Title: Promotional art

This was suppose to be the front page for a group I'm creating, but it was not good enough, sadly.  I guess its ok if I post it here.   more to come.....

This is the originality! I think a good drawing, aesthetics is perfect and unusual style .. (caramba realmente amo ese toque frances en el dibujo y ese lapiz en la oreja es genial!)

thanks by posr your art Omar  :)

Nice one. And what a magnificent hair she has. But what I like more is her face expression. The colours that chosen are easy and gentle.

Looking nice! I like that pencil in particular. It's funny that some of the spikey that present as the construction lines, absent in the final drawing - like there is a different sketch behind Maggie. The shading is also well done.

The colors vesrion is the best ! For some reason my mind can not be away from those eyes  .... modeling is so cute, and though unusual colors are great  ;)

lisa says: gustavo save the image)....

Green eyes :) child of the nature...
Like the colored version a lot, good that you decided to repaint the pacifier the more "natural" colors. Well... I have a doubt that grownup Maggie would wear her sucker in any and all circumstances, looks like a stereotype to me. Also, her hair looks too simple and "heavy", although I'm not sure how her hair really should look like :) Those are all nitpicks. Great job with her clothes, and I like the idea. Although, Lisa would be a better candidate for Pocahontas crossover pic IMHO, because unlike Mag, she likes both the nature and Indian culture a lot.
Nice picture, keep drawing!

The pose is nice, but the green eyes scare me...

Title: Competition Entry that could not be......
Post by: OPUS on April 27, 2008, 20:34
Me and my silly big Melon.  If I would have planned instead of focusing on a silly situation days ago then I would have a entry just fine, but for now, this is something I did today for the competition.   It was against the rules to be accepted , so I'm just going to post it here for your hard critique and opinion.

Please use hard critique

Title: Re: Promotional art
Post by: Vicky on April 27, 2008, 22:29
I'm not very good with critique so I made this... it's what Bill Morrison has done for me when I got stuff wrong :3 I just drew the mistakes over the top of your picture. And sorry, Paint Shop Pro was the only program I had to do it. I hope it helps.

Title: Re: Promotional art
Post by: OPUS on April 27, 2008, 22:49
Thanks a lot , Vicky. ;)   Wow, man.  Its amazing how it differs from the original groening style, plus that left hand was kinda messed up. : Of course I wanted to make Bart a little older, so I took his big belly off.

Title: Re: Promotional art
Post by: CargoOfDarkness on April 29, 2008, 15:54
I like your styl better like that "standart" groening one... keep your styl.

How about some completely done work, finished pictures instead of scetches? With backround and such things. Would be nice. :)

Title: Re: Promotional art
Post by: El_Barto on April 29, 2008, 15:59
Hard critique? Heh, I can't find anything to criticise, sorry :/ Anyway, I like that pic, and like CoD said, keep your style and never change it :)

And I would also like to ask for some pics with backgrounds and stuff like that :p

Title: Re: Promotional art
Post by: Empethree on May 03, 2008, 00:01
i gotta agree with the "keep your style" posts here....... If every picture was groening perfect, then it shows no individuality, not saying i dont like those pictures and its the poses used that make the picture, but the little deviations mark a charming individuality and someone elses take on things.

The promotional 2 picture is fantastic, it shows a grown up Maggie how I would imagine she would be, the eyes are a tad too green for my liking, they distract from the rest of the picture, but thats my fav pic of these.

Good work :)

Carl

Post by: Black_raven on May 04, 2008, 18:35
Although  your art is not completely spot on, you still manage to pull it off with the style in which you draw the characters :)
My fav so far is the first promotional art you've done :) Eye catching and well drawn :D
Though as El Barto's mentioned, would be nice to see more background work sometime ;) Otherwise, it's all good work :)

Title: Re: Promotional art
Post by: SimpReal on May 09, 2008, 08:28
Hey, i like the green eyes  :D

I agree with what others have said more or less, sure your style is quite different from the original Groening's... Vicky's "correction" to your picture showed that in a very convincing way.
Still, i wouldn't push you to try and change your way of drawing the characters, aside maybe a couple of recurring "mistakes" that you often do, for example... the "fat" lower lip overlapping the neck, the skinny neck/big head, the arms and legs having sometimes too "realistic" elbows and knees.

That said, i think your "promo art 2" picture is the one i love best, a bit for the green eyes too, much more for Maggie's expressio nand nice clothing, and is overall drawn in a very personal and distinctive way.
Looking forward for more. :)

"Bart_el_Barto" - hey, it's great! I know you wanted some criticism, but I don't see much mistakes on this drawing. And even Vicky's version doesn't differ much (although those modifications make sense, most of them are tribute to the canonical Simpsons style, not real proportion mistakes or such). Bart has nice expression and the sketch turned out nicely IMHO. My only plot-related nitpick is that while he holds paint in his hand, he's unable to use the slingshot. :p But that's a small thing.

Hah, hah.hah!  Lisa rivalry with Allison was always and will always be something to consider.  Fan-art included.

Title: Re: Promotional art
Post by: Dagdamor on May 25, 2008, 22:55
Aaargh! My eyes! o_O
Not sure why, but this kind of Lisa looks really disturbing :D Allison turned out much better.
I hope this is just a matter of tastes... and other artists will find it better, but Lisa, especially her nose and mouth, looks so weird to me...
On the other hand, her dress looks good, for sleeve-less one. Nice touches with that side-slit and bottom spikes (Lisa wouldn't be Lisa without them).

Title: Re: Promotional art
Post by: Maléfix on May 26, 2008, 00:23
You made her alot human, but I don't think that's how she'd look like as a human. She doesn't even have a slight overbite... o_O
But that's just how I'd imagine her. It seems you're not. And Allison is really better, like Dag said.

Does anyone here knows Cantinflas?  Ok, this is a concept drawing of an animation I'm working on , not just scribbles moving around.   It will take me a whole more time to do this animation that the maggie avatar thingie.   I just wanted to find out if any of you guys know Cantinflas.  He was a great Mexican comedian during the 70's.  Sadly, he died a few years ago.  He was very humanitarian.  While alive he built schools and hospitals for the needed.

Ah yes, Cantinflas, or Mario Moreno if you want to call him by his actual name... I don't know him all that well, but I've definitely heard of him. And judging from the pictures I've seen of him, you've done a nice cartoon adaptation here. :)

Title: Re: Promotional art
Post by: OPUS on June 01, 2008, 02:59
Thank you, G.H.  I knew someone was going to recognize the pseunomium, but I never thought it was going to be you.   Yeah, it was kinda of hard to get him look cartoonish without messing it up.  Right now I've done about 10 drawings but because he is suppose to be dancing thats quite a few, still.   I have a long way to completly finish. ;)  Do you remember how he used to dance with those pants halfway down. It cracks me up everytime I see his movies and white humor.

Talking about something else.  Tomorrow are the finals for the Mexican-soccer tournament.  Santos vs Cruz Azul. Ofcourse I dont like the people from the capital, and because I was born up in the northen states I'm betting on Santos Laguna to win.    Monterrey, my native city, lost in the semifinals just because of one goal.  So sad!  :(

Ok, here it is....

Sorry, I've just noticed that his ear is way too small. Talk about not seeing your mistakes while drawing , but then seeing them later after is too late.

Hehe, yes... and it may have been difficult, but I really think you pulled it off well. Not so long ago I saw someone else's cartoon adaptation of him, it looked pretty similar to yours.

Nice new pic by the way, Bart's ear actually doesn't look too small, and if you hadn't mentioned it I probably wouldn't have noticed it.

Loving the sketches........ simple but exceptionally done.

Lisa and Alison pic..... hmm i think alison is drawn exceptionally well.... but I agree with dag that Lisa looks a bit strange..... the expression reminds me of those robots in cartoons which try and blend in as a human with hilarious results...... gotta say great idea though :)

*Warning*  This pic shows plenty amounts of yellow

I got a little bit of time, and seriously I got bored and a little non motivated to even go to work today.   There has been a lot of the same lately.   I drew this as a quicky and at the end I ended up coloring it in a way I never tried before.  The result, well, I cannot say and is up to you to concrit this image not mine. Enjoy!  :)

Title: Re: Promotional art
Post by: G.H. on August 21, 2008, 19:50
Looks pretty good, Omar. My only complaint is that the outline of her tail underwater looks a bit crude, just like someone drew a shaky pencil line. But the coloring is good (she even looks a bit tan) and the face and body are perfect.

Title: Re: Promotional art

I really like that. especially the hair for some reason  :D

Title: Re: Promotional art
Post by: Empethree on August 21, 2008, 20:12
Like that picture,as D.B> said... i love the hair too, it has an "angular" crudeness to the spikes which actually suits the picture. Again the fault is that pencil line which looks out of place and where the rock dissapears into the water... just looks wrong. Otherwise great picture!

Thanks a lot guys!  You know, I've never imagined to have more comments on a pic that I almost didn't pay attention to, more so than to other one more elaborated.  But maybe when something is more original it creates that more artistic view, sometimes.   :gigi:  I never cared for the result and just went crazy with the tablet.  Lets just say that it was a glorious experiment and the result is yelling at me to have more of these crazy experiments.
This is the pic without those unwanted lines:

great work opus........ makes the picture so much better :)  :D Though the silhoette underwater should be more distorted by the waves, the silhoette on the original seemed more beleivable.... still does not stop me loving the pic though!

Title: Re: Promotional art
Post by: Andreas on August 22, 2008, 10:44
Omar,

this is a very sweet picture indeed. It's probably not that elaborated, but being so spontaneous surely helps to love it anyway. I've seen many artists who did some scribbles or very quick colorings in just a few minutes and found them subpar, but because they came out in a constant creative flow, rather than putting a lot of work in them, they are "artistic" in their own way.

Title: Re: Promotional art
Post by: Dagdamor on August 25, 2008, 22:22
This picture deserves more opinions... I apologize for my slowness :)
OPUS, I've shown your last drawing to many people, some loved it, some admitted that it makes them feel uneasy, because Lisa (or Maggie) looks very young, despite her attributes of a grownup person. Not sure who is right, to me she looks like a perfect mermaid teenager :) Maybe because of her head (it's a bit big compared to her body) and her bulgy eyes. But still, it's a great picture, I liked it a lot. Keep drawing!

Title: Re: Promotional art
Post by: OPUS on August 25, 2008, 22:59
Thanks Serge for your comments.  Now, about those attributes.   I never imagine that some one would feel uneasy about this kind of picture,  the warning in the previous post was just a joke, and I do think that there is nothing to hide or to show.   The little mermeid was just a teenager when the first movie and it was ok.  I guess it all depends on who is looking at the picture and as you give to understand people think different.  Nothing wrong with that.   About her head being too big? Well, keep in mind that most of that is nothing but hair and sorry the pic was done in a rushed so Yeah It might be a teensy bigger that the way is suppose to be.    Again thanks for your sincerety.   :)

Title: Re: Promotional art
Post by: CalculatedChaos on August 25, 2008, 23:35
Nice work, OPUS.
It's very smooth for what you claim was a rush job. ;)
The head is fine, by the way.
Man, I wish I had your talent for lines that don't spell things... it's a true work of art.
Seriously.

Title: Re: Promotional art
Post by: CargoOfDarkness on August 26, 2008, 17:10
I like the drawing a lot, and the hair styl is something very special that defines you and your art. Things that are not drawing skill related: Your choice of Lisas color is very wirred and wrong in my eyes. Bit slighly brighter yellow would have done the job - but as I said, not a matter of skill, a matter of a bad decision you took. :D ;)

Well, the water is not really well done, you can do that better, I know it. Try to mirror the image on a second layer behind the main layer and use that "finger"-icon-tool (dunno the english name) to sponge wild around... than fade the colors a bit - you will get a excelent water result.
I think Beb did it well on her "Ganges"-picture.

What else to say as
[Peter Griffin]
"Go on..."

I must say, I like the choice of colour in this pic.   The darker yellow, along with the shading and highlights and the colour of the sky give it an early evening feel.   I imagine Lisa looking out to sea at a  great big tropical sunset, which whether by accident or design, is rather cool!

Opus
Nice one, it has very warm and easy colours and nice atmosphere in all. As if it was done at the dawn. I wonder - is it Lisa or Mag? As I know you drawing Maggie in the first place than her sister. And the her hairdo is more in "adult Maggie"-style. Lisa looks differently...No?

If you like Bart Simpson, please; *Do not look at this picture*     I'll forever be not responsible for any future hate towards him or any character.   *jokes aside*   Nah, this is indeed an odd picture, but the idea was just to speed color. It took me less than 10 minutes to color this so there is lots of color overlapping here and there.  :gigi:

Bug love is great too, very cute.

Foxy new model is well drawn but I cannot understand what is happening to the lower right of the picture, is that a paw or something that wraps round?

+1 to Casper :) impressive sketch. It's hard for me to judge it from the technical side, but all characters look perfect. Hm, what to nitpick... maybe their feet? :) IMHO, they should resemble human' ones more rather than the animal ones. To look anthropomorphic, they should be able to wear boots. At least that's how I understand anthropomorphism :p
Good job Omar!

the inked (and the original) version that keeps a lot of harmony in the proportions, with a touch of Chibi and a touch of classical (of the sketch of the "old school")... I'm waiting for version in colours .... :)

PD: in the moment of says: "old school" me remember at Mafalda of Quino again...
_______
