Though I'm not keen on Guns & Roses, I have tried playing that song on guitar and its not as hard as the intro might suggest, though there is a difference between 'playing it' and 'playing it well'...

I find this a very emotional track. And the background thunder at the beginning and end is very haunting. Seal's voice is amazing in this track. Lyrics mean a lot to me on this track.

I've been listening to this song a lot tonight, and I think this is a number that deserves posting here.

You know, of all the musicians I enjoy listening to, I'd have to say that Eric Clapton is probably the one I look up to the most - yeah, David Gilmour is a great guitarist, and Roger Waters writes excellent lyrics, but with all that Clapton's been through in his life, it's a testament to his strong will that he's still going forward. For one, he never knew his father - and didn't find out where he was until long after he was gone. Breaking his addiction to heroine and alcohol in the 70's, going through numerous failed relationships, and all compounded by the death of his four year old son Conor in 1992. People have killed themselves for much more insignificant reasons - going through such trials in life and emerging stronger, as Clapton has, is a testament to a person's strength of character.

This song expresses some of the grief caused by his father's death, and the loss of his son.

So I haven't had much of an opportunity to read this thread but from what I have seen, my songs will fit right in.

For years I have been a fan of the artist, Peter Gabriel. If you aren't familiar with him he was the original singer in the band Genesis, after Phil Collins took over the singing Peter left to pursue his own brand of music (It can't even really be classified as Prog) and I simply fall into a daze everytime I toss on one of his CD's. Here are a few of my favorite songs, they mean alot to me and the first one in particular has gotten me through some rough days.

Dreaded Double Post!

Now that I think about it, the song I posted "I Grieve" is acually the one they played during the episode of Smallville where

Clark's father, Jonathan dies.
(Sorry, don't know if everyone has seen it, it's not a huge spoiler. But when I watched that episode and realized what was happening and just exactly what was choosen to accompany it... I broke down in tears at the sheer emotion involved. My father did too, as he is the one who introduced me to it in the first place.

This one is simply beautiful with the piano accompaniment. And the mention of 'stranded starfish' in the first few lines puts me in the mind of Lisa everytime I hear it.

We trained that middle choir for weeks and managed to be able to sing it quite good. I had the solo part that went "I'm just a poor boy nobody loves me" Big Grin
