* Casper points at thread title Well? I always thought it was in... AMERICA! Has to be somewhere northern, for the snow, and in my opinion, must be near a source of Irish people... New York. But since I dont know whats beyond my own backyard I aint got a clue about the states. Any thoughts?

In the commentary for 8F01 - Mr. Lisa Goes to Washington, the map (on the screen) mentions the state as NT, David Silverman then says it to be North Tacoma when he releases it in press conferences. But it hasn't been officially revealed on the show.
And of course, North Tacoma is a fictional state.

I intended this thread to involve a bit more conversation, but there you go. Does anybody have any *thoughts* about it? Look at clues from episodes, things people say, places they visit and the means of transport... I had more idea's but, I forgot the episode name where Homer has lots of clones. There was a map digitaly drawn on a screen, and Homers head appears from 5 places, so its narrowed down to roughly 5 states. If anyone has a screen shot of that, I'd be most pleased.

Well, Springfield could be anywhere, in the Couch Gag of FABF08 - The Ziff Who Came to Dinner, it was shown as if it were in Illinois.

Heh! This is the age old question that fans have been asking for years! I seem to remember seeing a website that had made a pretty comprehensive job at narrowing it down by eliminating various states based on evidence from the show. I can't remember what they ended up with though! I always got a Pacific Northwest vibe from Springfield what with the mountains and the coastal location, which ties in with Matt Groening who's from up that way. Of course theres a lot of stuff this doesn't tie in with too! Me, I think Springfield is in the state of mind...

I can't really think of any references, although a few episodes had me scratching my head: First of all, in "Summer of 4 ft. 2" when the family leaves the beach, Homer tells them to "Take a last look at the beautiful ocean scenery". This, and their considerably long trip to Flanders' beach house hint at the fact that they don't leave near the ocean. But then, in the episode "My Sister, My Sitter" there is mentioned that a new harbor is going to be opened in Springfield... maybe I misinterpreted somethings, but this and other things in the episode hint at the fact that they are beside an ocean. Help!

Well, my resources are from the book "the Simpsons: Beyond Forever" and the episode "Behind the Laughter" They live in Kentucky. If you look at a United States atlas and look up Kentucky, there's a Springfield. But, I'm not sure on your thoughts. Try looking up part 3/3 of "Behind the Laughter" on YouTube.

In one episode, Lisa said that west springfield was 3 times the size of texas, which if anything, is probably a boundary the town tried to make, but was shot down by the rest of the USA, and Springfield was so stubborn, they kept the boundary in the town records anyway. That's just a theory, though. Anyway, yes, agree that Springfield would be somewhere on the east coast.

If you watch the trailer of the upcoming movie, there's a nice joke about it FLANDERS: Would you look at that, you can see the four states that border Springfield Ohio, Nevada, Maine, and Kentucky. Well, my resources are from the book "the Simpsons: Beyond Forever" and the episode "Behind the Laughter" They live in Kentucky. If you look at a United States atlas and look up Kentucky, there's a Springfield. But, I'm not sure on your thoughts. Going by what I just said, they don't live in Kentucky. I believe that Springfield is set in the fictional state of North Tacoma. As said by David Silverman in the 8F01 audio commentary, especially since on the map on the screen says NT.
