Title: The Simpsons Card Game
Post by: Dagdamor on December 19, 2006, 17:38
I knew such a thing exists, but never paid too much attention to it. For some reason that game makes me curious right now... does anyone here know about it? Can you describe that game, its rules, purpose and so on? Heh, I'm not even sure whether is it a PC game, an online game, or a table one. If the game isn't too complex and the rules allow, I could try to make an online version, I have some experience in that. But of course I need a bit of information first. :)

It's a card game. There are 3 types of cards in SCG: Character, Scene, and Action. Scene cards have specific traits that can be met or not met, depending if you want to complete or trash the scene. Character cards have traits on them, and you must match characters to their respective scenes. Action cards normally influence sudden events, such as drawing extra cards. Once someone completes a scene, they are awarded a point. The first person to 5 points wins.

I read the card game rules, doesn't sound much fun, so I've never tried it.
Seems like senseless cheap merchandising to make money.

Is this the one?

Seems a fairly detailed overview!

Thanks for the good link, but the article seems to be very complex to me (mainly because of the foreign language)... I'll try to understand it properly, but it will take time. Still, the game looks complex and very interesting to me so far. Yeah, it can be a bit childish, but I like card games. :)

Several more questions:
Does anyone here have an actual copy of this game?
Is it possible to order it somewhere?
Are there the scanned versions of the cards available somewhere?

Like we said, it's a card game; not a computer game. Although, I think I saw an animated demonstration of the game on the web somewhere.

I think it's just very complicated, I'm English and I was struggling to understand it!  :red:
I did a quick search and there seem to be a few UK online shops selling it and presumably a fair few in the US as well, I'm not sure what the situation is elsewhere.
I've just had a look at the instructions on the maker's site:
http://www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=simpsons/learntoplay (http://www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=simpsons/learntoplay)
They also look pretty complex though I think they're a bit easier to follow than the snpp link.
I haven't seen any card scans.
(just to complicate matters, there's also a Simpsons version of the Top Trumps card  game...now that I do understand!)

Thank you once again! I think I will be trying to order this game from Amazon, I'm really interested in it now. :)

There was another Simpsons card game I played years ago... I neglected to post really because I've forgoten most about it. However it definatly wasnt the card game mentioned here.

Basicly, it was like Poke'mon in a way. Each character had a set of stats, like: Inteligence, speed (or fitness?), Strength... or somthing like that, and they'd have a number next to them, for example:

'Bart
Inteligence: 64
Speed: 80
Strength: 37'

(not actual figures, just guess work from an old memory)

The rules where, basicly, two people challenged each other with two cards, and stated its best quality, if the other person could beat it, then they win the card.

I'm NOT certain. But, it just didnt sound like the one your talking about.

That'll be the Top Trumps game.   There must be thousands of variations of it out there!

I've bought myself a Simpsons card-game booster pack one day, just as a souvenier, for I don't actually play card RPGs.
As far as I get it, the game is heavily influenced by Magic: the Gathering. It was released by Wizards of the Coast, too. The game has rather complicated rules and seems to be kind of abstract, like chess or convenient game cards. Apart from the pictures on the cards, it has almost nothing to do with the Simpsons, so it is worth buying just as a souvenier... unless you are a fan of cardboard games.

A lot of card games or board games that are made for a certain popular show/book/movie usually only are affiliated with it by name  Still, they are good to keep as souvenirs... if you're into that kind of thing.
