Here's some good news for The Simpsons fans: Homer and his family are heading back to the big screen.

Creator Matt Groening was so enthused about the reception of the first Simpsons movie last year, that he has now decided to make a sequel.

The animated comedy that went feature-length for the first time in 2007, earned more than 500 million dollars worldwide, reports Contactmusic.

However, Groening also warns fans not to expect the sequel to hit theatres anytime soon -- after all the first film took four years to make.

'It will happen at some point, but I have no idea when. The first one took us four years -- mainly because we don't like to work any harder than we usually do,' he said.

It's nice to hear an announcement, but that's not really much to get excited about. A trailer on the other hand...

...:gigi: Yeeey! I knew it :P
I'm looking forward to it then, however long it takes, I hope it won't be rushed and be good as the first film, although I probably shouldn't put my hopes up too much just incase...since sometimes sequels can be rather poor imo

Nice article, but I don't see any valuable sources... where they got the news from?
Until it gets proven, I'm assuming that Groening didn't say anything ;) but the "news" is good. If they manage to make the second full-length movie, if it won't be worse than the first one (I can't ask for more)... it will be great.

...but even if it was we could still wait for real news

It would be great if they focused on Bart, Lisa (and Maggie!) this time, taking the show back to its roots.

Well, after seeing most of Futurama full-length movies, I will be glad if they (Simpsons creators) would manage to stay on the same level they achieved in the first Movie, I'm not asking for more. They have all chances to do that, latest seasons, to my opinion, show just what you are talking about - I mean returning to the good old Simpsons roots. 20th season is very close to the seasons 1-3, IMHO.

Good (old) news. Hope too - they'll look back on the old seasons.

It's an old thread, but I guess I could only agree with everyone else here in saying I hope they take the show back to its roots (being primarily like the episodes in seasons 3-5). I think the movie was just too much like an attempt to make the Simpsons seem "flashy", I'm sure all of you noticed the animation was much better. Not that the animation in the movie should be bad - but it just didn't feel like the Simpsons.
