CC... I really wish you the best of luck. I am behind you and if you need to talk about it or let fustration out lemme know. It is something I am passionate about as my Dad passed away as smoking was a huge factor, he was warned not to and gave up, but stress got to him and he started again and the rest is history. I have never got into the habit myself (i did try it but thankfully i ended up ill and didnt take it up). So feel free to just post me any rant, insult, to my PM or yahoo, AIM or MSN if it helps you to. I am willing to be your punchbag Good luck!

That's some familiar territory, Serge. I tried last summer but couldn't manage to come up empty handed. My other grandmother passed 3 years ago from lung cancer, she was a smoker. Fortunately, my mother quit a long time ago so I can look forward to surprising her with two things today, assuming the interview goes well. *smacks Carl* Nah, just kidding! I know better... you'll probably wake up tommorow to a PM box full of paranoid ranting about demon clowns trying to eat me... Can't sleep...clown'll...

Wow, good luck Roger, really hope you make it, I'm sure you can! I can't imagen how hard it must be to quit...I've never smoked personally since, well, just never been tempted I guess...plus I'm asthmatic so, that's just one reason that's put me off starting ^_^; Again, good luck, respect you a lot for trying and I'm sure you can do it! Try all you can not to give in, 'cos then you won't have to go through the whole "quitting" stages again, as Serge has mentioned, At the end of the day, it shall all be worth it

CalculatedChaos I wish you good luck! My father was a smoker and he tell me how hard it was to quit. But it's possible and it's good both for health and economical reasons.

It's at 36 hours about now (midnight) and I haven't cracked...at least not physically. I got a surprise today when a buddy I'd told about it dropped by with a care package. Specifically a 110 piece box of nicotine gum. Gawd that stuff is awful... He also gave me a pep talk that amounted to a swift kick in the arse for not doing this sooner. I shall keep you all posted on my progress and all the support means more to me than words can express! *hugs*

That's something very hard to do for a friend, but it's also one of the most effective methods. Glad you had a buddy to support you near you! And keep being strong

The thing about this friend is; he's been prescribed EVERY controlled substance currently known to man. You name it: Cocaine, Heroin, Methamphetamines, uppers, downers, the works. All in pursuit of treatment for his long list of medical problems. I suppose it bears mentioning that this friend, Paul, is a legally blind tetraplegic (4 limbs and half his face are paralyzed to some degree). A few years back he hooked himself on nicotine to prove to a girlfriend that it was possible to quit.

I can't imagine a better person to have on my side during this! Lisa's a close 2nd, though. There's NO arguing with him. What would I say? It's too hard? He'd rip me a new one for being so weak. I think it's going to stick this time, I don't have a choice. There's nothing scarier than a blind guy carrying a fully functional samurai sword and the technical proficiency to use it. Afraid the clowns'll eat me? Nope, I fear the: *squeak squeak squeak*
Oh, yeah, here's a picture of us taken last year on webcam.

Nicotine Gum negative side effect #1- Really screwed up dreams...seriously. Bleh...
One method of negative peer pressure that seems to work is using the British idiom for cigarettes. This leads to some awkward conversations to have people walk in on.

Hold on, CC! We're here with too. I never smoked, agreed, but believe me, when people around me started to smoke and i even couldn't leave my workplace (at previous work) that was nothing but really crappy. So if you trying to eradicate this habit that means for me... the 'death' of another smoker, the destructor of other's health! ^_^ So, please, continue your struggle, i'm with you too.
