Could this somehow be related to the fact that I cannot even view the site if another member is logged on? For instance, the site doesn't exist to the southern hemisphere if a member from the northern hemispere is logged on?

What? That doesnt even make the slightest it of sense. If the sessions table is corrupted, no one can view the site period until Dag logs into phpMyAdmin and repairs it.

When that happens, you need to recache your browser, to force a recache, hit Ctrl+F5, it's not an issue to do with SMF.
