WARNING: THE PICTURES IN THIS POST CONTAIN SELF-INSERTS. RUN, CHILDREN!

Hullo. Sorry for the large amount of lurking I’ve been doing, but I have been reading here and found some very interesting topics. The following pictures are partly inspired by the winged Lisa discussion thread and topic in general, and partly by wanting to try out a different colouring style. I’ve never done this cel-shading sort of thing before, but I wanted to give it a go and see if I could get it looking clean enough. Con-crit very welcome, especially if it’s on how to do clean lines or where the shadows should really go.  Gigi

Please note: no, I don’t remember exactly what I was thinking.  Wink

Immediately wins on account of originality Big Grin. The only similar thing i can remmeber is that pciture someone on simpworks did ages ago af a garden of simpsons themed plant.

Anyway, the wood effect on the wings is very neat, as are the feathers.  Though in sunflower1, while arguably not the correct thing to do, I'd have left out the feathers whose tips are poking out from behind the flower; they're a little distracting.

Linework looks smooth imho - did you do it by hand or with something like a bezier curve?

Shadows I know nothing about, so I'll leave that to more qualified people to discus. That you bothered to include them in the wire of the lampshade certainly seems like a sign that you're on the right track.

And one question I've just got to ask - did you actually construct this thing?  Smile

Awesome, I love these. I especially like all the attention to detail, such as the shading on the sunflower-lamp contraption and the woodgrain effects. Your character is great as well, regarding the rendition in Simpson's form and the shading.

In this instance I think it was the right decision that you opted to use colored lines rather than just black lines for everything. For the most part the lines are smooth, but if you look at the second picture, since it's larger you can see that the lines are kind of shaky and could benefit from a little more smoothing.

Like D.B. I can't offer much insight on the shadows (I usually blame awkward shadows on an 'unnatural light source,' haha). Though, the lighter shadows extending from the legs of the chair in sunflower1 could probably be removed (the darker shadow under the chair looks fine).

I wouldn't have guessed this was your first effort at cel-shading, you've made the transition well. Thanks for sharing.

Beb
I like it! Self-insertions are perfectly alright unless you picture yourself as a super-being creature. Tongue
But these pictures... they are adorable and funny, and very original, and well done technically. Awesome work, especially the last picture. Try hard and one day you'll fly Smile

I have no con-crit, sorry Smile no nitpicks about the technical part of the pics. And the idea is sweet.

These are some very pleasing yet, some what nostalgic pictures to behold... The first one, I remember once, I was trying to draw a reflection of Lisa in a mirror, and couldnt figure out how it would look. So I modled a figure of Lisa using Blu-Tac, and posed it in front of a mirror, and simply drew its reflection.  Tongue

Anyway, on topic, they're as usual very well drawn peices. I'll be honest, I wont say I'm suprised that you managed to create all the characters/objects on model in each picture, because your incredibly high standard expects this from you. However, the finished result is very impressive, and respects that high standard you leave behind. Smile

I'll take a brave pill, and try to disect my thoughts of the subject.
Seems like, the first picture is representing the normal, drawing Lisa as an angelic creature. The second one is realising that, behind the wings, she's not an angel, just a normal person (personified as the sunflower ofcourse). And the third, is trying to become the angel. Maybe symbolising that, there is an angel inside us all? Or trying to find the angel inside?
This probably isnt what is was designed to be thought as, but its how I interpreted it. I like it a lot. Smile

Thanks for sharing, I like these brain storming pictures. Smile

Oh, as for concrit... I'm out of my league. Wink It looks fine to me!

Thanks, everyone! Casper, it was interesting reading your interpretations of the various pics, and I have to try that Blu-Tac thing next time I'm stuck.  Big Grin

And one question I've just got to ask - did you actually construct this thing?   Smile

I can, er, see why you might think that  Gigi -- but not this time. I wouldn't have had a big enough lamp the space.

I love this idea a lot Beb....... the fiert sunflower with lampshade made me chuckle a lot when looking at it but it is so original I couldnt of thought of it.... looking back I can REALLY see where the idea comes from. I had a sort of similar thing with the Shooting star.

It not actually being Lisa drawn, someone looking at it would immediately get it.

Looking at caspers reply i do find myself reading his post and getting a similar feeling. Added to the fact that Lisa herself is a delicate flower it really is a charming, well drawn and amusing set of pictures.

Lol... We should all chip in and buy beb a large standing lamp with a shade... you then have to take a photo of yourself standing next to a "built" Lisa Wink We could pass the lamp round the members and each add our own take on it.... ok now i'm rambling....

I would really love to see you sitting cross legged in front of that Smile

Sorry for the late reply but I couldnt miss replying to this, really home to see some similar ideas too!

Carl!

Huh... that sure is different. Very cute idea, very clean and accurate drawing... I could say more, but I'm too tired to try and find the words right now.

Funny. o_O
