FYI: I'm about to move soon and might be out of the loop for a while. My grandma, who still lives at home at the age of 96, fell recently and broke her hip, and is now recovering in rehab. A few years ago, we arranged things in a way that my brother would live in the flat in the upper floor of her house and look after her every now and then, but since he moved together with his girlfriend recently, the flat is now empty again.

Since I'm the only one in the family who is rather "free" at the moment, we decided that I should move there. At the moment, the house is empty, so I hope to get everything done rather quickly, and I hope that my ISP is able to switch my DSL access within the next two weeks or so. This means I might disappear soon for a few days, but hopefully, I'm fully back around mid-/late may. If there's any news, I'll keep you posted here. Smile

Take good care of your grandma Andreas, LTS won't sure move away so it'll still be here to wait for when you'll be connected again!

Andreas
Reminds me of the episode when Bart got punished and forced to work in the retirement castle. There he meets Lisa and asks her, "Lisa, they got you too?!" and she answers that she works there of her own will for several months Big Grin sorry, couldn't resist!
Anyway, hope things will be fine there and your grandma will recover soon. Have good luck on your new place Smile

Not sure if it's a good or bad thing on your end, but hope you're going to a better place, uh, home.

See you sometime soon!

Nah, it's not that bad. Wink We understand each other rather well, and I don't have to pay a rent this way. My brother completely renovated the upper flat before he moved in, so it's still in great shape, and the only thing I have to do is moving my stuff after all. Smile

Hello all,

here's a short status update on my move... Since my DSL connection stopped working at my old place last saturday (of course, neither my ISP nor the German Telekom bothered to send me a note about the date in the first place), I called the hotline and got informed that the switch-over was set for May 8th. Anyway, that was the signal for me to move the rest of my stuff, and now I'm sitting at my new place with my notebook between lots of brown boxes, and to my surprise, the DSL line is working here already. It'll take a few more days to get settled, but I should be back fully soon. Smile

Well, that was lucky... had i done something like that in Italy, it'd pass months before i'd see my DSL line back, and i would probably have to be considered lucky too Big Grin

Hope the rest of the moving goes smoothly, good luck!

Good luck with the rest of the move... I had the same thing with British Telecom, they gave me an ADSL activation date but as soon as i got send the modem (days before wireless routers) i plugged it in to get the install done and voila it synced, 2 weeks early. I called to make sure it was ok to use and they confirmed....

Sometimes these national utility companies can do something good, shame about most of the time though!

I suppose its very typical for the German companies to be so organised. Something I'm jelous about. Tongue

Anyways, ditto, hope everything else is a doddle. Smile

Not if the German Telekom is involved - usually you have to wait several weeks. But there are some rare occasions when it's different, apparently. But actually, I wouldn't be surprised, if the DSL line is still the old one that my brother had when he lived here. It got shut down a few months ago, but who knows if anyone bothered to disconnect it properly back then. Today, I bought some kitchen furniture, and as usual, two items were missing, so I'll get them later this week, but it finally starts to take shape here. So far, everything went smooth, but my dad, clumsy as he is (just like Homer Wink ), broke the wooden frame of my Lisa poster by Jake Lennington. Sad At least the glass is still intact, so he promised he'll make me a new frame.

Yeah even I have experience of Deutche Telekom AG here in UK... as a lot of people do. Customer service leaves a lot to be desired! Yup it's those scallywags @ T-Mobile.... owned by DTAG. Cant wait till i leave thier service... although will be sad to lose my old "Lisa phone" , then again it's an excuse to get a new one.

Still I would still love to return to my family roots in Germany.... absolutely loved it while in Hamburg..... if I just get a crappier internet connection thats a small trade off heh heh. As casper said its unusual, germans usually have efficiency... one area i do not follow my german side of my family lol. My web servers are in Germany and the company, Schlund / 1&1 have been the best company I have ever been with.

Good to hear the move is coming along shame about the Lisa poster, hopefully you will get a nice frame Smile

Well, it looks like I was celebrating too early - my internet connection disappeared again last wednesday, so I'm just checking my mails and stuff at the local observatory (where we got DSL after a long odyssey last fall finally). My ISP is 1&1, and I never had any problems with my DSL line since 2001, but once the Telekom gets involved, things get screwed up.  Evil  Anyway, I hope they'll fix the problem soon...
