We already have a rant thread and I thought it would be nice to have a topic about happy things too, so here's the big yay thread!

I'll start off with this: I finally got my new gfx card to work properly. It pissed me off for nearly 4 days, but I'm glad it works now. :)

Aah, finally a "yay" thread! :D

I finally managed to sell my old pc today, i had it lying around the house for months, and i managed to both make a good buck from it, and make the costumer very happy! Wee!

Speaking of graphic cards, I found a (new) Matrox Millennium P750 for as low as 39 € at eBay today - they normally cost at least 160 €! Obviously, the 3D performance is rather low-end, but there is no better card for ultra-crisp pictures, extremely reliable drivers and native triple head support (for my three monitors ;) ).

Levels of happiness are much too high in this thread... ;)

I got my new PC Tower! An Intel Dual Core With 6.6 GHz, 3 GB RAM, 2 Terrabyte Harddrive, GeForce 8800 and Windows Vista. I installed everything important today (Norton, Outlook, Sims2. Photoshop) and had no problems but this little one with ICQ - when you don´t install it into the path C:/Program Files/ICQ 6... the programm strikes... lol

Well, I am using Vista and I am proud of it. With that grafic drive I am ready for The Sims 3!

Command & Conquere - Tiberium Wars is just Eyecandy right now... :D

According, to Wikipedia, there is - but International Men's Day was introduced only recently, in 1999. International Children's Day is on June 1st, which is my birthday (yay!). :)

Basically cos I have no choice, but wow, I've had such a confidence boost today!
Usually before going in to an art degree, most people have to/choose to go through a foundation course in art and design for a year, before their degree....
As for me, I applied to BOTH, kept my options OPEN :P
and today I had my interview for a foundation course at my local college, after my uni interviews (4/5 uni's offered me a place)
I was turned down..cos I was "too good" :gigi:...which has really made me happy!!
They felt I just didn't need it, already had my focus, and sense of direction, they weren't harsh or mean, just very friendly and advised what it was best for me to do and, it just made me so happy to feel that I was beyond the foundation level :D
Would be sad to leave my friends behind but then again, it gives me more freedom and I'll be able to just "spread my wings" and go on towards a career in art :)...

Sorry if this doesn't make much sense but wheee! :D
So so so so so so happy :)
My decision has kinda been made for me! I dont have to threat about "what ifs" cos I wasn't offered a place anyway :)

Yays for the skating video (= I think it's very impressive, but then, I wanted to skate when I was younger... never got hang of it, couldn't even do a kickflip. Just ride and do some ollies :x I blame my crappy board xP Seems like you're living in a pleasant area too.

That's a mighty fine rig, but where do you get an intel processor running at 6.6GHz on present day consumer market? O_o'
Unless you're not feeling that nothing's wrong, I'd recommend changing OS, Vista is compared to XP nothing but trouble, just superficially pleasing. :X And DirectX 10 has so far proved to be nothing but a huge waste. I'll be quiet now. :p Hope you're enjoying gliding through your new smooth rig anyway!

Not sure what it is that wouldn't make sense, but congratulations! :) Studying at university is my personal telos, and since you're excited about it, I'm sure you'll have a great time, develop alot (as if it's needed :p), and get a real boost into the art community. I wish you good luck in your future hopes of an artistic career. =)

I play on an acoustic guitar. When I learn to play better and better I'll switch to an electric guitar.

I play both Acoustic and Electric guitars, I prefer to practice on the electric simply because it is quieter. Though I just cant get past playing my Bass, i just love that twangy bass line :P

I believe thats a misunderstanding  :D He's probably talking about an Intel Quad Core 6600, which has a base clock speed of roughly 2400Mhz (although it's an overclocking beast. I have its smaller brother Core Duo 6420 and i keep it to 3.2Ghz in daily use with little downvolt and stock heatsink).

^^ Oh yeah, guess I could've guessed. He says dual core though, so I guess it's the C2D E6600 and not the Q6600? xP and does overclocking make you a nerd? I run an E6600 at 3GHz with stock cooling, jolly good fun to be tweaking some performance out of your box, don't really think it's down to the geekery though. :P

Today i've got my first raise!  :D My hard work is finally paying off :) I never asked for it, i didn't expect it, but now my yearly salary is up by a quite good amount and i'm one step further in my contract, always closer to professional levels. Yay!!  :D

This month was rather lucky for Russia... we won UEFA cup (hail to Zenit), won in hockey championship... I will remember that game for long time, and now we won in Eurovision 2008! It's the first time we win this contest. Not that I like pop music (in fact, I hate it with my each bit... :D), but this is still a great achievement! Yay!

Zenit won against Glasgow Rangers, wasn't it? I think Zenit deserved it :)

Portugal got 13th place in Eurovision 2008. I knew we wouldn't win. I kept saying to my parents: Portugal isn't going to win. But they wouldn't believe me. Oh well, at least we participated and that's what really counts :D

Anyway, as for football, this season was the worst of all for Benfica x_x 4th place! They sold all the best players on the team, and now it's going downhill -.-'

I think Benfica won something related to hockey too... I don't know, I'll have to ask my grandpa.

And I hope my beloved Portugal makes it to the finals in Euro 2008. Portugal did get to the finals in Euro 2004 but didn't win against Greece -.-'

Anyway, hooray for Russia (I really mean it, I'm not being sarcastic. It's great :))

Hm, well I had forgotten to mention it, but I might as well say now...

For my birthday a few weeks ago, one of the presents I received was a brand new Fender Stratocaster to replace my crappy Squier Strat. Black body, white pickguard, maple neck & fretboard, this new thing plays like a dream. And to go with it, a Line6 Spider III amp and FBV Express Wah-Wah pedal... amazing new sound and playability. The different tones I can get with this new amp and pedal are outlandish to say the very least.

Now if only I could get my hands on a Digitech Whammy pedal... :P

There was a report today about Germany's performance. Some students had to learn the song in 5min and they were - according to a voice program - much better than the No Angels. But I already thought of Germany being last at the EVSC, we deserve it. There are much better guys than the No Angels.

Heh!   The Squiers are decent instruments and very good value IMO but you will see a difference between them and the real thing.   Sounds like a nice set-up GH, should be very versatile with the Line 6.

Well, nothing too noticeable, but one thing that did give me problems with the Squier was the fact that it hardly stayed in tune, and the whammy bar didn't work at all...

Like Janglewolf said, they aren't bad instruments since they are made by a subsidiary company of Fender, but you will notice the difference between playing a Squier Strat and the real thing. Squier guitars are usually manufactured for novice players.

Well, you can sort any table like that in Wikipedia by clicking the small symbol with the two triangles in the head of the column. ;) I don't care about the Eurovision Song Contest anymore as well, mostly because pretty much everyone is singing in English these days. Back then, I think it was a requirement, or at least suggested, to sing a song in the respective native language. Nowadays, it's just another contest in the line of those horrible talent shows.

Germany's participants, the No Angels, actually started their career in "Popstars", the first talent show we had in Germany. They were better than many others, admittedly, but I'm not sure if they really should represent the best of what Germany has to present when it comes to musical performers... Well, sorry for going off-topic and start ranting, but I just think that the "Yay" factor is pretty low in that case. ;)

Singing the songs in english makes it a generic talent show? :x I'll say, anything that's a competition about who's the best is a generic talent show! Don't like any of it, I never watch this kind of stuff on TV (unless the topic is humor maybe ^-^).

Just wanna add my views on ESC - The voting is the problem with it x_X the "talent" has always been the same imo :P

I think mine is a Fender Squire Strat. I dont really know. When I bought it I just thought "Oh wow a guitar!"  :rolleyes: Cost a bomb but apparently it was a bargain. Worth twice as much as it did when I bought it, so long as I re-string it sometime soon. Just a little knob missing of the, dial, thingie... and the whammy bar doesnt fit. The previous owner (my brothers mate) must have been thrashing it too hard and its snapped off, so it wont work unless I get it out from the inside. I've just become good at string bending instead  :gigi:

Other than that... I dont think I'd trade it for a Gibson Les Paul. This thing has become too sentimental for me. :)
(I would trade for a Flying V though  :gigi:)

Finally after all these months of hell in my life I have something to post in the big yay thread......

After months of depression, I have descided to treat myself.... so I bought myself a new car..... the old one, a Mazda 626, the pic i drew, is 12 years old now and showing some signs of wear and tear, even though it is still a great car..... thought it was time to invest in some new wheels, so i went for it's grandson, a Mazda6 TS... 2nd hand, but only 3 years old.

A bonus yay... AIR CONDITIONING.... woo I hated hot days driving in the old car..... even though it had elec windows and a sunroof, as soon as you stopped the heat was unbearable.

Hopefully, I shall have a much better year from now <touches wood>

The base model is a 1.8, which I can see being more practical for you in this fuel-price-explosion day and age than the others engines. Unless you've unleashed an inner petrol head and gone for the 3 litre V6! ;) Braaaaaghghgh!!!!  :gigi:

Actually you are wrong..... I mainly use my car for getting to work ect with tools bits ect... I still love cycling ect.

Due to the strange hours I work and long days I do not find as much time to cycle out of work as I would like, plus all the other stuff I do.

Yup, that time of year. Just finished my exams also, no more college! Just 4 years of memories and friends coming and going while I was always in the same place. I'm glad to get out of there but will still miss the staff members, helped me out a lot.

It is that time of year indeed. Today's my last day of finals (or exams, same thing), after that I'm off for another three months. It's a weird feeling. This year just sort of breezed by.

Well, put off by only a month and a half, I finally got around to taking pictures of my new guitar stuff.

Man... Kinda makes me feel a bit damp just having the 'fake' model. Would like an original quality guitar like that one, since mine was made by Fender under the name 'Squier' (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Squier) which basicly means its a cheap copy of yours (This one (http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/thumb/3/33/SquierStratocaster.jpg/175px-SquierStratocaster.jpg) is the same as mine, notice the different style pickups).
Nice amp and Wah pedal too, any chance of showing off some of your skills to us?

Yeah, well as I mentioned earlier, the two biggest issues I had with the Squier Strat were the fact that it didn't stay in tune, and that the whammy bar didn't work for crap. Other than that the Squier isn't a terrible guitar... but there are subtle differences, for example my Strat is (I'm fairly sure) one of the "Fat Strat" models fitted with a humbucking pickup at the bridge position. Also notice the difference in sizes of the headstocks, the Squier model is slightly bigger. And... I like the look of the maple fretboard much better than rosewood.

As for showing off my skills (what skills? Hehe), I'll have to see if I can get my hands on a camera that actually works... my digital camera has a really second-rate recording feature but it's really grainy and there's no sound, so it defeats the purpose. But maybe if I can convince my friend to lend me his I'll be able to upload something to YouTube.

Woo what a night... had a work night out Go-karting in crawley...... really fun race.... my team came 4th of 7..... want to do it again...

Only one minor gripe..... I had a very bad accident where the car in front spun out in front of me on a corner blocking the track, its the fastest corner of the track too, being omly 2 car lengths behind him i shashed into him and ricocheted of the front of his car and hit the tyre wall at 90 degrees and got flung out of the car, with my chest smashing in to steering wheel  and face and arms hitting the tyre wall and the wall behind that...... OUCH pain.... knocked me senseless for a couple of secs.

A nice picture I was planning on drawing may have to wait as i cannot move my arms at this time and have brusies all over my body and a bent set of glasses and a cracked visor on the helmet...

Still most fun I have had in ages and definately want to to that again :D

I'm so happy today!!! ^_^ My exam results came out and guess what? I PASSED!!! :D And I just wanna say thank you to everyone here at LTS who supported me :)

yay, I just gotta wait until saturday and I'll go to the camp! Not that kind with a tent in a forest, though. But those camps are very fun - there are lots of crazy people like me, and this is only 2 times a year for one week. The easter camp and the summer camp. Maybe I'll tell you what happened then.

Well this is something worth yay'ing about for me...

Today I got my first job. I'm working at a place called AIM Mail Center in a shopping center across the street from my house. It's basically a post office of sorts, but we also sell cards and envelopes, and all kinds of other what not.

The best part is that I didn't even need to be interviewed. The owner of the store called me in today, and I came in expecting an interview. Instead, he handed me a name tag and apron and said, "Ready to get started?" It was a little surprising, but I wasn't going to complain.

I'm working about five hours each day, from 1 to 6 in the afternoon (for those of you in Europe, that's 13:00 - 18:00). I make $8.00 an hour, which is pretty good for a part-time job over here, usually they pay minimum wage, which is $7.45 I believe.

Anyway, this is sort of a milestone, and since my income isn't being taxed (yet), I'll be able to accrue enough to spend on some extra luxuries (hello, Guitar Center! :D).

Nice! Congratulations, man. My first job was at a nursing home. When they tell you, 'Don't get attached to the patients.' they mean it... :(

Now stick it to the man! :twisted:

well can yay again... time for 2 weeks holiday...... :D no more work for a little while, just time to relax :D

Well I have something to yay about.

I passed all my exams!! (exams are the main reason why i haven't posted in a while) Scotlands grading system is weird,
1's and 2's = credit (best grades)
3's and 4's = general (average grades)
5's and 6's = foundation (poor grades)
7 = FAIL
8 = Didn't turn up for the exam
9 = Withdrawn from course.

Anyway my results:
Computing - 1 - English - 2 - French - 2 - Geography - 1 - Graphics - 2 - Maths - 1 - Music - 1 - Physics - 2 -

Big rant turned into a big yay. ;)

As I mentioned in the Big Rant Thread, I'd been meaning to have my guitar restrung for awhile, and also fitted with a black pickguard (in an effort to emulate David Gilmour's legendary "Black Strat" (http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/1/19/David_Gilmour_in_Munich_July_2006-ed-.JPG)). Yesterday I left my guitar with a man who owns a home business dedicated to modifying and repairing guitars. It cost me $50 to have it restrung, the fret board cleaned and oiled, the body and frets polished, and the pickguard replaced. Here are the results...

Of course I'll show you! :P It's all just a matter of getting something recorded and then getting the right things hooked up. I was actually on the brink of uploading something earlier this summer, but the cable that connects my video camera to my computer was broken and had to be replaced... I believe the new one works well though I haven't tried it yet. Rest assured I've been wanting to upload my version of Comfortably Numb to YouTube for criticism for awhile now. :P So you won't have to wait much longer.

OK at work someone was leaving so after work tonight we decided to go to the social club behind my place of work for a curry.

This perticular club is the Wingspan social club at Gatwick airport, (for British Airways employees but also open to the public.

We got in and took our table and noticed a band setting up on the stage.

Turned out to be a bery good Blues and rock band, with a great guitarist. Not many places where you can enjoy a Chicken Korma with everyone singing along to Mustang Sally, rock me baby, Hoochie Coochie Man and many songs made famous by BB King, Jimi Hendrix, Prince and blues artists all mixed up.

A very fun foot tapping night.

If anyone in england has the chance to see RoadRunner Blues highly recommended.

Well, two week ago I was given a place at a local university centre in Oldham, studying a foundation ICT course. So errr guess it goes here.

Besides all the ICT and business giberish, I study programs such as Flash and learn codes such as HTML, which, if you live in cyber space is no big deal, but I'm loving it. :)

Wish I had done something with my education, fixing PCs is ok for a living but i would never do it in a shop again lol.

I did start learning HTML back in 1998 but i didnt get a chance since and a lot of the newer standards i am rusty on.

As for me, i have two motives of yaying, one small and one big!
The first and less important one is that [nerd mode on] I was lucky enough to find, unharmed in between the ton of crap we have stuffed away for trash at work, a shiny and working P3 1Ghz cpu for my brother's computer, so i can repaier it without spending a dime.[nerd mode off]

As for the real stuff...
