Title: [TRANSLATIONS] Around the World in 80 Settings
Post by: Gazmanafc on May 17, 2008, 22:25
Hey folks,

I'm working on a theme for SMF Called "Around the World in 80 Settings" It's my biggest theme, feature wise to date.

It features a hell of a lot of new strings, and I want to go into as much detail with it as possible, and one of those details is translations by default. And the thing about that is I am only able to take care of English and English British by myself.

So a little help with translating the strings into other languages would be really appreciated.

Attached are the two English language files for the theme. To translate simply translate the messages between ' and '; ('Lisa';) if there is an apostrophe then escape it with a backslash before it Lisa's => Lisa\'s. You can also attach your name in place of mine in Settings.language.php as credit, and credit will also be provided to you when I release the theme on the SMF Theme Site.

Regards
Gary M. Gadsdon
Theme Developer, Around the World in 80 Settings

Attachment removed, us the one in this post (http://www.lisa-simpson.net/topic/645.msg14643#msg14643)

As for programming all I know is some basic HTTP, but I do know how to make translations! ^-^
Everything should be in order, but as with all translation, things may be a little bit off. The only thing that I feel I didn't really get a grip on was
$txt['colour_desc'] = 'This is the default country for the theme, this setting will only operate if the Country Toggle Box is selected above. You can purchase more countries from <a href="http://multitalk2.com" target="_blank">MT2-Soft</a>.'
I'm not really sure what this "Country Toggle Box" is, and I definitely don't see it above in this particular file... if you tell me what exactly this is, I may be able to tweak the translated text so that it won't look clumsy. (if it does)

Also translated your referrals to the Simpsons game and those other things not in ' ', go ahead and change those back if you didn't want em translated. =p

Enjoy in any case. z_Z

Heh. Yeah, DONT translate the comments marked with a // please.

The country toggle box is a box that allows you to select which country you want the forum to take as it's design, like England's design will be whites and reds, Scotland will be Blues and whites, Germany will be Black, Yellow and Red for example.

Here's a VERY EARLY shot of it in action (keep in mind, that none of the actual designing is complete, this theme is being built off of my previous theme, Big Super Happy Fun Fun)

(http://babysimpson.co.uk/staff/gary/country-select.png)

Thanks for the translations anyhow.

EDIT: Looks like I forgot to add a string, can you translate

$txt['change'] = 'Change';

as well please.

Cheers,
Gary

There, all done! Restored your comments (too bad, looked awesome ;d) and added the new string.

Enjoy!

+ Kasper provided a Swedish translation (Settings.swedish.php, ThemeStrings.swedish.php)

Cheers.

EDIT: And for languages that use non-latin characters, translation of the word "new" would also be beneficial.

I will do a German translation. What's "$txt['ff'] = 'HP';" - Horsepower? Health Points? Harry Potter? Hewlett Packard? Also, in which file should I add "Change" and "New" translations? Should I use "Du" (personal you) or "Sie" (formal you) as appellation, or use a neutral form?

Title: Re: [TRANSLATIONS] Around the World in 80 Settings
Post by: Gazmanafc on May 18, 2008, 15:37
Health Points. I basically made that setting a collection of video game names for "health" and HP was one of them when I was making Big Super Happy Fun Fun.

Add
$txt['change'] = 'Change';
to ThemeStrings.language.php (since it's loaded everywhere rather than just the settings screen) just after the list of countries.

As for "you" it's not referring to the admin on a personal level, so I think a formal version would be best.

EDIT: I suck. Oh well, I had to add another string to the end of ThemeStrings.

$txt['none'] = 'None';

Ok, here's the German translation. I hope I didn't miss anything. :)

That seems about right. Cool.

+ Andreas contributed the German translation (ThemeStrings.german.php, Settings.german.php)

Cheers.

EDIT: Done.

EDIT: I suck. Oh well, I had to add another string to the end of ThemeStrings.

$txt['none'] = 'None';
I can add that, need to know in what context again though. :P "None" translates as ingen/inget/inga

Title: Re: [TRANSLATIONS] Around the World in 80 Settings
Post by: Gazmanafc on May 19, 2008, 01:21
None as in "Nobody" (heck you could even translate nobody instead if you wanted to) :P

For future language packs, here's updated English files, for current packs, I can just move stuff around as required.

By the way, here's the screen with the settings in action: http://babysimpson.co.uk/staff/gary/ThemeSettings.png

Added string "none" and relocated "change" to under the countries.

Wow! What an interesting project! I only wonder if that SMF is such a multi-cultured community that requires that many languages:-)

(Fulbert thinks is he should try an Albanian version...)

Title: Re: [TRANSLATIONS] Around the World in 80 Settings
Post by: SimpReal on May 19, 2008, 14:00
I'll give it a go too :)

Title: Re: [TRANSLATIONS] Around the World in 80 Settings
Post by: Gazmanafc on May 19, 2008, 14:13
Fulbert, yes we do have a multi-cultured community, and yes it does require many languages, it's mostly for support though. We have Non-English Language boards dedicated to Support, and General Chit Chat. But the community is primarily English since thats the language the entire team speaks.

We do have an Albanian Language Pack, so compatibility in Albanian is available. And I would very much appreciate a translation for the theme.

(Same applies for Marco but with Italian instead. heh)

The SMF Language Packs, listing the languages SMF is available in (http://www.simplemachines.org/download/?languages)
Our Language Specific Support/Discussion Boards (http://www.simplemachines.org/community/index.php?board=12.0)

Okay, here's a shot of the index and theme settings screens for you to see. So far, this is the only complete style. The Land of Chocolate.

Hey again folks.

I added a new feature, which means more strings!

For those who already translated, can you translate and post (no need for re-attaching files, just post them on the forum)

$txt['onlinegroup_key'] = 'Online Membergroup legend:';
$txt['onlinegroup_key_desc'] = 'This will show a legend of Membergroups that has members who are currently online (On BoardIndex)';

$txt['legend'] = 'Legend';

If anyone wants to translate new languages, I've included updated files in this post.

Title: Re: [TRANSLATIONS] Around the World in 80 Settings
Post by: Andreas on June 05, 2008, 10:39
German:

$txt['onlinegroup_key'] = 'Legende f&uuml;r Online-Mitgliedergruppen:';
$txt['onlinegroup_key_desc'] = 'Diese Option aktiviert eine Legende der Mitgliedergruppen, welche gerade online sind (auf der Startseite).';

$txt['legend'] = 'Legende';

Title: Re: [TRANSLATIONS] Around the World in 80 Settings
Post by: Miles on June 11, 2008, 04:36
Is legend really a valid word here? Maybe I don't know all definitions of it, I translated it as "list" anyway since swedish is a limited language. ^-^

Swedish:
$txt['onlinegroup_key'] = 'Användargrupper online:';
$txt['onlinegroup_key_desc'] = 'Detta visar en lista av användargrupper som för närvarande har medlemmar online (på förstasidan).';

$txt['legend'] = 'Grupper';

Translated "Online Membergroup legend:" simply as "Membergroups online:", I'm guessing since there's a colon at the end, that's what's gonna show up in front of the membergroups on the index... should look good and clean. Lemme know if it's supposed to be different or something.

Title: Re: [TRANSLATIONS] Around the World in 80 Settings
Post by: Gazmanafc on June 12, 2008, 20:32
Actually, when there's a _desc string along side a string with a colon, it means it's going onto the setting screen where it can be turned on and off, the word "Legend" by itself is going on the main index.

Like this
(http://i15.photobucket.com/albums/a351/gazmanafc/legend.gif)

In SMF 2.0 the feature would work slightly differently and it's available by default. But this is for 1.1 :P

Anyway, maybe I should've finalised the theme before I started requesting translations, as I keep adding features. Oh well. You guys are cool to help out right? :P Get your names out there to quite literally hundreds of thousands of users.

I've added an attachments adjusting setting that allows you to view them horizontally or vertically. This time around, I'll include what file they would be intended for. Y'all can just post them on the forum again.

Settings.language.php:
$txt['attachment_align'] = 'Attachment Alignment:';
$txt['attachment_align_desc'] = 'This will alter the alignment of Attachments in the Display. Setting this to Horizontal will show attachments horizontally on a single line (mostly the images at least), while Vertical will give each attachment it\'s own line. <strong>TIP:</strong> Setting this to horizontal will save on your users\'s scrolling</strong>';

ThemeStrings.language.php
// Attachment management with crazy ass string names. :P
$txt['filesize'] = 'Filesize';
$txt['dimensions'] = 'Image Dimensions';
$txt['snake'] = 'Viewed';
$txt['eater'] = 'Downloaded';
$txt['sniper'] = 'Horizontal';
$txt['pistol'] = 'Vertical';

Title: Re: [TRANSLATIONS] Around the World in 80 Settings
Post by: Miles on June 14, 2008, 22:47
$txt['legend'] = 'Grupper';
if that's what'll show on the index, this'll make more sense. Just "Groups", can use "Användargrupper" instead if you want it to say "User groups", but the above code looks best for the swedish one imo.

I'll be gone from the forum for a while, if you want me to keep translating into swedish, add up features until you're basically done and send 'em to scape_miles@hotmail.com (including the ones in your last post, not in the mood to translate right now).

Title: Re: [TRANSLATIONS] Around the World in 80 Settings
Post by: Andreas on June 14, 2008, 23:12
<strong>TIP:</strong> Setting this to horizontal will save on your users\'s scrolling</strong>'

(quoted, so you can see it better)

I guess the last "strong" is superfluous, right? I'll translate later, when you're finished with adding new text strings, I'd say. ;)

Title: Re: [TRANSLATIONS] Around the World in 80 Settings
Post by: Gazmanafc on June 15, 2008, 00:02
Heh. Yeah, that second </strong> can be done away with. Since I'm possibly gonna keep adding settings, it would probably be better if I just waited until the theme is nearly ready for release then just mail you packs to translate.

Title: Re: [TRANSLATIONS] Around the World in 80 Settings
Post by: Gazmanafc on August 01, 2008, 09:11
Okay, I think the theme is about complete, just gotta make some country packs, and that's about it.

The theme contains 70 settings, so ten short, but I ran out of ideas. :P So what the heck... :P

EDIT: Please dont translate the Theme's name.

Cheers.

Er...

i completely forgot about this.  :o
I promise that after i'm done with the simpsons entry for the competition i'll go back to this. I should have less work hassle too. Sorry for my absence.

Title: Re: [TRANSLATIONS] Around the World in 80 Settings
Post by: Gazmanafc on August 01, 2008, 10:42
Meh, it was probably better that you forgot about this topic since I spent time actually developing the theme itself, and there were significant changes to it.

Though, for Italian, I think a member on MT2 (Ivan (http://multitalk2.com/index.php?action=profile;u=702)), he says he can do Indonesian and Italian, but I don't know which he's doing first. So you might not need to bother in that case. I'll keep you posted. ;)

I assume the "Mr. X" part in ThemeStrings is supposed to be the same as the standard text strings that appear in the SMF Admin Control Center? Wouldn't it be easier to use the text strings from the available language files? In any case, I just copied them over.

What exactly is this supposed to be?

$txt['core'] = 'Core (One Cell)';
$txt['classic'] = 'Classic (Two Cells Small Text)';
$txt['special'] = 'Special (Two Cells Large Text)';

I hope you didn't change anything of the text strings or variable names that I translated a while ago, since I simply copied them over from my older files (minus the ones that do not exist anymore).

Title: Re: [TRANSLATIONS] Around the World in 80 Settings
Post by: Gazmanafc on August 01, 2008, 13:00
Yeah, perhaps I should explain about setting, it is kinda weird. It goes in conjunction with the $txt['post_topic'] setting.

It changes how the posts/topic layout is handled on the board index.

(http://babysimpson.co.uk/staff/gary/boardindex.gif)

It became kinda a fad for people in their themes, so I thought why not, it'll add a new setting. :P And indeed, no variable names have been changed since the last set of files I uploaded.

I assume the "Mr. X" part in ThemeStrings is supposed to be the same as the standard text strings that appear in the SMF Admin Control Center? Wouldn't it be easier to use the text strings from the available language files?
True. I would've preferred really to have used the actual strings from the other language files, but they aren't called for use on the index page, only the specific page they are on, in this case, the admin center.

All, here's a complete screenshot of the Theme Settings page in action so you can see how things are going to look there.

Andreas - hows the German pack coming?
Marco - I have an Italian pack now, so you can relax and concentrate on something more important to you. ;P
Anyone else who wants to translate - You're welcome to do so.
(As of 3:02 am GMT, 11 August the languages available are American, British, Italian, Swedish and Danish)

I've added support for two of the more popular portal packages for SMF, SimplePortal and TinyPortal. Can I get translations on:

$txt['sportal_mod'] = 'SimplePortal Support:';
$txt['sportal_mod_desc'] = 'This will activate the Simple Portal Forum Link (The mod <strong>does</strong> need to be installed, download it from <a href="http://simpleportal.net" target="_blank">SimplePortal</a>)';

$txt['tportal_mod'] = 'TinyPortal Support:';
$txt['tportal_mod_desc'] = 'This will activate the Tiny Portal Forum Link (The mod <strong>does</strong> need to be installed, download it from <a href="http://tinyportal.net" target="_blank">TinyPortal</a>)';

Just post them onto the forum, there isnt any need to attach files.

Cheers.

Title: Re: [TRANSLATIONS] Around the World in 80 Settings
Post by: Loïc on September 27, 2008, 14:36
Here is the French translation:

$txt['sportal_mod'] = 'Support du mod SimplePortal :';
$txt['sportal_mod_desc'] = 'Active le lien vers Simple Portal (Le mod <strong>doit</strong> être installé, téléchargez-le depuis <a href="http://simpleportal.net" target="_blank">SimplePortal</a>)';

$txt['tportal_mod'] = 'Support du mod TinyPortal :';
$txt['tportal_mod_desc'] = 'Active le lien vers Tiny Portal (Le mod <strong>doit</strong> être installé, téléchargez-le depuis <a href="http://tinyportal.net" target="_blank">TinyPortal</a>)';

Title: Re: [TRANSLATIONS] Around the World in 80 Settings
Post by: Andreas on September 27, 2008, 14:54
And the German one:

$txt['sportal_mod'] = 'SimplePortal-Support:';
$txt['sportal_mod_desc'] = 'Aktiviert den Simple Portal Forum-Link (der Mod <strong>muss</strong> installiert werden, er kann von <a href="http://simpleportal.net" target="_blank">SimplePortal</a> heruntergeladen werden).';

$txt['tportal_mod'] = 'TinyPortal-Support:';
$txt['tportal_mod_desc'] = 'Aktiviert den Tiny Portal Forum-Link (der Mod <strong>muss</strong> installiert werden, er kann von <a href="http://tinyportal.net" target="_blank">TinyPortal</a> heruntergeladen werden).';

Also, can you please check the Settings.german.php again; apparently, I misplaced some closing parentheses in the strings like those above. They should be located at the end of the line, in front of the full stop, rather than right behind the </a> tag.
