Title: Translations please
Post by: Gazmanafc on December 15, 2006, 15:20
Hey guys, I made a BBC tag for SMF, and I've packaged it up as a mod, I wanna support as many languages as possible. Could you possible translate this into any language you know. Dutch, Spanish, French etc...

Code:
Spoiler (Highlight to Read)

And I'll be able to take it from there. Please use HTML entities for any character such as an accented e etc...

eg: " = "

You can find a list of them here: http://www.w3schools.com/tags/ref_entities.asp

Currently Supported Languages:
English
English_British
Russian (Needs Coding in)
Dutch (Needs Coding in)
German (Needs Coding in)

Thanks
AwwLilMaggie

Thanks guys. I've added them to the first post, and I'll code them in when I can.

Dag, is there a named version of those entities rather than numbers? Like á etc...

I guess so; at least some of the letters can be converted to named entities. But that would be different Unicode characters; in other words, the text will look the same, but it won't be a Russian text anymore. I'd leave it as is.

I'll take a look at the Russian language pack and see how thats enabled, but if it uses named entities, then the mod would have to use named ones rather than numbered.

For some reason I think it doesn't use HTML entities at all, but uses normal Unicode instead ;)
If you'll decide to do the same, you'll need an UTF-8 compliant text editor to code the language file; in that case, you can just copy the first line of my translation (the one that goes in native Russian) and paste it in the editor. That should work.

In German, the line would be as following:

Quote
Spoiler (Markieren zum Lesen)

Dag, I saw that myself it uses the windows-1251 character set. Notepad should be able to read it I think.

Andreas, Thanks. I'll add it to the list. :P

Would you need it in Tagalog? :p I'd be able to translate it to that, but it doesn't seem useful.

Heh. I only want it in languages that SMF supports. :P

Which is why I didnt bother to translate it to Al Bhed!

Are these kinda like what language strings on SMF are?
Man, that would be hard.  :eek:

Not really.

all it is, is $txt['short_description'] = 'The actual text here and a backslash for apostraphe\'s and HTML Edities for such as © for the copyright symbol';

You just translate what goes in between ' and ';

It's cake.
