It's probably very hard to decide, since there are so many wonderful episodes, but I tried to make a top 10 list of Lisa episodes. I really can't decide which one is number one, but I'll try to sort them at least a bit.

Separate Vocations

This one definitely has to be one of my all-time favorite episodes, and actually, it's the key episode that finally made me a Lisa fan when it was first aired in Germany about 1993. Somehow, I always liked Lisa when she's trying to break out from her usual self, and so seeing her a bit mischievous, almost playing the role of Bart, left a rather huge impression on me that wednesday in late january 1993.

The Summer of 4 Ft. 2

I always liked the "summer" themed episodes as well, and obviously, this is a direct continuation of Lisa breaking out of her usual habits, trying to imitate the "cool" behavior of her brother. Her new friends are wonderful, and this episode is filled with an endless amount of great gags as well.

Lisa's Substitute

Possibly one of the most emotional episodes ever made, and together with "Stark Raving Dad" this is probably the best usage of a guest star ever. Mr. Bergstrom is the teacher who every school kid would like to have, and the ending is just heartbreaking and heartwarming at the same time. Everytimes I see it, I can't really help to shed a tear or two (or even more Lisa ).

Lisa on Ice

Seeing Bart and Lisa teaming up and fighting together as siblings rather than against each other is always heartwarming, and this is probably the episode where it's shown at its best. One of the truly unforgettable moments of the entire show.

Lisa's Rival

The idea of introducing someone who is even smarter than Lisa was a great move, and I also like the fact that Allison still shows up now and then in the background, unlike other one-time characters, like Alex, Jessica or Greta (yes, I know that some may have shown up now and then, but not that frequent as Allison). It's also wonderful to see that Lisa and Allison finally became friends, after their initial rivalry.

Lisa's Sax

This episode is just wonderful, from the beginning to the very end. Young Lisa is simply adorable, and the Gerry Rafferty song at the end could play forever. Smile

Lisa's Wedding

Like the "summer theme" episodes, those that are showing either the past or the future are somewhat special, and this is definitely the best "future" episode so far. The older Lisa looks terrific, and there are so many great ideas and jokes in this episode.

Moanin' Lisa

Maybe I should have mentioned this episode earlier above, but as I said, I can't really make an order within this top 10 list. It's truly one of the gems in the very first season, and although the characters weren't that well developed back then, the producers really nailed down Lisa's personality in this episode. Back in the Tracey Ullmann time, she wasn't much different than Bart, but I guess I can speak for everyone when I say that this change was the best thing they could have done for the whole show.  Lisa

Lisa Gets an A

For my coming of age ceremony (aka. confirmation), I chose a bible motto that could be paraphrased as "You will only get the victory if you played fair." This episode is a perfect example for this motto, and I'm sure everyone of us was confronted with a similar situation at least once. Again, this episode is showing a bit of Lisa's "dark side", and that's she's not perfect after all. But it makes her human, and that's what counts.

Little Girl in the Big Ten

I guess I don't surprise anyone by stating that the quality of the show has rapidly declined after the 9th or 10th season, but now and then, a gem can be found within the lake of mediocrity. This episode is one of them, and it surely has the same "feeling" like many of the old classics. Seeing Lisa in pure bliss while attending college is just wonderful, and it's also quite funny how she's trying to cover her true identity.

Ok, hopefully, a few others will post their top 10 episodes as well, and I'm eager to read why you consider them as the best of the best. I know that it's probably hard to find a few words about each of them, but I encourage you to try it at least.  Lisa

It's great to see other "top 10" lists, but as I said, I'd love to see some comments why you picked those episodes as well. Smile

Alright, I'll put some comments: Wink

1. Summer of 4 ft. 2
I love this episode because Lisa tried her best to change herself, but realized that she still had her friends after they found out about her true identity. I love how she tries to sound cool; she's nice like that.
2. Lisa's Substitute
This is one of the writers' shining trophies. It's got a lesson, and Lisa finds part of herself, finally. "You are Lisa Simpson" is classic and beautiful.
3. 'Round Springfield (Lisa sang pretty well!)
Lisa has extensive musical talents, and her sax solos were... wow. I wonder who they got to record that. Lisa loses a dear friend here, but she's able to give him a great gift after he dies.
4. Lisa the Simpson
Lisa is starting to think that she's growing dumber, but Homer, as a great dad, rounds up all of their nearest relatives to show her that they weren't all dumb.

Unfortunately, they were.

But after Lisa meets the female relatives, she has more confidence in herself. I couldn't solve that puzzle, either!
5. Little Girl in the Big Ten
Lisa looked so pretty in her bonnet, and she fit in perfectly with the college students. Even after she's found out, she wins back her friends with her daring deed, thanks to Bart. Tongue
6. The President Wore Pearls
As few may know, I'm a big Broadway addict, so this parody of Evita made my day when I first watched it. Lisa is a perfect example of a simple girl drowned in the glamour of being a celebrity. Yet, she fights her way to make the school great.
7. Future Drama
Lisa and Bart bond a lot in this one, so it's nice to see them such good friends. Bart loves Lisa so much, that he sacrifices his Yale scholarship to give it to her.  Bart Love Lisa
8. Lard of the Dance
Even if Lisa is the smartest of the bunch, she won't stop being a lovable kid! She lets herself go wild in this funny little eppy.
9. She of Little Faith
Lisa wants more in her life, so she becomes a Buddhist and discovers a lot about herself. She's really maturing very fast.
10. Lisa the Vegetarian
Quite like number 9, she becomes a vegetarian because she cares. Wink

"Lisa's Substitute" is the best Lisa Episode and the best Episode ever, because I think this episode has the most enjoyable feeling, the most wonderful character (Bergstrom) and a wonderful ending with a very special father-like Homer. It is too complex to explain, lets just say, this episode is PERFECT!

"Lisas Wedding" has Lisa as a grown up women. And with a very good characterism. And also a extraordenary view to the future of the Simpsons. Love it!

"The Summer of 4 Ft. 2" shows a world, that really could never exist, but it is a charming story. Lisa, as a outsider, gets friends and the relationship between Bart and Lisa is told very interisting .

"Lisas First Word" is just explained in four words: "It is sooo cute!"

"Secret War Of Lisa Simpson" is especially uptodate, shows that Lisa would join a military society for the good. That confirmes my decision I made, to become a career soldier.

"Lisa on Ice" has the best story about the relationship of Bart and Lisa!

"Moanin' Lisa" is the first Lisa Episode, and the first bleeding gums episode and so moody! Love it!

"Round Springfield"... I think I donīt need to explain that! *crys*

"Scuse Me While I Miss The Sky" the best episode of the new generations. I think it deserves to be in the list. "Donīt you think you are overreacting, talking gumball machine?"

[every other Lisa-Episode]  is also great!  Smile

*Note: These are not listed in order, as I simply cannot decide which ones I like better.

1. Lisa's Wedding: I love future-themed Simpsons episodes, and of the three, this one is the best (in my opinion). It shows the relationship between Lisa and her family, and even though they drive her crazy sometimes, she loves them still.

2. Summer of 4 ft 2: I enjoy this one because of the relationship she develops with the kids in New Pwagmattasquarmsettport, or however you spell it, and how at the end, they accept her as who she is. The song at the end (I think it is the Beach Boys) is a great way to end the season and head into summer.

3. Lisa the Vegetarian: It really shows Lisa's character developing and maturing, and hey, it had Paul McCartney! Nuff said! Tongue

4. Lisa on Ice: This episode not only shows how Lisa and Bart have a great relationship that always pulls through in the end, but deals somewhat of a blow to the common misconception that Lisa is a "nerd" who doesn't play sports, and is a straight-A, perfect student.

5. 'Round Springfield: Even though it killed a good character and true friend of Lisa's, this episode helped Lisa suffer through a hard time in her life, the loss of a good friend, and showed how Bart cares for her after he spends his $500 on an album to help her honor the memory of Bleeding Gums. ("Y'see, the kids, they listen to the rap, which gives 'em the brain damage! So they dunno what the jazz is all about!" -Bill Cosby Tongue)

6. Lisa the Simpson: Lisa is able to cope with being a Simpson and finds out that even though her father is somewhat of a dimwit, there is hope for her yet.

7. She of Little Faith: This is a very misunderstood episode. People look at Lisa and just think "Yeah okay so she was Christian and now she's Buddhist, bada bing bada boom, turn off T.V. kkthxbye". But it shows how she doesn't have traditional religious beliefs, rather concepts derived from Christianity and Buddhism. She said, "I still believe there is a God" which is something that Buddhists typically don't believe. The corruption of the church simply led her to find, "a temple which is free of corruption." This shows how mature Lisa is, that she can see deeper than most do, who simply pick a religion for the title.

8. Lisa's Rival: This is a good episode because Lisa finally meets an intellectual equal that she can befriend. Even though Allison Taylor isn't mentioned much after this, it gives Lisa some kind of friend she can see as an equal.

9. Lisa's Sax: The story of how Lisa came to get her saxophone shows that even though Homer has a self-centered side, he also cares about his family and sacrifices a new air conditioner (twice!) so that Lisa can have something to nourish her gift. The Gerry Rafferty song that Lisa plays near the end is so powerful and moving.

10. The Old Man and the Lisa: This shows that even though Lisa doesn't like Mr. Burns (for obvious reasons), she is still willing to believe that everyone can change their ways. And even though she ends up being wrong, the end when she refuses to take Mr. Burns' enormous amount of offered money shows her true integrity, even when faced with the ultimate evil... "Money, so they say, is the root of all evil today." -Pink Floyd

I can't think of a top10, because all Lisa episodes are great, but the episode that's definitely my favorite is "Moaning Lisa". It has a nice and touching storyline, awesome music and a funny subplot. The scene where Lisa and Bleeding Gums Murphy are playing the sax on the bridge is easily my favorite moment of the entire series.

Other episodes like "Summer Of 4 Ft. 2", "Lisa's Sax", "Lisa On Ice" and "Lisa's Substitute" are also great episodes. Lisa

Homer vs. Lisa and the 8th Commandment +++
I don't know to say. This is a really one of the best old series that I can remember (along with Mr.Lisa Goes to Washington or Lisa vs. Malibu Stacy, but they too "retro" for me now Smile ) This episode shows Lisa's one of the best spiritual quality - her honesty. I'm not a worshiper of christianity now but that she has followed one of the commandment was so cute ^_^ And when she struggled with circumstances to safe the one she loved - her father (by Marge's advice) she was really example to follow by.

Lisa the Vegetarian ++++
This episode a kind of key one for me now. She get better by refuse of meateating and I can only envy to her spiritual strenght. Still, she was almost surrendered those times, when she yelled the whole world impels her to eat the meat. No one deprived his weakness, sometimes it could simply overcome you.

Fraudcast News +++
Only a pair of months this episode is on my "fave"-list. But I almost get to love it. Since the plot was very interesting, and Lisa's literature-work was amazing Gigi Again there was shown her weakness and only Homer helped her those times. Sometimes the father is awake in him Smile

Lost Our Lisa ++++
One more father-daughter beautiful episode. Now Lisa shown as a real child, she losts in big city and it's really terrible. I'm just happy that finally she has visited the Egypt-exposition.

Make Room For Lisa ++++
It's strange but the third episode runnig is this one. Again about Lisa's relationship with father. Maybe because all those episodes her character shown more deeply and lyric, I don't know. But her relations with parents is not what I'm interested too much. More I like to wacth her self-knowledge and how she deals with human's shortcomings. And this is definitely one of the best Lisa-episodes ever, everyone admit it Smile

`Scuse Me While I Miss the Sky ++++
The night skies, the nature and Lisa - what can be more harmonious? And when the light-pollution breaks her little idyll, the whole thing comes wrong, right to the moment when Bart clicks the swicth to overload the generators and to stop the light-madness. A beautiful and dreamy episode, everytime when I walk under the night skies I remember it and it becomes more warm at my heart.

Little Big Mom +++
Again no one has deprived of his weakness and when Lisa realises it, she is deeply in trouble with her guys. Homer and Bart like a grown-up babies, they won't listen little lady and behave oneself just awful. Still it's kinda justified when all they gone to Hawaii (or where it was?), some recreation after all those craziness she deserves.

Missionary: Impossible ++
This is not exactly Lisa's episode but I like it so much. Some religious references, the jokes aside but after all the end of a story was quite unpleasant. I don't know, this episode have some attraction. And there was a kind of "deputy" of Lisa.

Jazzy and Pussycats ++
One mere not fully dedicate episode. It shows how Lisa would act when all she loved was taken away by her own brother, shortly became her enemy. The only delight for her now to save the no man's animals. But and here the sudden trouble awaits. And like a retribution to Bart it turns him to lose the musical gift, sadly.

Moe 'N' a Lisa +++
Moe's poetic soul was discovered by Lisa and with her help the dull bartender becomes a man of the world. And again her naivety was scorned to pull her down so harly. But she is still able to forgive and I'm happy to see it, once again.

Thanks for reading! ;p

Hah, that was a great review! Thanks, it was a pleasure to read that. Smile
I'm still not ready to do my list, just posting 10 episodes in a row is easy, I will try something more complex... Wink

I can't believe none of you mentioned a Star is Torn. The song she sang at the finale almost made me cry when I first heard it.

A Star Is Torn episode is good by one's own way. The main thing I do like is Lisa's come out for healthy eating. And of course she's so cute when she sings her fisrt lullaby to all the family members. Smile But the second part I don't like at all, sorry. All that singer's contest is something just a rubbish for me, with it's cynicism. I think the big showbusiness is not for her, she better that that. And can find her way to acknowledgement she wants so (not a cheap popularity like a pop-singer).
