has ample fun, sibling rivalry, and a wonderful portrait of Lisa, trying to find herself.

janglewolfI'm inclined to agree here. It does have a sense of finality to it (being that it was the last episode of the season), and it does seem that that was one of the last classic Simpsons episodes. Season 8 had its moments as did season 9, but if you had to draw the line somewhere, it'd probably be at the end of season 7. Summer of 4 ft. 2 is probably one of my favorite episodes, and I did like season 7, but it's eclipsed by season 5 for me. (Should I say season a few more times? )

No, I think saying it 6 times is ok. And I think Summer of 4 ft. 2 would be a good final episode, too. Or maybe both... I even know the town's name (Little Pwagmattasquarmsettport) so maybe I should watch one that I don't know that well - or not at all.

Glad to see this topic taking off a little! I still stand by 'Lisa's Wedding' for mine but 'Summer of 4 ft. 2' is reeeaaaaally close.

Summer of 4th ft. 2 is for me too. It's not *overly* Lisacentric and every character shines... ... even Milhouse!

Tough question, choosing an episode from early seasons would make me unaware of all future episodes, perhaps good ones. I'd go with Lisa's Wedding, or The Star Is Torn. Both of them were good as a "Goodbye" episode, to watch it and always remember the show if it gets closed.

This is just like asking "in which age would you prefer to commit suicide?" :/ The answer is: never! The last season, 20th, has shown us the wonderful "Cross Words" episode. But I wouldn't cease watching the Simpsons even after it, I don't need a "goodbye" episode, I need more good episodes. Sorry if I understood something wrong...

You are right Dagdamor, Simpsons should never stop, you attend just the usefulness of it... If they would, I would throw (mentally) my TV out of the window. Don't know how the 20th season is, but in the 19th I realise an elevation of quality in two episodes yet and today they're going to show an episode that earned an emmy reward...

Don't get me wrong here. I don't want the show to stop either. I was merely curious as towhat would result from a slightly different approach to the standard 'your favorite episode' questions.

In Desert Island Disks style my favorite episode I would watch would be Summer of 4 ft 2.
Fantastic episode which shows Lisa making friends, being confident, being happy and in different clothes too (i like to see here in different styles). Also it contains Bart actually realizing he went too far and doing something nice for her, showing that he really does care deep down.
If that episode wasn't available it would be Moanin' Lisa or Lisa's Wedding.
