This forum can be down for about half an hour (hopefully not more) per day in next several days. This is because of the server maintenance, and since the server is located on the opposite side of the Earth for most of you (;)), and the maintenance appears to be at midnights... this can happen in the middle of the day. I apologise for any inconvenience. :)

Moscow :) We were hosted at DreamHost before, but it was very slow and/or buggy, so I decided to move.
Sometimes it's good to use several different servers. :p

Nope, otherwise I'd say I have three - Apache 1.3, Apache 2 and Tomcat. :)
Having a server in your room can be annoying... imagine yourself waking up in the middle of the night just to stop another hacking attempt or to install another patch while most of your visitors are asleep. ;)

@ Gary: Having a server in your bedroom sucks. They make a lot of noise most of the time. Especially when you want a cheap server. Buying decent silent stuff for a bedroom server isn't even worth it, unless you really use your server a lot.

I use WAMP (http://www.wampserver.com/en/index.php) on my PC and laptop for testing and development purposes. It's a lot easier than having to install and configure Apache, PHP and MySQL all by yourself. :p

Agreed. I built a rather silent PC myself, and it's almost inaudible over the day, i. e. when I'm listening to music or something like this (I always listen to music the whole day ;) ). But even if I'm able to sleep with it switched on, it's getting annoying, and I don't sleep very well with that buzzing sound. If I had a server, I'd place it in another room at least.

I have XAMPP, which is similiar to your thing, Apache, PHP, MySQL and it also came with phpMyAdmin configured, all I had to do was install SMF. :P

Okay, this issue was just terrible. The forum was down for half the day because of those stupid maintenances :(
And it happened right in the New Year night - still cannot believe my luck. The server is still down, though, so I've temporarily moved everything to the previous hosting until they fix that. If you can see this message, then the correct DNS is already propagated for you. I just hope this happened before the midnight on your side... and the attachments still aren't available until I reupload them all.

I'm really sorry about all that, guys! :'( That's not how I wanted to meet the New Year, honestly...

Aw...no need to apologise, these things happen!   Anyway, as you can see it's working for me now and there's still about 6 and half hours before the new year here in the UK!
Anyway, I'll say Happy New Year as some of us will already be in it and given the high winds we're getting over here at the moment and the fact that the electricity supply in my area is a bit sensitive, I can't guarantee I'll be online come midnight.  :)

Well, right now, I am drunk (sort of), so no worries indeed. ;) It's not your fault that the hosting companies are acting up, and hey, we can live a day or two without the forum, can't we? Thanks for all the extra effort, much appreciated. :)

Time will slow some people down on this site, but I don't believe that a few hosting issues will stop this site from flourishing.

I'm moving LTS to another hosting again... DreamHost works extremely slow :confused:
And since that new server worked well for all that time, I believe it will be the better choice.
Hopefully, I'll do all the needed stuff today. DSL rules :p

LTS can be down today for several hours. Some kind of a maintenance is planned in the data centre. Sorry :)

If anyone's interested in the details, the server ran out of free space, so several files (configuration ones mainly) have truncated to zero, and database experienced problems too :rolleyes: Hopefully, nothing has lost.

People, please use decent browsers, not Internet Explorer which doesn't even allow you to go back to the previous page and to save your post somewhere else in such situations! I'm personally using Opera (http://www.opera.com/). There is no other way to avoid things like that. I'm not talking about your security in the Net, which is awful if you use IE.

Well currently I am using Mozilla Firefox. It's more secure than IE, yeah, although at times it freezes up and I have to restart the program... which can be bad news if you're in the middle of a post. Other than that though, it works fine.

I, personally, write long posts in notepad, with calm, even dividing in more parts of the day :) then i open the forum and copy/paste. It's by far the safest method :D

Yep, that's a very good idea.   If I've written a long post online, I'll tend to select and copy the text before I hit the post button as at least I've got a chance of being able to re-paste what I've written if things do go wrong.   Mind you, with Firefox you can usually get back to the previous screen so this doesn't tend to be too much of a problem.

Usually when my browser freezes, my only option is to end it. I get the "Program Not Responding" message. Do you use Firefox? And if so, do you encounter these problems at all?

It works fine with me, as long as I dont press back. I just pressed the post button then it said 'Page Couldnt be Found!' or some, bollocks. Anyway, doesnt matter now, will post it again later!

The server was down for several hours (most of the day actually), so I temporarily moved everything to another hosting. Right now our Shrine or Lisaness seems to work again. :) As soon as the problem is fixed and the original server goes back up, I'll move everything back.
Now, let's post! :D

Since the original server seems to work alright now, I'm moving everything back today.
The forum can be down for some time, although I'll try to make it smooth.
UPDATE: All done. :)

LTS has experienced strong problems today, again... something happened with the datacenter channel. I'm not sure this won't happen again, but hopefully, it's all good now.

Thankfully, the chatroom is on the different server :p

Thanks, but even if our hosting will be down, the domain name should still work. So it's not really necessary (especially if we will consider switching to another IRC server in the future, who knows...)

Speaking of LTS hosting... argle, it was partially down today, again. I chatted with the server's owner, and he explained that it's not his fault - somebody keeps overloading the datacenter channel. The only solution will be to move the server to another datacenter, and he's going to do that soon. Prepare for some more slowness/unavailability...

Thanks for the nice words... and I once again warn you that most likely, LTS will be unavailable in next several hours. Sorry in advance. And above the move to another datacenter - maybe it will happen quite soon, I'm not sure yet, but I will try to convince the hoster to not to delay with it.
