Title: Raven's art
Post by: Black_raven on December 24, 2006, 22:54
Well, I will post more art on here in the future just, I'ld like to start this off with something I did quickly in Opencanvas

Now it did start off as a practise for expressions but turned into Homer in a Santa suit...so now he looks sneaky and like in "'Tis the 15th season"

Sooo..Hope y'all like :)
and that everyone here has a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year*hugles all*
Just hold back on the Simpson cookies  :gigi:

Not bad. Your style is always interesting. "Pencil-ish" would vaugely desribe it.

Opencanvas rules :p This one looks very good.
Great job Rachel! As always, your pics are very emotional and colorful. Me likes!
And Merry Christmas to you too :)

Nice picture. Homer looks very 'sneaky' on it :p

HOMER (screams): Nobody will found out that I took the donuts! ... D'oh! :homer:

Merry christmas!

Funny you should say that, overall my best and fav medium to use is pencil ;)

Nice picture. Homer looks very 'sneaky' on it :p

Hehe :p

Anyway thanks all and hope you all had a great Christmas :)

Nise pic! Most of all I like the Homer's expression, that ridiculous and sly face. I like your style of drawing in all, it's very interesting; I saw some your other works. All of them leave good impression. :) There's a lot of green colour in your pics, that's one of my favourite too.

Thanks Yggdraill :)
Well, I admit I havn't been able to draw much recently but it's occured to me that there's some art people still havn't seen from me that's allready on my computer :)
So I will add a few pics for now

1) Well, this is the full version of my display pic..Just a simple Deviantart ID pic :)

2) This is what shall hopefully be my final composition in art this year. This is the pencil version though which took me ages :p But I will however proberbly paint the final thing on canvas or something :) and yes that's me, a weird self-portait I know but I was looking at scarfs and folds, clothed figures etc

3) Just a quick sketch of Zazu that is proberbly the best pic I've ever drawn of him as I'm more for drawing the lions most of the time  :gigi:

4)Okay I acturaly did this way back in summer but still proud of it. Though,..looking back I know Mufusa is a little bit off but I am proud with Sarabi ^_^

5) Err...well...just a very, very detailed pic I drew with pen during English...That's all...

(EDIT: Any problems with the images have now been sorted :) )

Title: Re: Raven's art

Wow. Those are some VERY detailed drawings. I can see that as usual, you put a lot of effort into these. Congrats on another great set of drawings!

Title: Re: Raven's art
Post by: Dagdamor on January 01, 2007, 23:27
These pictures are sweet! If I wasn't such a Lisa obsessed nut, I'd definitely try to draw something like that, too, just to follow your example... the Simpsonized version of yourself is great, finally I know where's your avatar is from ;) Timon sitting on your shoulder is also a nice touch.

Self portrait - aww... I can only say that you're looking so nice. :) Great job.

ZAZU, "Mufusa and Sarabi", "Detailed to extream" - all three pictures are good! Especially the last one... reminds me of the style that is used sometimes for book illustrations... and I respect it a lot, even if it's not colored. Black and white pictures sometimes look better than the colored ones. *LOL* at the Nala's ear biting, btw. ;) All three pictures have great shading, and all in different way.

So there. No con-crit, your level is too above my own. :p Also sorry if I messed up with names somewhere... I used to like "Lion King" a lot, but didn't watch it for many years.

  Very nice pics.
self-portait is remarkable !! especially after shading.

-claps- Well done.
I've always admired your stuff, since it looks so crisp and really neat.
Three cheers for Raven and OpenCanvas.  :D

Title: Re: Raven's art
Post by: Casper on January 03, 2007, 13:29
I've already said this to you before but, damn you can draw ;)
AND you can use water colour paints and I cant... but thats another subject :p

I love 'Detailed to the Extream', its just so cute, especialy the Lioness. Looks almost huggable! But she'd probably bite...   ;)

Your self portrait is very well done too, I gotta stress how well you've actualy done that... I cant draw my own hand. (doh!)
Muffy and Sarabi look cute together too :) Very authenticaly coloured. Though as you probably know, Muffy's stomach starts a little low, looks like he's gained weight to me but its probably because I dont know what I'm talking about. This is TLK not Simpsons. :p

EDIT: And we're back! Where was I...

IDme is cool too, I love the simpsons style and how well you've applied it to yourself. Very well done :) And Zazu ofcourse is on model, nice pose too, very British :p

Overall, good work Rach :) Maybe more colour but, I'm not about to interupt your exam revision for it ;)

Title: Re: Raven's art
Post by: Black_raven on January 03, 2007, 17:25
Thank you all for the feedback :)

Dagdamor, don't worry about mistaking any lion king characters, but you got most of the characters right there ;) , however, I will make it clear now, the lion couple in "Detailed to the extream" is not Simba and Nala :p Just a random lion couple but I guess it's a easy mistake to those who arn't familiar :D Also,..it isn't originaly black and white. I originally sketched it on yellow paper X) but I edited it so it was black and white on photoshop :) I agree in a way really,..I am into the black and white pics just as much as I am into coloured :D

Also, Casper , I am aware Muffy has put on weight there X) I had alot of problems whilst drawing him but eventualy stuck with what seemed to be the best I could do at the time ;)

Anyway, again, thanks to all of you :)

Black Raven
The "last@ 5 pics very well done. Now i must say something about them all. :)
IDme_copy
This looks pretty good, can't say something another. The main heroine is neatly done and I could say she looks nice! ;) The work with the hands is really ably, Timon is pleasant too, very similar to the original as I can remember him from the cartoon. Especially I like the color decision in which your work is made, the juicy indigo color of jeans is pleasant for eye and well tone with the common light brown background and yellowness of skin. The notes behind that girl is the interesting detail, like some kind of generalization of your creative person. :)
self_portrait_pencil_shaded
Oh! That shows your good abilities in realistic drawing, the shading quite good but...makes the picture slightly blurry, you know. It's hard to distinguish the pose of yours and the other details like the clothing. But the central detail - your face - looks really well done!
Detailed_to_extream
Its truly detailed a little too much. :D But nevertheless doesn't spoil a pic at all, quite the reverse it looks fresh. The young lions looks so naughty! I'm admired with your work at the ground and grass. Impressive!
Mufusa_and_Sarabi
The very good picture! What a colours...Amazing! The lions look as if they have been copied from a cartoon, so well they looks!
ZAZU
This bird is pretty good too. I like his (her) expression most of all. And nice shading, as well as the pic on a whole. :)

So thanks for sharing, I'll keep on waiting your new works!

Zazu is a male ^_^

Anyway, thank you very much for the comment :) I appreciate it :D

your art is very special…. :)
(although already it had seen these drawings in your page web ;))
the style and the colors that you use have much life  and the quality of the outlines creates really wonderful compositions…  :D
I am not a fan of the style of the personages of Disney. :)     but your work is very good…

wow again…  :)  my sincere congratulations…  :)  you are a great artist… :)

Thanks for the comment Gustavo :)
Anyway, to be honest, havn't done a big piece in art for a while, But it's time I update this with some random sketchs and junk :P....

1) Silly Simba Sketch. I did this at school without reference, and I rarley draw adult Simba so, I consider this a success even if it's just a silly rough sketch :D

2) (FULL) Maul for Mat, inspired by a comment in the "Fav Simpsons Pet" thread ;) Just HAD to be done :P *Is a Maul fan* I am aware though at how I can't draw People crossing their arms to save my life :p

3)I finally got round to photographing my GCSE final piece (Got A) However, now I can see loads of mistakes :P This was done in just 5 hours exam time though :/ and about 30 mins or so out of exam XD

4) Just a quick watercolour pic I did yesterday of a cartoon tiger, whilst I was looking after my little cousins.. :D

That's all for now :)

How badly, no comments here up to nowhere...Tryin to rectify the situation a little ;)
Silly_simba_sketch_chocolate
The lion's anathomy very well drawn as I can judge. His muzzle is very silly :)

gcse_lioness_final_piece_A
It's just skilled work. I would to say it shows your impressive talent of drawing all that big pussies and the surrounding jungles. The drawed lines and objects is so natural that I can thought I see the real landscape. The brook, the flowers, the lioness (she looks strange a bit, but very worked out) seemed to be drawed with an oil paints.
Simply Masterpiece! :)

tiger_watercolour_tree_jungle
And another case of big cats drawing, now the tigers :p It's well done too, the range of colours makes good sense (but I think the violet tint is rather not appropriate here...)

M_4_M
Nice pic! The cat so fervent, i don't know what i would do in that case, throw him out of window? (that's a joke of course :) ) The muzzle very funny again, and Matias turned out pretty good (again cannot to compare...)

Then as ask you not to break off your work if there's still no any answers (i'm sure you wouldn't :) )

Shame to me, I forgot to reply :red:
I like the last pack of pictures, very cute and impressive. I noticed that they are all colored/shaded different way... wow :) *LOL* at the second picture (Casper's avatar), and from all the rest my favorite is the third one, "Gcse Lioness". The perspective isn't perfect and she has kinda funny expression, but... the picture is amazing, I love that kind of shading really. Great amount of details, complex pose... and nice colors. Incredible :)

Title: Re: Raven's art

Ack...I keep forgetting about my own thread >_<  :red:
Anyway, a late thanks to you both for the comments :)

Yggdrasill, thanks very much for the effort you have put into the critique. It all helps :D. About the lioness, it was done in watercolour and colouring pencils, not oils  ;), only used oils once and never really got on with them :p

Dagdamor, it's okay since, I'm forgetfull myself, I am thankfull that people reply at all :D It gives me more confidence and  satisfaction I guess, that people like my art, and give me tips on how I can improve :) Which I find really helpfull...

Guess I should say, thanks to everyone whos commented at all :D

Pretty small update, I haven't done any big pictures for ages, and unfortunately, I think I'll be too busy for a long while till I can do big pictures again, so expect the odd sketches every now and then :p

Today, just 2 small sketches
The first one, inspired by the song, TLKob - Endless Night :)

Second, I doodled up now after news about the new species of cat found :)

Sorry about this, I have more art than I thought I did XD
Just scanned a few more sketches, I shall explain em :)

1) Freedom - Inspired by Linkin Park, which I was listening to on my journey home from the Hadrian's Wall trip 2 weeks ago

2) Trapped - Opposite of Freedom,..I hope this isn't too dark though  If so I'll delete it. I don't mind :)

3) Maggie, with gun - Dunno what inspired this, I was very bored a few nights ago and just drew this for no reason :p

4) My friend Alex asked to be drawn in Simpson style on the way to Hadrian's wall...She even posed XD Soon after, I kinda drew one of all of us in the group later. Alex kinda got two and kept the better one, I kept this one as well as my own

5) My own simpsonsized self sketch...it's on my door now :p

my favorite is Freedom… :)   it is a work with great energy and a sensation of spectacular movement… the scene this designed and the composition is cool , solid and  beautiful…

“Me Simpsonized”   deserves a commentary…  :D     Wow!,      not is the technique .. is the sensation that the drawing transmits!!! :)… this is art.. are emotions and air ... a great work.    with life…   magic plenty…   ;)  it seems that something… submerged in writing in thoughts, a simultaneously  a day of illuminated calm….poetry... draw and   a  very sweet work! :)

thanks by you art  :)

So many new pictures... so little words... as usual though... :D
Raven - from all "tiger" pictures I've ever seen, yours are the best so far! On all of them, your characters look very believable and anatomically correct. And cute, of course. I'm a cat person, so your pictures are always very pleasant to look at. :) Keep it up!

I also liked the "me_simpsonized_drawing" one. Well done, and nice expression :)

Black_raven
Endless night
That picture so much resembles me my own that i never has drawn (it's just in my mind). I only imagined Bart in such position looking at the moon with similar sad expression. That lion cub looks great and his expression turned out in best way. The whole picture looks a bit chaotic... you know. But the hills and clouds i like as well as the inscription in the drawing. Yah, the atmosphere represented here very pleasant to me.

new_species
Because of his inaccurately polluted snout (face?) the picture isn't pleasant to me so... But neverthless his silly and guilty expression rather ridiculous here. Stupid big kitten! :)

Maggie with the gun
Interesting picture, you have well selected her clothing. And her body contours is really believable, i like this pic too.

Alex
I like the way how you made expression, more of that all - the proportions, the contours and rough shading looks noteworthy (if its possible to say).

Me simpsonized
It's really interesting to see such "selfportraits", it always harbours the attutude to yourself, as the artist percieves himself.
That girl looks creative, a bit pensive and certainly handsome. ;)

Maggiecute, thank you very much, I am glad you like my art :)

George Harrison, Thank you also :D

Gustavo, thanks:D And,..hehe, I'm suprised "Me Simpsonized" seems to be a fav since it was really a quick sketch :p but I'm glad people liked it :gigi:

Dagdamor, thanks and yes, I too am a cat person :p I really love big cats the best though :D I think they're beautiful creatures :) though I still blame Lion King for making me so obsessed :p

Laguna Sky, Haha, I got one in Italy a few years ago on a school trip, I still wear it every now and then :gigi: I like spikey things  Thank you :)

Yggdrasil, Wow,..once again, thanks for the critique :p I am flattered :gigi: I think I also better add though Bastet (The lioness I regualy draw), is a girl :D Though I'm aware it isn't always clear :p

Sooo, once again, thank you everyone :) I really appreciate the feedback :D

Oohhh boy... thats a lotta pictures to catch up on..

Silly_simba_sketch_chocolate
You have become very natural at accuratly drawing Lions now, this sketch prooves it. The face has lots of details that you just dont find in Simpsons art, I think its amazing this is done in a sketch. Funny too... chocolate...  :gigi:

M_4_M
My vanity..!
Maul is a stupid cat. But I love the enthusiastic expression on his face  :D
I'll have to take a picture of that one time... I can get him to stand on my shoulders at least :p I'd like to say, the original picture now resides on my bedroom wall  (but more on that later!)
Thanks Rachel :) Very humerous :D

gcse_lioness_final_piece_A
This is just brillance, I've tried GCSE art and doing something like that is NOT easy. To get an A is just astonishing! Its no wonder why either, its a fantastic peice of work. I've also had a sneek peek at your new school work... please post when its ready  ;)

tiger_watercolour_tree_jungle
"Just a quick watercolour pic..."
For just a quick picture you've left us with a hugely impressive peice of art. I love the background, the jungle atmosphere, and the tiger strips. Looks amazing!
Well done!

endless_night
Never stop impressing me do you :)
I like how you can put so many emotions into a Lion's (or Lioness' of course ;) )face. Even the sad...
Background looks a bit scribbly, but the main focus on the picture is Bastet, the Lioness. Looks a very symbolic picture, but no doubt she will be back to eating bugs and singing Hakuna Mutata in no time :D

aaaarrggg... running out of time. I'll comment on the others later, promise!
EDIT: Back again...

new_species
Its a nice idea, love to see a whole spectrum of these wild cats on an animated program one time. You draw them very well! Just a nice sketch :)

freedom
Yey! Love the background, and the detail on Bastet again. Over all, a very nice picture. Hope you colour this. :)

trapped
Aww. Poor Bastet... the expression describes the situation very well. I'm sure her Lion freinds will free her X)

maggie_with_gun
Hehe! I see elements of Bastet in her hair ;) All I can say about it is... Random :D I like the shading though, and her stance. The proportions are good too, just need to work on her fingers around the pistol handle.
(Maggie is very experianced with guns on the web... Maybe its time we round up them all like Serges 'Lisa Wings' website? A thought.)

alex
Excelent posing :D The expression is strangely kinky, yet cool  :gigi:  A very good demonstration of your ability to draw accurate Simpsonised people.

me_simpsonized_drawing
Very good, not much to say really. The posture is very good, well done :)

(Sorry for some of the shorter comments >.<)

Post by: Black_raven on April 20, 2007, 21:01
Wow, I'm sorry for not replying sooner but thank you for the comments Casper :)
I'm glad you like "Maul for Mat " ;)

and I am aware that some of my sketches are "scribbly",..mainly cos I am just very lazy :p

and I have more proof! :D

Well, just a few sketches I've done recently on the tablet...

I recently got a new computer, for a long while I had been using a laptop since my old 1998 computer was just too unreliable, and I kinda abandoned my tablet, but since it's all working again....I've got really attached to my tablet again! :p
So, I've been practicing I guess :D

1) A quick unicorn sketch,..I dunno why, never drawn one before and I'm not even THAT girly,..not even really keen on horses but it was something different to try,..I quite liked the outcome, despite the anatomy being all wrong x-X

2) Well,...'m not exactly a fan of "Foster's Home for Imaginary Friends", though I have seen the cartoon a few times :p, Recently I watched "Mac Daddy" on youtube, and I then had a strange urge to draw the characters "Bloo" and "Cheese" :D
Again, like the unicorn, this was very rushed :gigi:

3) Ta-da!! ON TOPIC STUFF!!! Lisa :p, inspired by System of a Down's, "Atwa", their stuff is too catchy :p I blame Casper for getting me somewhat addicted to Toxicity ;)
Anyway,..I'm proud of it despite the messy inking and colouring ...and shading :gigi:

Your art looks good, Black_Raven.

Can you help me to draw the Simpsons version of my character called Jere "The Gambler" Peltonen?
I already make the South Park version. There's two types: Human and "The Dark Vigilante".

Details can found in my topic. You must be that artist what i was looking for. :D

If you say yes, then i will be very glad.  And try to draw him with Lisa. :D :D :p

Black_raven
All three pictures are very good!

1)Unicorn's eyes are deep and so beautiful! And nice shading of the body!
2) Really funny, but can't say more, because I haven't seen this cartoon.
3) Touching, emotional picture. Lisa's sad face, smokey background and this flower match each other and this composition looks so finished and integral.

Title: Re: Raven's art
Post by: Dagdamor on April 21, 2007, 13:54
Yay, new art from Rachel! *hugs*

Unicorn pic: I don't know whether the anatomy is wrong or right here (to me, it looks perfect... but I only started to learn to draw horses), but I know that Lisa would love this picture to the bits :lisa: Sweet expression, smooth lines... you even added eyelashes :) I like it very much, too.

Bloo_Cheese: Er... I never saw that cartoon (probably for the better :D)... anyway, looks not bad.

ATWA: Awww! The best picture from this pack without doubt. It's very well done, nice work both with Lisa and with the background (I wonder though what's hanging there, on the tree branch on the left... hope it's not someone's nightgown!) Besides, I see familiar mood here - the loneliness, the wind, the flower... something tells me that Gustavo will like it. :) Sweet picture, please draw more. :)

Title: Re: Raven's art
Post by: janglewolf on April 21, 2007, 18:04
Yes, the unicorn is very sweet, I can't really comment on the accuracy of the anatomy as I've never seen a real one...  :D   I do have a load of wild Esquilaxes grazing my lawn though...

ATWA is a very atmospheric pic, I rather like the fact that it's a little sketchy and the power plant in the backgound is a really nice detail.

Title: Re: Raven's art
Post by: Suusje on April 21, 2007, 18:20
1. The unicorn looks pretty good and I have to agree with Dag that Lisa would probably love it. :D

2. I've never seen "Foster's Home for Imaginary Friends", so I can't really comment on this one, but it looks pretty wacky. :p

3. This pic looks really nice! I didn't notice it had a background, until I saw it the third or fourth time. It looks very sketchy and messy, but that also gives a nice feel to the pic. ;)

Keep up the good work!

Black Raven
Fist of all the pic that i never understand... :p
The mighty one Bloo Cheese What a schizoid pic!.. :gigi: You rocks with it, making me smile.
Then a Unicorn-pic.
Well that's a great one. Of course the most remarkable part her expression. She is very pretty not only from unicorns point of view. :) With her eyelashes and hairs falling down the eyes. The work with shapes is adorable. And the shades / catchlights looks attractive.
And for a dessert to me ATWA
This is very atmospheric and inducing the thoughts pic. Standing in the side away from town, observing that mad world around her, Lisa so pitiful here. Oh she again in grief, the petals falls and her lifetime goes past her. As like we do.
I like how you has worked out this one. It's not overloaded with details and the only main objects are coloured, which color selection is pleasant and unobtrusive.
Very interesting yet sad work.

Title: Re: Raven's art
Post by: Casper on April 22, 2007, 22:37
Nice to see more art from you Raven :)

A Unicorn
The cartoon look is very authentic, the colours has been applied nicely, and its left a very nice character. Looks somewhat like a cartoonist sketch, in which will be expanded. I just really admire the simplicity.

Bloo Cheese
Never heard of it in my life!  :gigi:
Doesnt look like the hardest of drawings to create but, funny. :D

ATWA
The background strikes me, faded away to focus on the main plot. That is a very good techneque I think. Lisa has a saddened expression, which is well portrayed. The colours are very good too, though very sketchy. I think this picture would look much better if the shading was smoother, rather than sketched. Although, that would probably mean colouring the background a little, more work. ;) The clothes hanging from the tree are a little bizare, a concept I'm not sure I understand. But its good artisticaly.
Well done! :)

Hmm, while I'm here...

Wouldnt it be faster to draw it yourself?  I'm not sure people want to spend spare time drawing another persons dream, rather than creating their own. Please dont be too forth right, an artists ability is practiced for years, and shouldnt be taken advantage of. Just be polite and patient. ;)

Wow
well, thank you everyone for the feedback :D
Though I think I better make certain things clear first,

1) It's not a girl's scarf or dress or top, to start with I had a different backgtround involving a bulldozer and a crime scene, it was all quite complicated.
So that scarf is acturaly supposed to be a bit of police tape wrapped round the tree that I kidna half coloured and left >_<
However I've been advised to leave it :gigi:

2) I am qutie aware many people havn't seen the bloo cheese cartoon, is avaliable on youtube for those who dare to watch it XD Yes, my humor is quite immature I guess :p, but I found Cheese funny XD
The style itself is simple, however, it;s like drawing Homer! looks simple enough but just...isn't!! x_x took me a while to get it right..ish

3) This is more intended towards Akuma, however I've allready sent him a PM about it, I will explain here that unfortunatly, due to exams and revision pressure, I dont really have the time to draw for others right now :S
I have time to sketch to myself though, and thats usualy a method I use to relax, just to sketch anything thats in my mind...otherwise, I really am too busy, as it takes alot more effort to draw for someone eles who has a certain idea...
so, sorry ^_^' I pretty much dont finish my exams and work till the summer and even then my summer is expected to be busy with going away on holiday and spending time with my friends, I won't be around much.

So anyway, overall, I'm glad people enjoy my work :) Thanks again everyone *group hugs!!* :gigi:

(Sorry for my lateness in replying)
Rachel, that's some incredible art. The unicorn is wonderful, the hair falling over the eyes nicely done. As for Bloo Cheese, I have seen Foster's Home for Imaginary Friends, although I don't make watching it a habit :D But the characters are very nicely done, almost as if it were a grabpic. And ATWA... I am beyond words... it's a lovely effect, the tree she's sitting under and the words in the background, ethereal. Only one thing I noticed that is a bit off: Lisa's forehead is slightly more pronounced than I normally see it.

Bloo Cheese:   wow .....

George Harrison, hehe glad to know I'm not the only one who has witnessed the wackiness of the cartoon :D,  but thank you :p, and ah yes, Lisa's forehead I kinda had trouble getting right, so I got it as close as I could to getting it right,..I should get better practice :p

Gustavo, I am very glad you like my art :D Thank you :)

Anyway, just 2 new pieces

1) Evil Simba version 1, (with Timon), just something silly I sketched during registration time at school, simba turned out ok, so I went over his sketch, and kinda left Timon and the bug X) Not sure if I will ever get round to really "finishing" it, so..I'll upload it as it is :D
and sorry for it being so small, the full sized version is on the other computer I use >_<

2) Evil Simba version 2,..just something I did on my tablet to pass the time one evening, and as practise.  However I neglected the lineart really, which is why it's so messy, but I liked the composition, so,..it stays :D

More wonderful art :D

Evil Simba v1
I must say, this is incredibly good even for a sketch... I can't find anything that bothers me about it :p It's truly a great picture. If I didn't know better, I'd say it was finished... although hopefully we'll see it coloured :p

Evil Simba v2
Yet another extremely good picture... maybe not as detailed as v1, but I can't find anything wrong with this one either  The lines on the face, the eyes, the nose, you've got everything perfect.

Thanks for uploading these... you're really a wonderful artist :)

It is just me, or your Evil Simba doesn't look evil at all? :D
Rachel, those are really sweet and nicely done pictures... argh, why you draw Lisa (or Simpsons at all) so rarely? Why I'm not an obsessed Lion King fan? ;) Your art is amazing, especially when you say "I did that for practice". Both pics are nice on their own way... first has perfect lineart while second has great shading and dynamics. Keep it up, but please also remember about poor neglected Simpsons family sometimes :p

Thanks guys :)

George Harrison, thank you very much , I am glad you like my artwork *is flattered* ^_^

Dagdamor, thanks also and believe me, Simba can be evil ;).  He just happens to look cute no matter what :D
and about Simpson art..your right, I havn't done enough for a while, mainly since I've had some kinda block, I've ran out of ideas for new Simpson sketches o_0, but hopefully I'll be able to come up with something next time I sketch in my free time :)

Okay, I managed to draw an on topic piece that I'm quite pleased with :D
I used watercolours and gell pens with this, and a little bit of photoshop editing (but not much ^_^)

Hopefully no one is sick of angel Lisas :p (and I doubt it ;) )

It was inspired by "Angels" by Within Temptation, which I discovered on here thanks to George Harrison posting it up in the "song lyrics" thread :)

Enjoy! :D

Wow... I must say, that's a very nice picture :) I really do love the watercolours in this one, the foreground and backgrounds are done spectacularly... and what more beautiful than the main idea? :D The shining effect on her skin is great, and the way her hair is seemingly just blowing in the wind is also a very nice effect. And her wings... a lovely contrast with the background. Keep up the good work! :)

Also... I'm very glad that you were able to get some inspiration from that song :) It's a very good one.

Several times I tried to write a post here, but only found that I had no words.
I mean, it's splendid. The Lion King inspired pictures are very nicely done - I really wish I could draw so well and easily. The Simpson-style ones really are simpson-style ones - and there is the one with Maggie and a gun in it:-)
But the one I like the best is, of course 'Bloo Cheese'...:-)
Thanks for your art, hope to see some more!

A brilliant picture... looks like a scene from the dream :)
Lisa looks adorable there, and I love the whole "fantasy" impression the picture gives.
Looks like several lines were erased (I mean the twirl on her arm) ;)
Her wings are also very sweet and believable. Nice title, too...
Thank you!

Dagdamor, hehe you must of looked quite closely cos I didn't knowtice I left the twirl around her arm in! (doh!)  :homer:

It's great to see some watercolour, OFF fanart seems to be quite computer dominated to me, so traditional media are always an interesting change.   It works really well in this pic, Lisa really does seem to be sparkling!.   I like the impressionistic look of the background, it gives the picture a dream-like feeling of lightness.

Title: Re: Raven's art
Post by: Casper on May 08, 2007, 14:53
A very powerfull pic Rach, powerfull in a very subtle kind of way...

The hair on Lisa is brilliant, you've created a look we can believe is Lisa, which is still realistic by blowing in the woodland breeze effectivly. The colouring on her hair is incredible to say it was crafted using water colour. Her skin compexion is very bright, and compliments her dress very well. This contrasts only the floor, as the water, sky and moon are all very bright too, creating a very magical sence.

I really do love this picture! Theres a lot of depth for such a picture. But not like normal, its more.... 'nice'.
She isnt smiling, but that doesnt mean it isnt a nice. She has been sent from the heavens to be a symbol of beauty to be shone across the wilderness.  :lisa:

Very very good Rach, well done. :)

Thanks to all who have commented
Now, I have just got back from school, after a 5 hour long art exam, I worked on my final piece, and...well, despite going through a tough time, I am pleased with the outcome
I apologies as the quality is pretty bad since this I had to take a picture of on my phone
and it had to be handed in.

This was done in watered down acrylics on watercolour paper, and colouring pencil used as markings on top

The picture is a bit messy, it's not easy to understand what happens, but I hope I understood it right, she's either trying to break free or defending herself. And, judging on the pacifier, it's Maggie.
It's good anyway, maybe sad and a bit cruel, but I like it. Her pose is complex, but very realistic, and her expression shows her state well :( Her wings are also nicely done. I wish I could see them in color, I wonder are they still white... Clothes are also well drawn, I won't be surprized is you wear something like that in school ;)
Thanks for sharing this picture, it's nicely done, and I will look at it more, even if it's Mag :)

Your Skill-work
That Work is very uncommon and strange... magnificent strange. Feels like this is some kind of a mix of feelings - somewhat of enthusiasm, of an inexpressible lightness of life as it seems sometimes. And i barely have not so much words to say - it's just should be seen, there's probably no word to describe what you has put in this. Just pure poetry.

Sparkling Angel
That's very nice too. Adult, winged and pretty...wow, what else to say - I wanna be with her...no matter how. :D This picture in general looks so brightened and its colours simply beautiful. A lonely night, cold moon in the skies and the face of nature - it looks simply great. Easy strokes suits in best way her gentle wings, beautiful gold hairs. Skies of very light blue colour makes the sensation of so magic and gala atmosphere. And she was appeared among more of that much pleasant scene. Again, it's very beautiful.

Fallen Angel black&whiteh
She's very good as all female simpsons characters by you (oh, well, and the others too :)). Though the whole scene must be very sad and maybe cruel howewer for me it looks quite good, as i have some determined inclination to that kind of stuff (yeah-yeah, i like it more than some pretty-sweety-picies, but not in Lisa-case, of course). So this pic is pleasant with its seriousness and deepness of feelings of girl... To the point that six wounds on her arms looks like some werevolf or another hell-dog did that terrible things... It's really pity when looking at her crying and sitting on the ground she probably must never steped on...

(Sorry for not adding sooner! I've been struggling with a bit of depression here, and my recent posts haven't said much... I'm feeling a whole lot better now, though, so on to the good part :D)

Your recent picture is, as Serge said, a bit messy, but I actually like it better that way; it contributes to the mood of the picture :) Maggie's head is nicely done, as are the torn and tattered clothes. The chain is pretty symbolic, as is the dirt and other things covering her... and her shirt... Hmm... do I sense another connection here? "Fallen angel, tell me why..." ;)

Hehehe, I like being strange and drawing strange things for art :p, always fun :D

To the point that six wounds on her arms looks like some werevolf or another hell-dog did that terrible things...
Hehe,..proberbly shouldn't be laughing about it but nah,..I never intended to torture Maggie,..just drew her to express some deep meanings/thoughts..the lot :p I don't know why but I just have a strange attachment to Maggie, and I like experimenting with emotion when drawing her.

and her shirt... Hmm... do I sense another connection here? "Fallen angel, tell me why..." Wink
Well, funnily enough,...this song didn't really inspire the picture, even though it has the same angel theme,..it somewhat contrast with my Lisa - sparking angel pic though :p Or maybe I'm just starting to get into some kinda obsession with angels here O_o

She's so beautiful! Great work! Very well done with wings, they're brilliant. And so touching and emotional.

Quite dark picture, it explains your mood at that times very well... I don't know what to say cause it's each own lot to overcome their sadness... As for the technique it's almost perfect. Though I can't accept to the end that its an arrow that sticks up of her. It's very emotional and delicate question for a person who draws such overwhelmed with emotions sketch.

Lovely pictures :) The first one is very touching, not only you made a drawing on my favorite subject, but you also kept the Simpsons proportions well - in particular, I like how Lisa's legs are bent. Nice detail with the heart, too... and her wings are so fluffy, just like I always imagined them.

The second picture is detailed to the max, technically, it's great! It's unusual to see a cloud going behind the moon, but all these mountains and trees, and river... amazing. The lion (Bastet? Don't remember that name at all :() is also drawn very well, and nice expression, I can't see anything I don't like.

What about drawing a crossover with the Lion King character(s) and Lisa? ;)

Title: Re: Raven's art

Both pics are very emotional. I suppose, your inspiring song was about sad, sad love and depression. 'Cause loneliness is main thing I see here.

About Lisa: agree with Dag about brilliant fluffy wings, very touching, and really nice detail with that heart. About nitpicks - I suppose feet a bit flat and eyelashes a bit short, but to be honest, it doesn't really matter. Pretty good and very expressive!

About Bastet - it's your own furry personality, if I remember correctly? Must say, I'm not so fond of furry pictures, but I like this one. It completely reflects that lyrics and looks very touching. I suppose more positive, than Lisa, because in this pic I feel some hope, not so tragic loneliness.

Title: Re: Raven's art
Post by: janglewolf on June 21, 2007, 00:14
The background on the second one is incredible there are some great details there.
The Lisa pic does look a little flat but there's a lot of emotion there and as Serge said, you've done a great job on the wings. (I need that winged Lisa smiley...)

Title: Re: Raven's art
Post by: Black_raven on June 21, 2007, 13:26
Maggiecute - Thanks :D

Serge - Doh!,..well..to be fair I was tired and not concentrating much on what I was doing with the sky >_< I was more or less doodling in a lot of detail for those 2 hours to pass the time waiting for my next lesson :P and yes Bastet is the name of the lioness but don't worry about remembering it or not :gigi: Thanks though ^_^
Oh and crossovers with Lisa? I did one AGES ago,..should probably re do it cos it looks awful...

but here is the Lisa one:http://img375.imageshack.us/img375/6451/lisalionpd7.png (http://img375.imageshack.us/img375/6451/lisalionpd7.png)
and here's the better one of Bart :D :http://img357.imageshack.us/img357/4674/thebartkingci6.png (http://img357.imageshack.us/img357/4674/thebartkingci6.png)

Bra - Guess loneliness can be considered as a theme, yeah...Anyway, the Lisa is pretty flat now you mention it. To be fair I had tried that composition in the past but gave up cos it looked too flat, so, guess I didn't manage to overcome that problem >_< (doh!)
You've kinda got the idea of Bastet being my "furry personality" but I wouldn't say Bastet was a "furry". Usually furrys are depicted with a human form, as here I've drawn Bastet in "The Lion King" style I guess, so possibly why you like it :p Which I'm glad you do ^_^

George H - Thank you, and yeah, I should probably add them up in the Song Lyrics topic. Funnily enough I didn't think of the songs till after I had drawn the pics >_< Kinda the other way round...however I seem to have developed this habit of matching songs to pictures now  Anyway Lisa's one is "Forgotten - Linkin Park" I did write out the lyrics but kinda cropped it out the picture cos it was messy and I wasn't sure they were all correct X( The second is an oldish one on a random cd full of random songs from a friend, "Blurry - Puddle of Mudd"

Janglewolf - Thank you very much :) and yeah, think many of us want that winged Lisa smilie :gigi:

Whoa... and you was hiding these pics (crossovers I mean)?
They are great! I love Lisa one especially... Bart one is good, too, even better technically (though big amount of details makes him older for some reason), but Lisa is better. :) Very cute and nice idea... I actually meant another thing in my previous post, not Lisa as one of Lion King characters, but Lisa with Lion King characters :) knowing that she's a cat person and those lions are yellow too, I think they would easily become friends :p but the versions you've posted are sweet too, thank you very much :)

Poor forgotten Lisa - my only words here. How much I would like to embrace her that moment, to console her.. The locket is such a heartbreak detail beside even her expression. Whether we see her joyous again by your? Nevertheless it's just nice picture, sad nice picture.

wondering_bastet
Second one with Simba Bastet strikes your imagination with a huge amount of details, I'm glad your return to this manner of drawing (even in the single picture ore two so long). And this is really that. All that mountains, stars and the NightSky of course made absolutely unbelievable atmosphere of something magic and vital happening. I like that slightly visible in the distance but so detailed landscape.

The Simpson kids as lion-kids I like too, they amusing very much, especially...Bart. :) His expression simply brilliant and the pose, his paws position. (*claps*) I'm grateful to you for this samples of your unusual vision on Simpsons! By the way perfectly executed.

Wow,....well....overall, thank you everyone who has commented ^_^ I really appreciate it and it makes me happy to know people enjoy my art :) *hugs to all* :D
Anyway, I'm still working on my art, so more pics to come soon!
and maybe I should try and do more Lion king crossovers or the one you suggested Serge, of Lisa with the lion characters :gigi:

Just adding to this cos I haven't for a long while, I haven't really got anything new tbh..
Anyway...

1)Inspired by Harry Potter (No real spoilers to those who read, don't worry...juts a combination of ideas)  and Queen Music XD Just don't ask...I am not sure either :P Just seemed pretty but it hasn't scanned very well, ah well...

2) This I did a while back, unfortunately I haven't really done any digital art since, or completed any..but this is Seigo though I'm sure most people know who he really is by now :p at the time I was just practicing lineart and new shading techniques...XD

Well thats all for now...Enjoy :D

Of course we all know who Seigo is, or at least I do. ;)

These are both great drawings, especially the first one, so symbolic... though for a second I expected a picture of Freddie and Roger dressed up in women's clothes (if you haven't seen the music video, you won't understand that comment :gigi:). The second one is a bit simpler, but the lines and coloring are well done.

Great work Rachel, it's good to see some more art from someone as talented as you. :)

Oh, first one is so special - I think that phoenix and Queen song go well together. Very inspiring! Both bird and lion very well drawn and picture has its special spirit! Haven't read 7th book yet, but at previous books that bird had a big meaning, and I always liked it's faith and  helping, and of course, phoenixes are very, very symbolic.
Seigo is well drawn too and nicely coloured. What a great mane he has! And eyes are so mysterious.

Thanks for sharing, I like your artworks!

The second picture (Seigo) is awesome! Great sketching, good work with tracing and the shading seems to be simple but looks very good in the end. Like that effect with white lines. All in all, very good drawing, yay to more yellow creatures. :p
The first picture looks impressive too, although I never read HP so I can't recognize the scene... bird's pose is dramatic and powerful, and respect for drawing all that chain links, looks very believable too. Small nitpick: the lion's right ear is invisible, like it's absent. But great work, keep up drawing!

HAs i think i already told you, i really like how the pic of Seigo came out. Brilliant pose, very eye pleasing colors, the character is very interesting and looks ultra cool. About the first one, i don't get the plot of it (who's Harry Porter?  :p ) but it's another one of your nice sketches. Love the "spontaneity" of your art in these... :)

You're so good at the Lion King style, you must teach me someday. X)
And the line art looks great on Seigo, I like how it's darker than the color it's over, it's sorta like anime inks.

The phoenix is great in your first picture, I really suck at draing birds and such. ;-;

Keep drawing, your artwork is so beautiful and your sketches are so neat, unlike mine. XD

George - Hehe good good ^_^
I have seen the vid but nah, it was just the song I was listening to at the time when I was drawing. I always have my mp3 player on shuffle when I draw :p

Thank you very much :)

Bra
- Your right really, I was thinking of Fawkes ;) From the previous books, I have always loved Fawkes ^_^ Seigo's colours are based off real ones ;) well, kinda X)
Thanks ^_^

Serge
-
the lion's right ear is invisible, like it's absent
*Lioness ;) but never mind :p It's not supposed to be showing really since the flames and her hair ("fur bang" XD) cover it, unfortunatly this didn't scan very well, so it's not very clear >_< So sorry for confusment :p
Thanks very much though, and for pointing that out XD

Marco
- yah you did :) Thanks though, and the first isn't exactly based on the plot of Harry Potter in anyway, it was like fuel, it got me started X)

Rizzy
- Thanks very much :D Though, I don't think I'll be able to "teach" exactly x_x Sorry D: I'm just bad at explaining things in general...I feel after at least 12 years of practising that I finally got it though >_< Took a long time X)
Thank you very much though

Thanks to everyone really, I really appreciate the comments and feedback :)

I'm leaving here for a while, LTS, MSN etc, just thought I better let you know.

Also been sketching, not very well, but it's something.
Pictures include Linkin Park lyrics that I feel I can relate to right now, some of which I slightly changed to fit. I don't care if this is coming across as emo, this is me, and if people don't like it then just ignore it.

Warning: pictures are dark, gory, emotional and fucked up
I'll be back once I sort out this shit in my life...
I'm sorry.

In your current state you probably won't believe me, but bad times always pass, this will happen this time too. Be strong and look to the future :) and your drawings, being harsh and angsty, are still nicely drawn.
And don't listen to LP in this mood please... listen to Enigma instead. Why salting your wounds.

I just think that listening to depressive songs, when you already feel depressed, only makes things worse. At least this is how it works to me, when I feel down, I try to listen to uplifting songs instead, but of course everyone has their own preferences...

Well,...thanks guys..I am glad to be a part of LTS, I'm sorry for getting over emotional and losing control, but I felt the real need to let out this emotion...so sorry for the drama...
I feel a bit better however still hurt deep down inside. School wasn't that great today either, but I'm not so stressed now I'm home.

Reason I'm back here, as some may have noticed, is cos I gave in, I gave in way too easily...perhaps cos I'm just addicted to the internet, but the main reason was I got very bored at home with nothing to do except homework, which although I tried working on,...it couldnt fully distract me for long enough...:(

I'm hoping I'll be feeling better later this week seeing as I'm going on a small camp on the weekend with my ranger guide friends. I'll be saying goodbye to a good friend whos leaving to Uni in October, so whilst something I can look forward to, will also be quite sad too.
So,...despite a bad few days so far, I feel things are looking up a little and this pain will go away in time...

Expressive sketches, Rachel. Standing on the edge one especially. Slender body looks great with that fluffy hair and dress. Head position and eyes are very well done!

I suppose I partially understand what you feel, or just feel something like it, but for me it's one possible choice - just tell myself to wait 2-3 years to pass (like Lisa was going to wait 10 :p) and  just go through all this stuff.
You have friends (even if they're leaving, they still your friends), you have talent, you're good looking girl and your future gonna be ever so bright ;-)
I like your art very much, hope to see you in good mood and your positive art soon! ;-) Just make it through.

Bra -...Those are some very kind words. :)I really can't thank you enough, even though I don't feel I deserve them. I'm not perfect but then no one is I guess. but this has helped me gain back a bit of courage I once had and lost, and keeps me feeling ambitious and determined to do well... and thank you very much for commenting on the picture too. As for positive art, I'm afraid I don't have anything new, whatever art I'm doing right now I'm trying to draw for my A2 studies and give it all I've got.

I got my results back but found I got a B, just 4 marks off an A. However I talked to my teacher about it today so this year I'm going to try and focus more like I did on my exam piece (The actual exam was an A but my other work ended up as B's). If I am ahead and have the time and influence...I will try more fan art...otherwise I apologies, any art I show at all will most likely be normal observational studies...

George H - I really owe you a lot for being a good friend for me right at this point in time. Over the last few days I admit I've vented, ranted and moaned a lot, and I really am sorry for that :( but I am thankful as well that you were able to put up with me and help support me, and cheer me up, so, *hugs* Thank you :)

Those pictures was very heart-touching and harsh, piercing in places, but it seems for me that maybe you feeling a bit better than that times.
First one, with a tortured for some transgression Simba looks very sad and I think I cannot say very much of it. Just a very sincere expression of painful thoughts of author...
And second with Lisa - oh, I was really in confusion when saw this picture. That's purely dark scene...all the thoughts I have is to scream "Don't do this!". What to say, it's difficult to see such stuff...from the others, not from myself. And no matter how meaningful the reasons of such emotional fall, the art itself brings to it even more depth and drama. Simply penetrating scene that I must to say honestly don't expect to see suddenly from anyone. But this is life itself...
And I would like to say that in my eyes to listen something heavy is much more helpful, something misanthropic, biased and purely evil. At least for me, I think the black in the heart and in the external infusion turns to white colour, or at least grey, filling you with awesome wish to do something once again. Cause you saw the bottom just now in your eyes and there's nothing that can keep you in this nasty condition.
(though another side of mine keeps telling me - "Go on! Pull the trigger!" This darkness is always with me.)
---
So I hope the things tend to be more good now. :)

Thanks Yggdrasil, though, it's not Simba ;) It's Bastet again ^_^

Anyway, Thanks to everyone who commented, however I'm sorry for posting such sinister art at times where I'm troubled.
So here's something fresh I'm working on as I said I would in the Song Lyrics thread.
Inspired by Evanescence's song Imaginary. This is just a rough sketch so far. It took me lots of sketching and this is the best of the lot so far, but I haven't finished it just yet for this is a good chance for critic before I move on.
I'm sorry that my scanner scanned it in so light, had to make it blue but even then most of the detail seems faded. (Except that big white patch where I gave up drawing millions of flowers :p)
I'm also debating on shading it in pencil, colouring pencils, watercolour, digital, or possibly just ink...so any ideas/suggestions are appreciated ^_^

It's okay to post negative art, it doesn't matter whether the picture is full of joy or angst... including your feelings in artwork is just one of the many ways to release these emotions. But the hurt always passes away, and with the sun's rise every morning the world changes, bit by bit... Anyway, on to the drawing...

Ah, Simpsons fan-art, I'm sure you'll make some people happy by posting this. ;)

Overall, the picture looks pretty well done, if a bit rough at a glance. I think watercolors would look good on this, the picture has the potential of becoming very much like your "Sparkling Angel", and if you'll hear my opinion, I think that that picture looked very nice... not everything looks best when the lines are perfectly colored in.

But of course, that's just my opinion. :)

True :p

The last drawing looks a little sketchy, it's not easy to recognize what's going on in certain places... but it's optimistic and somehow gives you the feeling of safety, I liked it a lot. Lisa's pose is very cute, I hope she won't have allergy to those flowers while lying among them ;) Nice picture, what else can I say. Keep drawing!

Title: Re: Raven's art
Post by: Shadow Nait on September 21, 2007, 19:47
That was nice, Black Raven, thank you for that. :) What can be more cute ever than Lisa lying in flowers with such a beautiful surrounding?! Without doubts this picture has a very nice potential (but which one hasn't?) I like her pose of course and a thoughtful face. It's interesting to know what thoughts visit her now. That little detail, a bangle made of flowers I especially like. And the strophes are great, it suits the atmosphere of a picture in the best way. Oh, I mean you have done a great job with expressing the song's mood in your sketch. :) Thanks once again.

Title: Re: Raven's art

Agreed with George about relation with "Sparkling angel", a lot of potential here, too. But I'm not sure, that watercolours are best choice here. Or probably they are, but with more bright, vivid tints than there. Flowers should be colourful! :)
Nice details - clouds are impressive, and I like that little bracelet very much. Lisa's face is well done, when you're alone at the clear piece of nature, that kind of face looks the most natural, I suppose.

As for your positive and negative pictures - you know, I adore both types of your art. Only thing that matters - it's deep and sincere, coming exactly from your soul. Thank you for this. I wish all members here could have their sorrows gone, but it seems that in this life it's not so possible, so, it's great you can turn this unavoidable bad periods to great pieces of art.

Title: Re: Raven's art
Post by: Black_raven on September 22, 2007, 09:37
George Harrison - Thanks :) and yeah, can see how it can relate to the sparkling angel picture, especially if I was to watercolour it...but I guess it's not a bad thing by what people have said.

Dagdamor
- Yeah, it's very sketchy and I'm sorry it's not such good quality because of how the scanner picked it up >_< Also forgot about Lisa's hay fever :p but then again, the song says "paper flowers" soo...could relate in the sense of Lisa's dream world cos she wouldn't be allergic to them X) Hopefully won't get paper cuts though >_< Anyway, thank you :)

Yggdrasill - Thank you :) I'm glad you like it :D

Brakusaetsya
- The reason I am debating on watercolouring it is cos it isn't on the right kind of paper, however I got away with it on that kind of paper twice before with "sparkling angel", and one I did recently that..belongs to Mat now and up to him if I can post it here ;) He'd have to scan it though... Thank you though ^_^

Post by: Casper on September 22, 2007, 20:17
oooh bugger. I get too caught up with talking to you outside the forum I forget to comment here  :red:

Right, from the top!

Your Final Art Peice (http://www.lisa-simpson.net/topic/90.msg3765#msg3765)
Well, I may have said this before but I think its a wonderful work of art. The colours blend into each other very nicely and all the arms and hands are well drawn with correct proportions. And the flowers too.
As Marco said, I think anybody would be proud to have this as a decoration to a modern room. :)

Fallen Angel (http://www.lisa-simpson.net/topic/90.msg3830#msg3830)
Now this is odd. Another sad winged picture, but this time its Maggie.
Not many words for it, just... if I had any critizism I think her neck is a little long. But its well drawn.

Fallen Angel Black and White (http://www.lisa-simpson.net/topic/90.msg4096#msg4096)
Similar to the comment above, only I give extra credit for the massive amount of detail. The wings and, I like how her trousers hang over her shoes realisticaly, just small details like that stop me from, well... not liking the picture due to its inner story.  But again, it is well drawn, well done.

Forgotten Winged Lisa (http://www.lisa-simpson.net/topic/90.msg5234#msg5234)
Now this one, I can see you didnt spend as much time with. But the first impression of the picture gives, almost a genuine saddness for Lisa in the show standerds. I'm bad with words but I mean, its the sort of image the Simpsons show would use. I dont feel sad looking at it, it looks more like part of a longer story which she eventualy recovers. Few issues with the legs though, they seem too far appart and too curved. Also her hand looks a bit too big, but thats all really.

Wondering Bastet (http://www.lisa-simpson.net/topic/90.msg5234#msg5234)
Looks like she is waiting for somebody, but they are late and its that kinda expression when your bored and sad they never showed up. Must be somebody special... Damn them! :(
Anyway, from a technical view... Just wow.
I love your sketch's in pen, the details you add are much more distinct from the pencil details. But thats mostly due to the fact that its more accurate, and you experiment more with it.
Very good drawing Rach, I wouldnt mind seeing this with a touch of colour.

Lisa Lion Crossover (http://www.lisa-simpson.net/topic/90.msg5257#msg5257)
I've seen this before but I've never actualy commented on it.
Firstly, congradulations on even coming out with a result! This is a tall order, when the cartoons are so very different.
I particularly like how you've shaped her new nose, it doesnt look too Lion King but, its definatly not a human nose. ;) Also like the fact you choose to colour her nose and tail red, a very wise move, since Lisa is always seen in red. And ofcourse, her perl necklace. :P

Bart Lion Crossover (http://www.lisa-simpson.net/topic/90.msg5257#msg5257)
This to me is a bit strange, as I dont think I've ever seen a Lion sit up like that. :gigi:
Still, its very much the bart we know, and its a good crossover from Simpson to savana king :)
However, out of the two I prefer Lisa. This is simply because her head shape is more suited for a Lions body, and the ears especialy dont stand out as much.

I hope one day we'll see these two characters again though. ;) Also.. wonder what Simba would look like as a cross Simpson..?

Breaking Free (http://www.lisa-simpson.net/topic/90.msg6538#msg6538)
Not sure if its my monitor but its hard to see with the light colours. Anyway... As far as I can see, thats a flaming eagle flying free out of Bastest necklace, no?
Quite a vivid idea, but I'd expect nothing less from a picture inspired by Harry Potter. ;)
I wish I had some critizism about Bastet but I just dont, I think you've drawn her well for such a tricky angle, well done. :)

Seigo (http://www.lisa-simpson.net/topic/90.msg6538#msg6538)
Am I really that fat....?  Ahem! Sorry, anyway...
I think you've done an impressive job drawing the character as a whole. It seems no matter which angle or view you wish to draw them from, its a dawdle :P The shading seems a bit too much though. I think it would have been better to keep the face the original yellow colour, then go over it with a slightly darker colour around the edges. I think at the moment it makes the face look a bit green... But I am partly colour blind so could be me. :gigi: Either that, or simply shade the parts of the mane (?) in where they need shading much deeper, so theres a greater contrast between light and dark areas.

Flesh Wounds (http://www.lisa-simpson.net/topic/90.msg8158#msg8158)
I wouldnt really call this a picture. I think its just words with a Lion shaped sketch placed between them. I especialy noticed you changed one word to make it sound more effective that isnt originaly in the song.
The original:
"The way I’ll hurt myself again just to get back at you"

(On a side note, What does QFT (http://www.lisa-simpson.net/topic/90.msg8172#msg8172) mean? Sounds offencive, like most acronyms.)

Hit The Floor (http://www.lisa-simpson.net/topic/90.msg8158#msg8158)
Errr... I think I'll pass if you dont mind.

Imaginary Lisa (http://www.lisa-simpson.net/topic/90.msg8522#msg8522)
Horrey! Back to happy pictures. :)
This reminds me a LOT of Gustavo's art work, with the flowers and vast mountains. But... er, I cant see much past that.  I think you should really try to outline your pictures in deeper colours because I'm really having trouble seeing them. Not sure if I'm the only one with this problem.
Anyway, I think you've done very well to create this Rach, Lisa is well draw. I like the wind flowing through her hair, and her thoughtfull pose. Its very nice. :)

And thats that... Hope to see more from your art. Preferably happy pictures. ;)

Well Rach, I do believe I owe you a bit of an apology... Looking back over previous posts here it seems that my prior comment on your final art piece was pathetic at best  No clue what I was thinking at the time, probably just rushing. Anyway, I'll just go on and post what I really think of it...

The mood is a great contrast, on one hand having mellow tones such as blue, and on the other hand, bright yellow and red, balanced out with a dark green. The flowers, faces, hands, they seem so free, and this I love in art. The fact that it doesn't have to be straightforward, it can give off such complex moods and feelings. And by looking at it, you don't so much understand the mood as you do feel it.

Great job on the flowers, as well - the petals look very real, as if you could reach out and feel them. The hands, as well, you've done an excellent job on the joints and the ring in the top left, if maybe one finger is poking off the side in a bit of odd way.

Very good job though :) And sorry once again that I didn't previously give it the time it deserves.

Wow...O_o
Can't say I was expecting this from you guys but, thanks :)

Casper - Must have taken you a while, can't believe it went that far back  and commented on, well, nearly all of them but I'll let you off ^_^; Not all of them bring back such good memories, however there's one sad one, "Wondering Bastet" which I recall drawing when I was in a pretty good mood at school O_o and I never thought about colouring it till you mentioned...could try it I guess :)

I'm surprised a lot of people like my Lisa lion so much too O_o I always preferred how the Bart one turned out :p which is why I just usually uploaded that one...but then, what do I expect from a Lisa forum I guess :gigi:
Funnily enough just yesterday as I was sorting out more of my art, I found some more recent TLK/Simpson sketches so might try to scan them at some point as they're more recent :) Drawing Simba in a Simpsons style could be interesting though, but he'd probably end up looking like a normal little boy if I did >_< Could try though...

"Breaking Free"...well...was mention about it being a phoenix which is a mythical fiery bird if you look back properlly ;) but nm. Seigo fat? Nah :p Never intended that, if you look at real lions they tend to all look a bit podgey since they're so floofy ^_^ He does look a tad green due to the dark/black shading I did over the yellow at a low opacity but it was just for experiment really :) I've found some people prefer my usual shading to my gradient and others who prefer the gradient to the normal...so..dunno :p I'd use gradient again but not all the time since it took quite a while to figure it out >_< Even then I haven't fully got it :p

"Fresh Wounds", I'm aware I changed the lyrics to this as at the time, wasn't by accident. I never knew what QFT meant either...It does sound offensive though and well, I wont post what I guessed it was on here ^_^;

"Hit the Floor",..I'm aware this one has disturbed quite a lot of people more than I thought it would O_o I never intended to anyway, so..sorry I guess... I wasn't really picturing this as myself which I feel a lot of people seem to think this, but it was a idea I had in my head before I even felt bad, so I guess..that is kinda disturbing O_o *has freaked herself out x_x*

"Imaginary",..well...I think I will try later today so outline it better :), clean up the sketch a bit, with a darker pencil too in hope it will pick up better on the scanner... then post again and see if theres any more changes that need to be done before I paint it. I probably won't outline the flowers cos if I am to paint it, I could use the brush for that effect ^_^

Anyway,..overall a big thanks Mat *hugs*  I will try to do more happy pictures, infact, I have one right now which I will upload ^_^

George Harrison - Thank you for clearing the "QFT" thing up :gigi: and don't worry about your comment on my final art piece, but I appreciate it :) I used reference though. My friend's hands,..she does have very long, thin hands :p and can do some pretty weird things with them :gigi: so,..look odd in places but, my teachers understood why :p I am pleased to say I got a A for that exam, however a B overall due to my other work unfortunatly :( But I've got over that for now :) Just need to work a little bit harder for my A2 (was only a few marks off anyway).
The flowers were also real life observations too, used fake ones ^_^ Was really quite fun to paint, I ENJOYED a exam

I would like to add though again, to everyone, that my scanner picks up a lot of my pencil sketches really light which is why I sometimes try to change the colours, but it still isn't always clear >_< Pen sketches and coloured art usually show up a lot better on my scanner...I probably sound like an artist blaming their tools but I know it isn't all the scanners fault :p Though I feel the pictures do look better in real life since they always seem bolder than how the computer picks them up.

Anyway, new art! I drew this for a friend who I saw last night, and is heading off to university next week. He's very nervous, can't say I blame him :p So I thought I would do a quick watercolour to cheer him up :) Based this off the Homer goes to college episode :p (NOT the movie ;)) Could have been better, Homer's head still looks off imo, I find him hard to draw anyway, but I got this done in a hour or so, not a few days >_<
So,..here it is :)

Re: Lioness Lisa - it just looks cute, that's all :) yes, it seems to be a simpler drawing comparing to Bart one, but it still looks nice. And don't take me wrong, I liked Bart version a lot, too, he has brilliant expression there. Just with Lisa, it looks... maybe more on-character?

And your latest drawing is awesome! Made me laugh, I needed that so much :D
Hehe, I know one person who would appreciate Homer's suggestion...

Ah, Homer goes to College :P One of my all times favourite episodes, great to see a drawing about it :D

I've gotta say this one looks really nice, Homer and the pig's face are done, well, perfectly from my point of view  Can't really tell what the background is though, and the colouring is lavish and free but still looks nice. Great job on Sir Oinks-alot's sweater too :D Looking good.

excelent work! Rachel your art is cool ... the design of Homer is very good and the pig  is perfect. The scene is of good taste and the combination of colors (pink and yellows) is perfect too... thanks by your art ! :homer:

About Imaginary Lisa.  I love pics with lots of scenery on the back, I was hooked to the mountains and grass in there.   I love, ot used to go to the mountains and climb as a hobby when I was younger, sadly I hated art back then.  I think I was about you age, maybe a little bit younger.   Amazing how things end up sometimes, right?

Anyway, you are getting so used to that tablet that it looks like you did it on a sheet of paper.   Kudos  also on those lions you have made,  I also loved that movie the lion king, and coming with original lions is not an eeasy task specially with one that resembles Bart and Lisa.   So double Kudos to you indeed.

Serge - Thanks and I suppose you're right about the Lisa lion having more character reference :p Good to hear that my sketch was able to make you laugh though :D

George Harrison -
Well, to be honest I had a very small bit of reference too though have drawn Spigerpig before (should upload it one day) so that helped that I've drawn a Simpson style pig before, an must admit, they're fun to draw :gigi: Anyway, thank you :D Also, usually my backgrounds in watercolour are lazy anyway :gigi:

Brakusaetsya -
Thanks though, university is considered very important here ;), most people I've talked to say it was a good experience :)

Gustavo - Hehe, I'm flattered that you think it's perfect :D Especially since it was something quite quick :P So thank you very much :)

Spiderpig
- Homer's supposed to be saying it ;) and thanks :)

OPUS - Well, I'm honored :) I have also done a lot of hiking and climbing mountains before, so they feature a lot in my work as scenery as I find it very inspiring :) The Lion King is a brilliant movie :p It's also what made me love art and start as a child I guess... So, thank you very much :D

Anyway, Thanks to all really, and I do appreciate it. I have been doing more work on imaginary,..no painting YET though..just outlined it better and drew in every single flower :p Soo..
That's all for now :)

Sorry for double post >_< Didn't think I'd finish it tonight but I did...
Flowers didn't turn out so well though unfortunately :( Also had to edit brightness a bit on my computer, hopefully won't be too bright on others...
Might re do flowers at some point...

Hey, this isn't bad at all :) The flowers don't look so much like flowers though, more like autumn leaves. Still, I think this creates a good mood still, and considering it's the right season and all right now. The sun reflected off the mountains in the background is a nice touch too, gives them a sort of majestic feeling, as do the rays from the sun. I like the way they seem to illuminate the clouds.

Overall, good job :) I'd say maybe to work out the white areas around her body, but do what you want with the flowers. Personally, I think they look pretty good as it is, that is if you intend for them to look like fallen leaves.

Always nice to see more from you :)

Imaginary
Your new picture - I think it turned out definitely nice :) The great number of colours amazes my imagination and with its quite bright gamma it gives to you a fantastic feeling of being somewhere out of your usual habitat surrounding. The colouring looks just like drawining with a paints, for sure.

I'm a bit late again so I better get cracking.

homer_and_pig
Your water colouring always leaves the greatest impression on me. It gives a reletively simple sketch so much depth. The sketch itself is good, Homer is in good proportions, but I think it needs a touch of work. His neck line at the back seems too straight, and his 'elbow' curves a little too far down his arm. I certainly wouldnt do any better, however. :P

Send my best wishes to Oliver too. :)

imaginary (coloured)
Yet again with those water colours! Love the warmth you can feel through the colours. I dont think you need to re do the flowers, its part of the style. If you changed them it would be two different styles on the same peice which is risky.

Nice calming pictures, thanks for posting them. :)
(and I hope you feel better soon Pumpkin)

on imaginary.........

I cannot describe the sensations generated by this drawing, (d'oh)

beyond the quality, it is a subject of feelings….
the sensation combinations in a paper piece is wonderful ,your pic is not a happy picture, but it is not a sad drawing either…. perhaps it is serenity or  silence …

nevertheless that capacity is the one that distinguishes between a true artist of a simple sketcher….

thanks by share your art, and please keep drawing you are a great artist....

PD: I am printing the drawing

Ack, I'm the one whos behind with replying right now >_<
Anyway...
George Harrison - Well, no I didn't intend to make them look like fallen leaves really  :red: but now looking at it, they do O_o Never thought about them like that till you mentioned...they did turn out a orangey/brown colour,..which was why I was considering redoing them, adding a bit more pink but then..I didn't want the colour too similar to Lisa's dress >_< As for the white edges..that's my lazy watercolouring for ya ;)
Anyway, thanks a lot :)

Yggdrasill - Thank you and yes, failed to mention I had used watercolours, yet again :gigi: I still need more practise though, but they're fun to use so I don't mind :)

Casper - Hmm, you don't think I should change them? ..maybe I need to have a poll vote on this :p Anyway, thanks Mat.  I'm glad you liked the last two pics Sugarcube ;)

Gustavo
- Hehe, I don't mind you printing it at all :) I'm glad you like it as well :D As for the emotion...well, it isn't a sad pic, more of a thoughtful one I suppose...though, it doesn't matter, it can be interpreted differently by any viewer :p Anyway, Thanks :)

Empethree - *is flattered* ^_^, I'm amazed people would actually want to print my pics out and put them up on their walls XD, I really don't mind at all though :) (long as I'm made aware or this or asked for permission) , I take it as a very high compliment :) So Thank you :D

Now, I do have another picture...I admit not a happy one but it's nothing too dark, however it's now gone half 10 here, got school tomorrow so, guess it will have to wait, and so will replying to every other thread here (Doh) >_<
Anyway, thanks again everyone :)

I lie inside myself forever

What does this suppose to mean? Is this representation of the beautiful background lisa herself?  Beautiful coloring with natural media.   Thanks for sharing it!

Also, I was wondering if you used water colors?

Title: Re: Raven's art

Hehe, think you should ask Amy Lee that ;)
and dunno, the song is very "dreamy" and I just kinda thought about it as Lisa's imaginary land...or just her dreaming of being in a serene environment...just kinda matched up :P
Anyway, Thanks Omar :) (and yes I did use watercolours ;))

Anyway new pic...
I don't normal draw myself simpson styled, haven't for a long time, but at the time it reflected my mood which was..blue I guess...I was also wishing I was some place else than the stuffy common room, so drew myself as I was at the time sitting by a tree on a hill as I was thinking back to past times and past places...
I was feeling sad, felt better later but I'll be honest that the picture is now representing my moods again but for different reasons ...
This was done in biro on some scrappy lined paper...I really should draw in sketch books more...

Sorry for not commenting sooner, I'm just not always that impulsive on commenting <_>

Imaginary
A very powerful image, lying there in the field with her hair swaying with the leaves, just thinking about whatever... so peaceful and dreamy... soothing colors and simple but beautiful details, very touching. Good job.

Sad September
 now that's something! A piercing expression accompanied by outstanding detail work to raise the bar for this picture. A very understandable expression too, one I can really relate to, excellent work on capturing this! (Very nice simpsonification of yourself by the way. ;))

Ahhh I love your style of drawing so much :D The face, the hair... everything looks so well done. I like your way of Simpsonizing, too... Perhaps it doesn't look exactly like yourself, but as I've said already to you, it's not a very rough transition, like some Simpsonifications/Simpsonizations (fun words :P) turn out to be. Everything looks so "right". Great job on the background, too, and the leaves on the trees...

I can empathize with you about wanting to get away to somewhere better...

Kasper - Hey, no worries :), I'm pleased you like my art though :) So thank you ^_^

George Harrison - Thanks a lot also, and yeah simpsonization is fun :gigi:

Anyway, just attaching some doodles today I did in History that turned out alright, quite random but it passed the time :p I did work though, honest, got used to multi tasking :)

Ah, the ancient art of doodling out of boredom :P A favourite pastime of many artists.

These are some pretty good pictures though, agreed on the random part, but still turned out nice. The bird and the girl are nicely done, very intricate detail on the bird's feathers. If you don't mind me saying though, they give the drawing a bit of an emo-ish taste, especially with the addition of the rose... but! Hey! That's not bad, just a different kind of concept :P

The fish and the ripples are done superbly, and of course love to see Burns in there :D Perfect expression, even if the lines around him look a bit rough, and his nose isn't fully closed at the tip. Keep wasting your time in history doodling! :gigi:
