Hi there.

USB on most DV camera is not designed for full quality video transfer. It is more designed for still pictures and video clips, most cameras offer a poor quality clip though, mine does same when i try USB, mostly due to other devices using USB. Also some cameras offer a software mode switch between USB 1.1 and USB2, make sure if you have this that you use USB2. Some DV Cameras (even now) still use the much slower USB1.1 as thier USB interface for transfering basic small clips and photos.

S-Video is low quality and you need a video capture card built in to the machine with S-Video. Most machines which have S-Video are only an output to display the PC screen (poorly) on a TV.

I personally would only use a DV cable AKA Firewire or i-Link to transfer onto the PC. USB is shared bandwidth whereas Firewire is much faster for sustained transfers. The video picture is much easily transferred and higher quality. All you need is video capture software (which it looks like you are using to capture via usb).

On the camera side is the small 4 pin "i-Link" firewire connector.

On the PC you usually have the larger 6 pin connector:

Although laptops commonly could have either 4 pin or 6 pin. Desktops are mostly 6 pin if fitted.

If you do not have firewire then cards to fit into PCs are usually very cheap. for example PC World (where i work) did a firewire PC Line PCI card + cable for £14.99.

For laptops you would need either a PC Card (PCMCIA) or Express Card Firewire adapter. If you have one of these slots it is usually on the side of laptop.

PC Card:

Express Card:

*Note this is a dual Firewire 400 (right) and firewire 800 (left) card, most cameras and cards are 400.

Boring side note. Even though USB2 is up to 480Mbps and Firewire is up to 400Mbps in real world firewire way outperforms USB2 in most cases due to the way USB allocates resources to the attached devices.

I am a geek btw Big Grin - I repair computers for a living :>

Sorry to have to do this, but I'd rather ask a bunch of sensible, well manored and mature group of individuals, than an underqualified techie on the end of a very expensive phone call who's best answer is probably "Buy our premium package".

I've been having trouble getting footage from my miniDV video camera to the computer for well over 3 months. My guess is that the USB stream has become too slow for the video feed to keep up, therefore when its recorded to PC, its more like a picture slide-show with burbles of audio.

I've tried downloading different video capture software to no avail, so my last option was to skip the USB part all-together, and buy an S-Video cable which connects to the camera and the PC. Having gone out and bought one, I cant find the bloody thing on my various video capture softwares.

I know this isnt a 'video capture technical assistance forum' but, frankly I think if none of you brilliant people can help, the problem is unsolvable. Tongue

Note: Just to save any energy, I've checked for possible solutions online through Google etc, dont waste your time on me!

Note 2: This thread prolly doesnt belong in 'Forum Discussion' either, ack! Embarrassed

---

Going back to the corner where I first saw you,
Gonna camp in my sleeping bag I'm not gonna move,
Got some words on cardboard got your picture in my hand,
Saying if you see this girl can you tell her where I am,
Some try to hand me money they don't understand,
I'm not...broke I'm just a broken hearted man,
I know it makes no sense, but what else can I do,
How can I move on when I'm still in love with you...

Cos if one day you wake up and find that you're missing me,
And your heart starts to wonder where on this earth I can be,
Thinking maybe you'll come back here to the place that we'd meet,
And you'd see me waiting for you on the corner of the street.

So I'm not moving...
I'm not moving.

Policeman says son you can't stay here,
I said there's someone I'm waiting for if it's a day, a month, a year,
Gotta stand my ground even if it rains or snows,
If she changes her mind this is the first place she will go.

I'm not moving...
I'm not moving.

People talk about the guy
Who's waiting on a girl...
Ooh ooh
There are no holes in his shoes
But a big hole in his world...
Hmmmm

And maybe I'll get famous as man who can't be moved,
And maybe you won't mean to but you'll see me on the news,
And you'll come running to the corner...
Cos you'll know it's just for you

I'm the man who can't be moved
I'm the man who can't be moved...

I'm not moving...
I'm not moving.

Going back to the corner where I first saw you,
Gonna camp in my sleeping bag not I'm not gonna move.

Wow, sorry to hear that. Excellent comparison for us American viewers, Andreas. The show just wouldn't feel the same without the cast I'm used to...a tragic loss. Sad

This is quite a loss indeed - just imagine what would happen if Hank Azaria or Harry Shearer would pass away. But since you mentioned Seymour Skinner in the title, his German voice also died some years ago, only overshadowed by the death of Elisabeth Volkmann, the German voice of Marge, Patty and Selma. Many other characters have lost their original voice as well, such as Grampa (two or maybe even three times already), Barney Gumble, Jasper, Dr. Hibbert, Professor Frink, Reverend Lovejoy, Sideshow Mel, and probably some more.

And Loïc is correct. The point wasnt the simpson family but the chain of thinks which led to answer

Ok the chain of links:

Lisa Simpson > Grandmother is Mona Simpson > Named after writer Richard Appel's wife, who is the novelist Mona Simpson > Mona Simpson is Steve Jobs' Biological sister.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mona_Simpson_(The_Simpsons)

Add to the fact as mentioned earlier the Apple Lisa Wink

Ok anyone got any more link chains between characters or real life people, could make an interesting thread!

Okay, I have maybe one other link.

Steve Jobs biological parents have one daughter (Steve's little sister) named Mona. Her husband Richard Appel is a writer on the Simpsons show (here is the link in my opinion). According to Wikipedia, Appel used his wife's name for the name of Homer's mother (Lisa's grandmother).

It's not really a link between Lisa and Steve Jobs but it's a link between The Simpsons Family and Steve Jobs.

I've just heard that Michel Modo -a French actor- passed away two weeks ago. He wasn't very famous outside France and I'm not sure anybody on LTS have already heard about him. You're probably asking yourself why I'm posting about that here?
In fact, Michel Modo spent the last 20 years of his life making voices for movies and animated cartoons: he was a voice talent in The Simpsons Show (French Version).

Today, the French Simpson's community is in mourning, because Michel Modo was behind the voice of:
- Seymour Skinner
- Montgomery Burns
- Krusty
- Clancy Wiggum
- Julius Hibbert
- Marvin Monroe
- Kent Brockman
- Joe Quimby
- Sideshow Mel (Tahiti Mel in the French version)
- Sideshow Bob (Tahiti Bob in the French version)
- Jasper
- Gil
- Kirk Van Houten
- and some others...

This event came few weeks after French version's writers announce that there will quit the show at the end of Season 19. Without all of them, I don't know if the Simpsons' French version would be the same anymore...

Rest In Peace, Michel!

PS: I hope I'm in the right section.

Although I have never had the experience of uni (i buggered up my life so far lol) I can understand how uit feels to be away from what you know in a strange place without family and to be self sufficient.

I can imagine a lot of people feel the same but hide it behind a facade.

I am really glad to hear things coming together, I am sure you will start to have loads of fun in the courses and the uni life as a whole.

Rememer if you ever fwling under the weather and no-one to talk to I am sure many of us here will be here if a chat is needed, if you fancy a chat over MSN/AIM/Yahoo, also the chat rooms i done are open 24/7 too ( http://www.ejnmedia.co.uk/ltschat/ )and always feel free to muck about on the OC server, even if no-one else is on, just to doodle or just play about really, its open to all (jut ask for server details if not already got them.
