I've decided to post this here because it's the issue that's been bugging my mind for quite some time. I'd appreciate it if you expressed your opinion on the matter, friends:-)

After many long hours of listening  to love songs, watching romantic movies and reading romantic books I noticed a strange thing. Young men in love depressingly often promise some real crazy things to their fiancees, like to destroy the whole world or to kill millions of people, "just to see you smile, my love". Comic Book Guy even promised to kill children on thousands of planets to please Edna Krabappel in that " My Big Fat Geek Wedding" episode.
This makes me wonder, you know. If a man is to kill a million people to be accepted  by the woman of his heart, all the human race must perish just to let six thousand couples marry and bear six to eighteen thousand children. What a waste:-(
So, I'd like to address this question to the ladies. Are you really happy about all those atrocities committed to your pleasure? Because if you aren't, there's a good chance to say that here and save a million or two of innocent souls:-)

Well, I already mentioned my pacifistic attitude in another thread, so I can only state that I can't imagine how killing someone would bring you closer to the woman of your heart. And if she'd appreciate that, she must be pure evil...

Those are just sayings. Ofcourse they won't kill a million people. It's just a way to express love with words that go beyond "I love you very much". Although talking about killing people doesn't really seem appealing to me... Tongue

i cant say I have used that line either on a woman....... too barbaric, i tend to do it the Geeks way.... and that is another story Wink

I see the point of the phrase, telling her basically you would do anything for her....... though it may be better saying "I will kill all the supermodels in the world" she probably would love you for that heh heh.

Homer: "I did it for you, Marge.  I'd kill for you.  Please ask me to kill for you..."

That's the spirit!
It seems that violent selfish lazy guys  are describing their deep fantasies, which they know shivering women will refuse anyway. I suppose the only couple in "The Simpsons", who could promise that for serious - Sideshow Bob and Francesca. Other cases just for get her "awww" and then get her. Of course, Lisa wouldn't appreciate that. But many women in Springfield are lonely and any signs of adoration will be great for them, even that silly words Smile In Marge's case it's different reason - this promise is needed for Homer, not Marge. He wants to hear "Oh, Hommie, I love you even when you're fat, lazy and stupid, and I will be with you and I need no proves".  And he uses it (or sometimes he does some weird things). Remember that school orchestra in her closet - she was so impressed by... ahem... I don't know how to call his behaviour, but I feel sorry for poor kids.
Also, when Lisa fall in love with Nelson. At first she was impressed by his person. Although, later even his song about dead teacher make her angry. But with Colin, she was so much in love, that I suppose if he promised her to kill some bad guys, she wouldn't be angry, only would listen to this as to meaningless romantic bullshit.
So, you'll never know how would any girl, even the smartest one, respond to that.

But killing means you're "ready" to do thing, you can't change later. And I suppose the thing is - if you're "ready" to do something, that changes you and that you can't cancel later, that's really a high price to pay for woman's attention. So, such things sounds romantic, you know, although I doubt I want to hear about killings for me Smile

There are too many people already who do good deeds for free. We call them... Heroes Big Grin If you want to attract your girl's attention on the background of all that endless heroism, you have to think of something original Wink but all those are just sayings, I believe. Noone would kill a child for the sake of love, unless he's insane. Murderers are always being driven by hate, not love. So those are just fervent words IMHO.

You know, I tried that stuff myself once. I promised my girl to drown a thousand kittens in her honour, but she wasn't really happy about that. I wonder if a thousand just wasn't enough:-(

Homer: "I did it for you, Marge.  I'd kill for you.  Please ask me to kill for you..."
It just came to my mind he was just looking for an excuse, so that when he's on trial he can just  claim that he's in love and that he did it for her, and all the jurors go "Awww!" and send him to madhouse instead of sentencing him to death:-)

Shortly said, i don't think love is worth killing, and all those things that can be read/seen in movies are deeply exagerated imho. Smile People love to hear or read such impervious romantic words in fables and stories of drama and tragedy, but let's face it... in the real world, love assumes a lot of rational sides to it... i don't think i would say "i'd kill for you". It would be just saying in easy words what can be so difficult to do with actions.
On this note, i'm translating (the rhymes are lost, sorry) and posting a beautiful italian song.... i think it fits this theme a lot.

I won't climb mountains for you
And i won't walk accross deserts:
And there are little chances
That i'd swim through oceans, only to see you...
I won't light up a city
I won't write your name in the sky,
I won't take down any star for you...
For you I won't fight neither dragons,
neither windimills, or hell's demons...
no, i won't do anything of this for you.

For you i'll sell myself,
For you i'll be a baffoon,
I will take the blame
even though i'm in the right.
i'll hang up my violin
to a star that only you know
So that only you,
only you will play it;
I'll be your lady girl,
dressed in pink velvet,
ancient like a painting
pretty, high, a lil strungup
The sparrow that by evenings
dances on your knees
I will be the hero of the dreams
that no one dreamt yet.

Because for you i'll fight
an army of idraulics
neighbours, dentists, idiots, store clerks,
i'll cover myself in boredom's wounds
the ones that no one sees
and that never bleed,
for you.. for you...
For you i will tell lies
swearing on my mother's grave
and i will clean windshields
at the corners of the street;
i will rip out my wings
and rent them to a store,
because flying alone
was always just an illusion.

Great lyric, Marco, especially the last part.

You know, I tried that stuff myself once. I promised my girl to drown a thousand kittens in her honour!
You monster!

I would kill people for love... but not innocent kittens... KITTIES!!!  Sad Love Smile

Well, to say something useful: The statement that I would kill for the one I love is just a description of the fact, that I would do anything for her. Of cause, I would never try to *get* a women with the saying "I would kill for you"... but I would say "I would die for you" instead, what is aslo a fact.

Some people here trying to be very objectiv about this thing, but I know, If you would have ever fall in real love or if you were in absolutly deep love right now OR if you were in a hopeless, sad love, you would do such things. It is inhuman and cruel, but it is love... itīs irrational.

But what if one of those people you kill, would be Crazy Cat Lady? Much more kittens will die this way...

Ignore the sims video it comes with. It's basically Marco's song, but more purile. Perhaps written with someone like Homer in mind Big Grin

Anyway, on with the thread

Hahaha guys, I would not recommend using that line on a girl.  Big Grin
I would never do this, except in an emergency of course.  Even then, I'd hope I wouldn't kill anyone.

Well, you could be looking at it from two angles. One; it could be flattering in a dark, horrific way, or two; it could be a tad scary and make you feel pretty un-comfortable... or VERY scared and un-comfortable.
I am being reminded of a bread commercial every time I see this thread.

"I don't love you much do I?
Just more than all the start in the sky."

Don't ask me why, it just comes up.  Confused
