Title: Hosting Issues Post by: Dagdamor on December 27, 2006, 01:26 This forum can be down for about half an hour (hopefully not more) per day in next several days. This is because of the server maintenance, and since the server is located on the opposite side of the Earth for most of you (;)), and the maintenance appears to be at midnights... this can happen in the middle of the day. I apologise for any inconvenience. :)
Title: Re: Hosting Issues Post by: SimpReal on December 27, 2006, 09:21 /me runs to the fridge and steals all beers and Lisa cookies before the blackout happens
Title: Re: Hosting Issues Post by: Gazmanafc on December 27, 2006, 16:16 Where is the server? Mines in Dallas. :P
Title: Re: Hosting Issues Post by: Dagdamor on December 27, 2006, 16:22 Moscow :) We were hosted at DreamHost before, but it was very slow and/or buggy, so I decided to move.
Sometimes it's good to use several different servers. :p Title: Re: Hosting Issues Post by: Gazmanafc on December 27, 2006, 16:31 Heh. You know. I would love to have a server in my own bedroom.
Does a local webserver count? ;) Title: Re: Hosting Issues Post by: Dagdamor on December 27, 2006, 16:40 Nope, otherwise I'd say I have three - Apache 1.3, Apache 2 and Tomcat. :)
Having a server in your room can be annoying... imagine yourself waking up in the middle of the night just to stop another hacking attempt or to install another patch while most of your visitors are asleep. ;) Title: Re: Hosting Issues Post by: Gazmanafc on December 27, 2006, 16:41 The life of a Server Admin. :P hehe.
Title: Re: Hosting Issues Post by: Suusje on December 28, 2006, 19:57 Ah, we'll live... :p
@ Gary: Having a server in your bedroom sucks. They make a lot of noise most of the time. Especially when you want a cheap server. Buying decent silent stuff for a bedroom server isn't even worth it, unless you really use your server a lot. I use WAMP (http://www.wampserver.com/en/index.php) on my PC and laptop for testing and development purposes. It's a lot easier than having to install and configure Apache, PHP and MySQL all by yourself. :p Title: Re: Hosting Issues Post by: Andreas on December 28, 2006, 22:18 @ Gary: Having a server in your bedroom sucks. Agreed. I built a rather silent PC myself, and it's almost inaudible over the day, i. e. when I'm listening to music or something like this (I always listen to music the whole day ;) ). But even if I'm able to sleep with it switched on, it's getting annoying, and I don't sleep very well with that buzzing sound. If I had a server, I'd place it in another room at least.Title: Re: Hosting Issues Post by: Gazmanafc on December 29, 2006, 15:02 I use WAMP (http://www.wampserver.com/en/index.php) on my PC and laptop for testing and development purposes. It's a lot easier than having to install and configure Apache, PHP and MySQL all by yourself. :p I have XAMPP, which is similiar to your thing, Apache, PHP, MySQL and it also came with phpMyAdmin configured, all I had to do was install SMF. :P Title: Re: Hosting Issues Post by: Dagdamor on December 31, 2006, 17:14 D'oh!
Okay, this issue was just terrible. The forum was down for half the day because of those stupid maintenances :( And it happened right in the New Year night - still cannot believe my luck. The server is still down, though, so I've temporarily moved everything to the previous hosting until they fix that. If you can see this message, then the correct DNS is already propagated for you. I just hope this happened before the midnight on your side... and the attachments still aren't available until I reupload them all. I'm really sorry about all that, guys! :'( That's not how I wanted to meet the New Year, honestly... Title: Re: Hosting Issues Post by: janglewolf on December 31, 2006, 17:26 Aw...no need to apologise, these things happen! Anyway, as you can see it's working for me now and there's still about 6 and half hours before the new year here in the UK!
Anyway, I'll say Happy New Year as some of us will already be in it and given the high winds we're getting over here at the moment and the fact that the electricity supply in my area is a bit sensitive, I can't guarantee I'll be online come midnight. :) Title: Re: Hosting Issues Post by: Casper on December 31, 2006, 22:08 Dont worry Serge :)
To be honest, I'm sure most people will be with their families on this occasion. My family just happens to be online ;) (I need to get drunk, and a life... aye aye aye....) Title: Re: Hosting Issues Post by: Andreas on January 01, 2007, 00:41 Well, right now, I am drunk (sort of), so no worries indeed. ;) It's not your fault that the hosting companies are acting up, and hey, we can live a day or two without the forum, can't we? Thanks for all the extra effort, much appreciated. :)
Title: Re: Hosting Issues Post by: Dagdamor on January 01, 2007, 02:17 Thanks people... to be honest, I was really depressed about that. Maybe it's not a big thing after all.
But I'm glad the forum is alive again... Title: Re: Hosting Issues Post by: laguna sky on January 01, 2007, 06:29 Time will slow some people down on this site, but I don't believe that a few hosting issues will stop this site from flourishing.
Title: Re: Hosting Issues Post by: Dagdamor on January 24, 2007, 10:15 I'm moving LTS to another hosting again... DreamHost works extremely slow
And since that new server worked well for all that time, I believe it will be the better choice. Hopefully, I'll do all the needed stuff today. DSL rules :p Update: Done. If you can see this line, you see the forum on the new location. :) Title: Re: Hosting Issues Post by: SimpReal on January 25, 2007, 20:07 Good job! And thanks, it's way faster now :)
Title: Re: Hosting Issues Post by: Dagdamor on March 24, 2007, 08:35 LTS can be down today for several hours. Some kind of a maintenance is planned in the data centre. Sorry :)
*makes forum database backup and synchronizes the attachments folder* Title: Re: Hosting Issues Post by: Dagdamor on April 24, 2007, 10:24 Aaand another issue. LTS was down for several hours today. :red:
If anyone's interested in the details, the server ran out of free space, so several files (configuration ones mainly) have truncated to zero, and database experienced problems too  Hopefully, nothing has lost. /me hugs server :p Title: Re: Hosting Issues Post by: Suusje on April 24, 2007, 10:28 That sounds kind of unprofessional. :p
Title: Re: Hosting Issues Post by: Casper on April 24, 2007, 12:52 I had just pressed the post button to a lengthy review before it went... oppsie.
* Casper blames hiself before blaming society's increase in flat footed shoe marketing campaigns. Ah well, got the system back quick enough. Good call Sergei! Title: Re: Hosting Issues Post by: Dagdamor on April 24, 2007, 21:25 Casper
So, you've lost it after all? Damn :( I'm sorry about that... People, please use decent browsers, not Internet Explorer which doesn't even allow you to go back to the previous page and to save your post somewhere else in such situations! I'm personally using Opera (http://www.opera.com/). There is no other way to avoid things like that. I'm not talking about your security in the Net, which is awful if you use IE. Title: Re: Hosting Issues Post by: G.H. on April 24, 2007, 23:46 Well currently I am using Mozilla Firefox. It's more secure than IE, yeah, although at times it freezes up and I have to restart the program... which can be bad news if you're in the middle of a post. Other than that though, it works fine.
Title: Re: Hosting Issues Post by: SimpReal on April 25, 2007, 14:46 I, personally, write long posts in notepad, with calm, even dividing in more parts of the day :) then i open the forum and copy/paste. It's by far the safest method :D
Title: Re: Hosting Issues Post by: janglewolf on April 25, 2007, 18:20 Yep, that's a very good idea. If I've written a long post online, I'll tend to select and copy the text before I hit the post button as at least I've got a chance of being able to re-paste what I've written if things do go wrong. Mind you, with Firefox you can usually get back to the previous screen so this doesn't tend to be too much of a problem.
Title: Re: Hosting Issues Post by: G.H. on April 25, 2007, 23:42 SimpReal
Heh, I hadn't even thought of that... perhaps I should start doing that. janglewolf Usually when my browser freezes, my only option is to end it. I get the "Program Not Responding" message. Do you use Firefox? And if so, do you encounter these problems at all? Title: Re: Hosting Issues Post by: Casper on April 26, 2007, 13:35 I use Internet Explo..! *stabbed*
It works fine with me, as long as I dont press back. I just pressed the post button then it said 'Page Couldnt be Found!' or some, bollocks. Anyway, doesnt matter now, will post it again later! Title: Re: Hosting Issues Post by: Dagdamor on June 03, 2007, 18:01 Same thing, once again.
The server was down for several hours (most of the day actually), so I temporarily moved everything to another hosting. Right now our Shrine or Lisaness seems to work again. :) As soon as the problem is fixed and the original server goes back up, I'll move everything back. Now, let's post! :D /me is very glad to see LTS online again Title: Re: Hosting Issues Post by: SimpReal on June 03, 2007, 20:04 Yay, Welcome back to LTS, and thanks for the nice patch-up work you do everytime, Serge! :)
Title: Re: Hosting Issues Post by: G.H. on June 03, 2007, 21:04 Cheers and welcome back to the land of the living, LTS! :)
/me raises a wine glass Title: Re: Hosting Issues Post by: Dagdamor on June 06, 2007, 07:40 SimpReal
Thanks :) Everyone Since the original server seems to work alright now, I'm moving everything back today. The forum can be down for some time, although I'll try to make it smooth. UPDATE: All done. :) Title: Re: Hosting Issues Post by: Dagdamor on November 11, 2007, 21:18 LTS has experienced strong problems today, again... something happened with the datacenter channel. I'm not sure this won't happen again, but hopefully, it's all good now.
Thankfully, the chatroom is on the different server :p Code: <MPfreeUK> mebbe lisa getting to tired of hugs so takes it offline to have a rest heh heh <Suusje> Lisa-simpson.net also turned into a "beautiful young woman" :P <@Dagdamor> really? <Suusje> Bart said that to Lisa when she was turned into a snail <@Dagdamor> really, it's slow :D lol * @Dagdamor is slow too <MPfreeUK> lol Title: Re: Hosting Issues Post by: Andreas on November 11, 2007, 21:48 Yeah, I noticed it, but apparently, no damage was done.
LOL @ the chat log. :D Title: Re: Hosting Issues Post by: Gazmanafc on November 11, 2007, 22:21 Title: Re: Hosting Issues Post by: Empethree on November 11, 2007, 22:50 Remember to bookmark the alternate chat address irc.springfield.ru, this will also get you onto the same server if the lisa-simpson.net domain is not working. join the same way - "/join #lts"
If you like i can put up an alternative web chat address dag... Title: Re: Hosting Issues Post by: Dagdamor on November 18, 2007, 05:50 Empethree
Thanks, but even if our hosting will be down, the domain name should still work. So it's not really necessary (especially if we will consider switching to another IRC server in the future, who knows...) Speaking of LTS hosting... argle, it was partially down today, again. I chatted with the server's owner, and he explained that it's not his fault - somebody keeps overloading the datacenter channel. The only solution will be to move the server to another datacenter, and he's going to do that soon. Prepare for some more slowness/unavailability... /me is ashamed for being unable to provide a decent hosting for LTS :( Title: Re: Hosting Issues Post by: Empethree on November 18, 2007, 09:28 Not to worry Dag, you do a fine job........ Even Lisa needs her rest now and again from the hugs heh heh :)
But if you ever do need anything... i have lots of resources atm just ask ;) ..except for cake..... the cake is mine :> Title: Re: Hosting Issues Post by: Dagdamor on November 18, 2007, 11:50 Empethree
Quote ..except for cake..... the cake is mine :> *LOL* :DThanks for the nice words... and I once again warn you that most likely, LTS will be unavailable in next several hours. Sorry in advance. And above the move to another datacenter - maybe it will happen quite soon, I'm not sure yet, but I will try to convince the hoster to not to delay with it. Title: Re: Hosting Issues Post by: SimpReal on November 18, 2007, 12:35 /me hugs LTS a lot of times to make sure he will not be in debt when the downtime happens :p
