This is part of a story that I am working on. It is written in the style of newspaper and magazine articles. It set in the late 23rd Century. It is, one part satire and one part serious. Enjoy.

In 2288, Chancellor Lewis Baxter was tried and convicted of war crimes commited against Fa'Daar prisoners of war during his 12 year tenure as Galactic Chancellor.
From 2276 to 2289, Baxter rounded up no less than 40,000 Fa'Daar who were granted asylum on Earth during the Mulderian Civil War by Baxter's predesessor,Herbert Zalansky . The Geneva Comission, the human and sentient rights authority, found no less then 73 violations of the 2094 Sentient Rights Act. All were outlined in a 500 page report on Baxter's dealings from when he was elected in 2275 till his inpeachment in 2287.

They include:

Illegal weapons trading with known anti-alien terror groups such as Epsilon and Army of Terra in 2276.

Shooting down a ship thought to be a Fa'Daar warship but instead turned out to be a Grebzorgian civillian cruise-liner in the Mulphas System in 2278.

The kidnapping of a Zurbonian business student in Olypmpus City in the Martian Republic, believing him to have connections to alien terror group Del'Tuur in 2282.

Baxter is currently imprisoned in the Titan Penal Colony and faces a 50-year sentence. This is however, not definite as Baxter has an up coming parole hearing.

POLITICAL CRISIS ON PLANET GREBZORG WILL TURN INTO CIVIL WAR, SAYS EXPERT

By Rudlowe Spritz

Roscoe Neumeyer has lived on Grebzorg for the past ten years. In 2280 he started working at the Earth Embassy in Fandaar City. He and his wife Greta live in Valknaarg, a suburbof the city, known for its rather large Human community. 'Me and the wife have lived here for years, this area has been given the nickname Alk Trogg or Little Earth by the locals. The main problem I think is the whole Trakaar Grebzak thing. This radical republican group has been trying to get rid of the Grebzorgian royal family for years. After King Grek Tragg III's statement on Saturday evening stating that he has no intention of handing over controll to the TG there was renewed bombing in the city, some close to Valknaarg. 'Clara Garretsen, who ran a small resturant not far from our home, moved out the other day. Just packed her bags and made for the starport. Her resturant is all borderd up now. Me and Greta used to go there for a coffee  morning. She's now living with her brother Naylor in San Francisco. My wife is saying that we might have to move soon. I hope not, I really
love this planet.'

Look at that hand lying there
The room is dark, she shows no fear
I'm lying still, my eyes are wide
My heart is pumping, I'm still alive

I'm still awake against my will
What will it ever take
To still this burning in me?

'Bringing you the News from across the galaxy since 2178'

Vanzo's View

'As the tenth anniversary of the Orion starliner crash approaches Vanzo Jones asks why havent we gotten answers yet'

March 12 2281, Like November 22 1963, September 11 2001 and August 1 2024, March 12 2281 is a day forever seared into the collective psyce of human civilization. Chancellor Stutengart is declearing this officialy 'Orion Memorial Week' how ever, for the families of those who lost their lives on that fateful day ten years ago, the Chancellor's words are just hollow rhetoric. It has been ten years since Orion 150 exploded above the skies above Johan Feldman Starport in Olympus City, and still we have no answers. The Martian Port Aurthority's official investigation into the crash, released on March 28 2281, listed that there was a 'strong likleyhood that the explotion was caused by the faulty FTL engines. This is however, inconclusive.' The report contained many qualifing words such as 'possibly' and 'not conclusive' in other words a 256-page report saying 'we dont know.' Is the only thing the MPA had to placate the breaved families of those lost. To say that the families were outraged at this would be to make the understatement of the century. At the time I called for a thourogh investigation into the crash by the Earth/Mars Liason Office, in this very coloumn in fact. This is, what should have happned in the first place, but the hand-wringing beraucrats at the Galactic Federation and the Geneva Comission said that this was a Martian affair and that the Earth- authorities had no business getting involved. Nevermind the fact that Earth citizens were among the dead, or that Orion was an Earth-based company. Why did the GalaFed not want to intervene?, because Mars had, for the past 20 years, been a goldmine for intersteller stock-jockeys wishing to take advantage of the recently signed trade agreement with Earth in 2279. Allied Starships, who makes the models for Orion Starliners, did not want troublesome invesigators bodgeing up their business deals. And Allied Starships has several investors, such as Lewis Baxter, the then Galactic Chancellor and Alvin Jameson, the Matian President at the time. Lewis Baxter is currently cooling his heels in the Titan Penal Colony, Alvin Jameson is now the owner of United Astrometrix, manufacturer of FTL engines and a major investor in, you guessed it- Allied Starships.

Interstellar Economic Focus

With
Magdalina Goldstien

If anybody tries to tell you that being in charge of a galaxy-spanning media channel is as easy as it looks then they are, quite simply, full of it. The head of the Subspace Broadcasting Network, Lucas DeMontfort is thinking of selling to the Grebzorgian broadcasting network, Thaagqeek.
Treal Valaark, the CEO of Thaagqeek (Grebzorgian for 'supreme power') is promising a 34 billion Credit deal with DeMontfort, to buy 50% of the SBN's stock. DuMontfort, who has been head of the network since the death of his predecessor, Stanley Freidman in 2284 has had numerous problems with the network what with having to compete with Parallex Broadcasting and with the huge ratings slump last year, with ratings hitting the lowest since the SBN was founded in 2162.
DuMontfort's galactic media empire is threatening to collapse all around him. With out a doubt, DuMontfort needs this Thaagqeeg deal very badly. Lets hope that poor Monty Boy manages to turn his bad luck around or this could be the final curtain call for the SBN.
