Title: The big yay Thread Post by: Suusje on February 12, 2008, 20:37 We already have a rant thread and I thought it would be nice to have a topic about happy things too, so here's the big yay thread!
I'll start off with this: I finally got my new gfx card to work properly. It pissed me off for nearly 4 days, but I'm glad it works now. :) /me does his happy dance LISA: o_O Title: Re: The big yay Thread Post by: Shadow Nait on February 12, 2008, 21:02 Congratulations with your new card, I hope you're totally happy now :gigi: And I agree there's a need for things like this. But I can't say very much here about myself. Still I haven't too much troubles and it sounds cheerful.
Title: Re: The big yay Thread Post by: SimpReal on February 12, 2008, 21:09 Aah, finally a "yay" thread! :D
I finally managed to sell my old pc today, i had it lying around the house for months, and i managed to both make a good buck from it, and make the costumer very happy! Wee! Title: Re: The big yay Thread Post by: Andreas on February 12, 2008, 23:24 Speaking of graphic cards, I found a (new) Matrox Millennium P750 for as low as 39 € at eBay today - they normally cost at least 160 €! Obviously, the 3D performance is rather low-end, but there is no better card for ultra-crisp pictures, extremely reliable drivers and native triple head support (for my three monitors ;) ).
Title: Re: The big yay Thread Post by: G.H. on February 12, 2008, 23:29 Levels of happiness are much too high in this thread... ;)
Title: Re: The big yay Thread Post by: SimpReal on February 13, 2008, 22:50 Come on, join the fun :p
Title: Re: The big yay Thread Post by: G.H. on February 14, 2008, 00:06 SimpReal
Maybe when I find something worth yay'ing about. Title: Re: The big yay Thread Post by: Black_raven on February 19, 2008, 18:41 ooh cool!
well, my turn! :P I finaly agreed with my art teachers on something, I can do angels for my A2 exam! Finaly, a cool topic!!! Plus it's one my teacher is encouraging me to do rather than act all tense about it!... *is happy about her art work for once* ^_^ Title: Re: The big yay Thread Post by: Andreas on February 19, 2008, 22:10 Angels, like Lisa with wings? ;)
Title: Re: The big yay Thread Post by: Black_raven on February 19, 2008, 22:17 Wings without the Lisa's for me...Since, well, it is school art...(sorry!)
It will probably be a male, dark angel too...since that's what I'd prefer to draw :gigi: (no offence ^_^; :P ) Title: Re: The big yay Thread Post by: G.H. on February 19, 2008, 23:16 Black_raven
Congratulations on that! :) I look forward to seeing a different take on angels for once here, especially from an artist so talented as you. Title: Re: The big yay Thread Post by: Casper on March 04, 2008, 23:42 Yay! :D
Finaly got rid of all the old skating footage thats been stored on camera tapes for nearly 4 years. Managed to create a little movie of most of the best things which is here, and I do appologies for the incredibly lame title; 'Skate and Devastate' (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9QtoAI8gyWI). Bart, eat your heart out. :P Unfortunatly, for every Yay, theres a Nay. Broke my board, need to buy a new one. Gaah! Title: Re: The big yay Thread Post by: CargoOfDarkness on March 05, 2008, 01:12 Yay!
I got my new PC Tower! An Intel Dual Core With 6.6 GHz, 3 GB RAM, 2 Terrabyte Harddrive, GeForce 8800 and Windows Vista. I installed everything important today (Norton, Outlook, Sims2. Photoshop) and had no problems but this little one with ICQ - when you don´t install it into the path C:/Program Files/ICQ 6... the programm strikes... lol Well, I am using Vista and I am proud of it. With that grafic drive I am ready for The Sims 3! Command & Conquere - Tiberium Wars is just Eyecandy right now... :D Title: Re: The big yay Thread Post by: Dagdamor on March 07, 2008, 23:38 CargoOfDarkness
With that grafic drive I am ready for The Sims 3! Intel Dual Core + Vista = x486 + Win95. :p But congratulations.Casper Wow man, it's fantastic! I'd break my neck in one minute trying to repeat all those tricks you do there so easily... You also chose a very fitting music to add as a background. All in all, that was a surprisingly interesting video, sorry for ignoring it before :) Title: Re: The big yay Thread Post by: Gazmanafc on March 08, 2008, 00:44 Gars just released another SMF theme. So thats something for me to yay about at least. :P Now I can concentrate on a personal one I'm making. :P
Title: Re: The big yay Thread Post by: ametur_poet on March 08, 2008, 01:43 I just won an NES on ebay! :D I'm really happy about that.
Title: Re: The big yay Thread Post by: Fulbert on March 08, 2008, 09:31 I'd like to yell 'yay' to all the great ladies of this forum. It's an International Women's Day!
Or at least that's what Wikipedia says, it's international:-) Anyway, It's quite the hell of a holiday here in Russia, so I'd just like to share the fun:-) Congratulations, our dear ladies, all to best wishes to youse! I think this holiday must be something special for us all, because you know, Lisa is a woman, too:-) Title: Re: The big yay Thread Post by: SimpReal on March 08, 2008, 10:53 ey, Fulbert's Right. Congratulatons and a big 'yay' to all of you, LTS ladies and women! The world would be a dark ugly place without all of you. :D
I wish i could give you all a "mimosa" For good luck and a kiss, but for now, i just send you virtual hugs. :) And to Lisa, our special little big girl of the forum, i wish many years of fandom, even after the show will be forgotten! And of course, lots of ponies. :p Title: Re: The big yay Thread Post by: Dagdamor on March 09, 2008, 23:09 Very late, but I second Fulbert's and Marco's wishes. All ladies of this forum (Lisa including ;)), let the future be only bright for you!
I'm not sure either how international this day is, but our words are sincere so forgive us <:-) Title: Re: The big yay Thread Post by: Casper on March 10, 2008, 11:26 Third'd! Hope international womans day was a good one.. in some way... :)
The only questions left in mind is; whens international mens day? Is there an internation childs day? Title: Re: The big yay Thread Post by: Andreas on March 10, 2008, 13:35 The only questions left in mind is; whens international mens day? Is there an internation childs day? According, to Wikipedia, there is - but International Men's Day was introduced only recently, in 1999. International Children's Day is on June 1st, which is my birthday (yay!). :) Title: Re: The big yay Thread Post by: El_Barto on March 10, 2008, 21:26 Hooray! Starting this wednesday I'm going to have guitar lessons! :D I've been waiting for it since last year's summer. Oh and to all the ladies out there in radio land (LOL) and to Lisa, happy, yet late, women's day! ;)
Title: Re: The big yay Thread Post by: G.H. on March 10, 2008, 22:29 Starting this wednesday I'm going to have guitar lessons! :D Congratulations! Join the club. ;)Title: Re: The big yay Thread Post by: janglewolf on March 10, 2008, 23:03 Yeah, good on you! You won't regret it...your parents might, but you won't... ;)
Title: Re: The big yay Thread Post by: G.H. on March 11, 2008, 05:14 Yeah, good on you! You won't regret it...your parents might, but you won't... ;) You bought a guitar to punish your ma... and you didn't like school, and you know you're nobody's fool... so welcome!... to the machine!;) Title: Re: The big yay Thread Post by: Dagdamor on March 11, 2008, 23:13 Meh... guitar is much better than piano anyway. Both for you and for your surroundings.
Just don't forget that people dislike only badly played music. :p Title: Re: The big yay Thread Post by: Black_raven on March 12, 2008, 18:13 Hehe I am rubbish at guitar, can I join in? :gigi:
Sounds good :D Anyway, I HAVE to let this out! Sorry that its rather complicated... May not make sense to everyone though but nw.. I'M GOING TO UNI THIS YEAR!! :D Basically cos I have no choice, but wow, I've had such a confidence boost today! Usually before going in to an art degree, most people have to/choose to go through a foundation course in art and design for a year, before their degree.... As for me, I applied to BOTH, kept my options OPEN :P and today I had my interview for a foundation course at my local college, after my uni interviews (4/5 uni's offered me a place) I was turned down..cos I was "too good" :gigi:...which has really made me happy!! They felt I just didn't need it, already had my focus, and sense of direction, they weren't harsh or mean, just very friendly and advised what it was best for me to do and, it just made me so happy to feel that I was beyond the foundation level :D Would be sad to leave my friends behind but then again, it gives me more freedom and I'll be able to just "spread my wings" and go on towards a career in art :)... Sorry if this doesn't make much sense but wheee! :D So so so so so so happy :) My decision has kinda been made for me! I dont have to threat about "what ifs" cos I wasn't offered a place anyway :) Uni, here I come! Title: Re: The big yay Thread Post by: Dagdamor on March 12, 2008, 22:57 Black_raven
Art University? Sounds great, congratulations! Just don't become too significant and don't forget about us mortals after finishing it. :p Title: Re: The big yay Thread Post by: Casper on March 22, 2008, 22:09 A small yay for me :)
I learned the intro to my favurite song fluently on guitar, here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7_YWJ61mjdA (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7_YWJ61mjdA) Not exactly Yngwie Malmsteen, but I'm happy. :) Title: Re: The big yay Thread Post by: SimpReal on March 22, 2008, 23:10 Yay, Congrats Casper. Doesnt sound bad at all, and the rythm is right. It'd be great if you learned to do it completely... solo aside, it doesn't seem very hard. If i had an electric guitar i'd try it :D
Title: Re: The big yay Thread Post by: Miles on March 25, 2008, 15:02 Got much to yay about, but the most immediate being that school starts again tomorrow (dang easter holidays), huzzah! :) So tiresome being alone with myself, I'm not much of a company. =p
Casper Yays for the skating video (= I think it's very impressive, but then, I wanted to skate when I was younger... never got hang of it, couldn't even do a kickflip. Just ride and do some ollies :x I blame my crappy board xP Seems like you're living in a pleasant area too. CargoOfDarkness That's a mighty fine rig, but where do you get an intel processor running at 6.6GHz on present day consumer market? O_o' Unless you're not feeling that nothing's wrong, I'd recommend changing OS, Vista is compared to XP nothing but trouble, just superficially pleasing. :X And DirectX 10 has so far proved to be nothing but a huge waste. I'll be quiet now. :p Hope you're enjoying gliding through your new smooth rig anyway! El_Barto Wicked, what kind of guitar do you play on? Blues on a steel stringed acoustic for the win. \^-^\ Black_raven Not sure what it is that wouldn't make sense, but congratulations! :) Studying at university is my personal telos, and since you're excited about it, I'm sure you'll have a great time, develop alot (as if it's needed :p), and get a real boost into the art community. I wish you good luck in your future hopes of an artistic career. =) Title: Re: The big yay Thread Post by: El_Barto on March 25, 2008, 17:43 Kasper
I play on an acoustic guitar. When I learn to play better and better I'll switch to an electric guitar. Title: Re: The big yay Thread Post by: laguna sky on March 26, 2008, 04:43 I play both Acoustic and Electric guitars, I prefer to practice on the electric simply because it is quieter. Though I just cant get past playing my Bass, i just love that twangy bass line :P
Title: Re: The big yay Thread Post by: SimpReal on March 26, 2008, 19:28 CargoOfDarkness That's a mighty fine rig, but where do you get an intel processor running at 6.6GHz on present day consumer market? O_o' I believe thats a misunderstanding :D He's probably talking about an Intel Quad Core 6600, which has a base clock speed of roughly 2400Mhz (although it's an overclocking beast. I have its smaller brother Core Duo 6420 and i keep it to 3.2Ghz in daily use with little downvolt and stock heatsink). /me proved his nerdyness once again ... yay for deep overclocks! :D Title: Re: The big yay Thread Post by: Miles on March 27, 2008, 14:10 SimpReal
^^ Oh yeah, guess I could've guessed. He says dual core though, so I guess it's the C2D E6600 and not the Q6600? xP and does overclocking make you a nerd? I run an E6600 at 3GHz with stock cooling, jolly good fun to be tweaking some performance out of your box, don't really think it's down to the geekery though. :P Title: Re: The big yay Thread Post by: SimpReal on April 10, 2008, 23:14 Today i've got my first raise! :D My hard work is finally paying off :) I never asked for it, i didn't expect it, but now my yearly salary is up by a quite good amount and i'm one step further in my contract, always closer to professional levels. Yay!! :D
Title: Re: The big yay Thread Post by: Beb on April 10, 2008, 23:50 Fantastic! And clearly a sensible move on their part. :D
Title: Re: The big yay Thread Post by: Casper on April 11, 2008, 15:32 Thats brilliant news :) I'd buy you a beer but... since your on more money now... hmm... :P
Joking away, really good news Marco, congrats! :) Title: Re: The big yay Thread Post by: El_Barto on April 11, 2008, 18:27 Indeed, those are great news. Congratulations, Marco! Don't really know what else to say so... Congratulations again :D
Title: Re: The big yay Thread Post by: Dagdamor on April 11, 2008, 23:54 SimpReal
Congratulations, you lucky rascal :D LISA: Finally, one of my friends or relatives has achieved something! *hugs Marco* ...or something close to that :p Title: Re: The big yay Thread Post by: janglewolf on April 14, 2008, 22:04 Agh...late again, but congratulations Marco! You really do deserve it. :lisa:
Title: Re: The big yay Thread Post by: Dagdamor on April 15, 2008, 23:39 Finally, the winter is away from here. The weather is still rather cold, but it gets warmer and there is almost no snow around. It even rains here, I love rain.
Guys, I've survived another winter! :D *dances* Title: Re: The big yay Thread Post by: Casper on April 16, 2008, 00:23 Funny I just watched the new Bear Grylls episode which was about surviving the Siberian winter. Kept having to remind myself you dont exactly live in an eskimo hut and live of Bufallo eye balls! :gigi:
Title: Re: The big yay Thread Post by: Dagdamor on April 17, 2008, 17:53 /me mutters bad words
Did I put the evil eye on it? The next day after my previous post, it gets much colder here, starts snowing again, and right now winter is having another journey through Siberia. Damn, I hate winters so much... Casper Don't worry, we have stereotypes concerning British people here too ;) Title: Re: The big yay Thread Post by: Casper on April 17, 2008, 23:52 Certainly dear chap! Pot of tea? :gigi:
Title: Re: The big yay Thread Post by: Dagdamor on May 25, 2008, 23:15 Casper
LOL :D This month was rather lucky for Russia... we won UEFA cup (hail to Zenit), won in hockey championship... I will remember that game for long time, and now we won in Eurovision 2008! It's the first time we win this contest. Not that I like pop music (in fact, I hate it with my each bit... :D), but this is still a great achievement! Yay! Title: Re: The big yay Thread Post by: El_Barto on May 26, 2008, 00:45 Zenit won against Glasgow Rangers, wasn't it? I think Zenit deserved it :)
Portugal got 13th place in Eurovision 2008. I knew we wouldn't win. I kept saying to my parents: Portugal isn't going to win. But they wouldn't believe me. Oh well, at least we participated and that's what really counts :D Anyway, as for football, this season was the worst of all for Benfica x_x 4th place! They sold all the best players on the team, and now it's going downhill -.-' I think Benfica won something related to hockey too... I don't know, I'll have to ask my grandpa. And I hope my beloved Portugal makes it to the finals in Euro 2008. Portugal did get to the finals in Euro 2004 but didn't win against Greece -.-' Anyway, hooray for Russia (I really mean it, I'm not being sarcastic. It's great :)) Title: Re: The big yay Thread Post by: G.H. on May 26, 2008, 01:56 Hm, well I had forgotten to mention it, but I might as well say now...
For my birthday a few weeks ago, one of the presents I received was a brand new Fender Stratocaster to replace my crappy Squier Strat. Black body, white pickguard, maple neck & fretboard, this new thing plays like a dream. And to go with it, a Line6 Spider III amp and FBV Express Wah-Wah pedal... amazing new sound and playability. The different tones I can get with this new amp and pedal are outlandish to say the very least. Now if only I could get my hands on a Digitech Whammy pedal... :P Title: Re: The big yay Thread Post by: Miles on May 26, 2008, 10:36 G.H.
Aww, what's wrong with a Squier? :P Since you weren't here at the time, I guess I'll say (very late) happy birthday, and congratulations on that new equipment. @_@ I'd buy you your Rick Wright CD, but I'm on a tight budget. ;x Which Spider III amp did you get to go with that guitar? ^-^ El_Barto You seem to be up to date on this, what place did Sweden get? I don't follow these things, but I happen to know which song we entered and I really hope we ended up last. x_X The song is completely deprived of any meaning, and I hate the revolting singer. :gigi: Title: Re: The big yay Thread Post by: El_Barto on May 26, 2008, 14:04 Miles
Gee, I don't really know... But I think Sweden didn't get the last place. I've been googling it, but I can't find anything :/ Anyway, I'll give it a look again. Title: Re: The big yay Thread Post by: Andreas on May 26, 2008, 15:55 I only know that Germany scored a grand last place... :p But Wikipedia knows everything: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Eurovision_Song_Contest_2008#Final
Title: Re: The big yay Thread Post by: Gazmanafc on May 26, 2008, 16:07 The Eurovision is now a load of crap IMO. And I figured that the UK would do poorly. :P
Title: Re: The big yay Thread Post by: Miles on May 26, 2008, 17:38 Andreas
Way to not place the results in any kind of order Wikipedians! x_X Ah well, at least we didn't do well. Hooray! :P And hey, Germany can share the joy with the UK and Poland! ^_^ Title: Re: The big yay Thread Post by: Maléfix on May 26, 2008, 18:05 There was a report today about Germany's performance. Some students had to learn the song in 5min and they were - according to a voice program - much better than the No Angels. But I already thought of Germany being last at the EVSC, we deserve it. There are much better guys than the No Angels.
*rant* :gigi: Title: Re: The big yay Thread Post by: janglewolf on May 26, 2008, 19:04 Aww, what's wrong with a Squier? Heh! The Squiers are decent instruments and very good value IMO but you will see a difference between them and the real thing. Sounds like a nice set-up GH, should be very versatile with the Line 6.Title: Re: The big yay Thread Post by: G.H. on May 26, 2008, 19:36 Miles
Aww, what's wrong with a Squier? :P Well, nothing too noticeable, but one thing that did give me problems with the Squier was the fact that it hardly stayed in tune, and the whammy bar didn't work at all...Like Janglewolf said, they aren't bad instruments since they are made by a subsidiary company of Fender, but you will notice the difference between playing a Squier Strat and the real thing. Squier guitars are usually manufactured for novice players. Anyway, thanks. :) Title: Re: The big yay Thread Post by: Andreas on May 26, 2008, 21:58 Way to not place the results in any kind of order Wikipedians! x_X Ah well, at least we didn't do well. Hooray! :P And hey, Germany can share the joy with the UK and Poland! ^_^ Well, you can sort any table like that in Wikipedia by clicking the small symbol with the two triangles in the head of the column. ;) I don't care about the Eurovision Song Contest anymore as well, mostly because pretty much everyone is singing in English these days. Back then, I think it was a requirement, or at least suggested, to sing a song in the respective native language. Nowadays, it's just another contest in the line of those horrible talent shows. Germany's participants, the No Angels, actually started their career in "Popstars", the first talent show we had in Germany. They were better than many others, admittedly, but I'm not sure if they really should represent the best of what Germany has to present when it comes to musical performers... Well, sorry for going off-topic and start ranting, but I just think that the "Yay" factor is pretty low in that case. ;) Title: Re: The big yay Thread Post by: Miles on May 27, 2008, 08:52 Andreas
Was looking at the scoreboard further down. xP Singing the songs in english makes it a generic talent show? :x I'll say, anything that's a competition about who's the best is a generic talent show! Don't like any of it, I never watch this kind of stuff on TV (unless the topic is humor maybe ^-^). Title: Re: The big yay Thread Post by: Black_raven on May 28, 2008, 13:16 Just wanna add my views on ESC - The voting is the problem with it x_X the "talent" has always been the same imo :P
Just the political crap that goes on which is why many countrys just vote for who they're "friends" with *rolls eyes*.... Title: Re: The big yay Thread Post by: Casper on May 30, 2008, 17:59 (Guitar mumbo jumbo)
I think mine is a Fender Squire Strat. I dont really know. When I bought it I just thought "Oh wow a guitar!" Cost a bomb but apparently it was a bargain. Worth twice as much as it did when I bought it, so long as I re-string it sometime soon. Just a little knob missing of the, dial, thingie... and the whammy bar doesnt fit. The previous owner (my brothers mate) must have been thrashing it too hard and its snapped off, so it wont work unless I get it out from the inside. I've just become good at string bending instead :gigi: Other than that... I dont think I'd trade it for a Gibson Les Paul. This thing has become too sentimental for me. :) (I would trade for a Flying V though :gigi:) On topic with guitars and the thread, might as well post how far I've come so far with it. A short video I made of sections of songs I've practiced. Nothing perfect though, but I'm quite proud of it :) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mMbAANpDJ0c (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mMbAANpDJ0c) Edit: Oh! And the Eurovision Song Contest is about as fair as petrol prices in Britain. I just cant stand watching it... the talent is gastly and the voting is terrible! Title: Re: The big yay Thread Post by: Miles on May 30, 2008, 20:00 Casper
;D Nice (yay for Muse! ^-^), but something's really off on Muscle Museum! :X Either your 2nd or 3rd string's out of tune there or you misread that tab. Oh well. d= Title: Re: The big yay Thread Post by: Casper on May 30, 2008, 22:08 Thanks :) I'll re-check the tabs for Muscle Museum, I may have it in the wrong tuning or something, but thanks for noticing it! At the moment, I'm trying to do 'Yes Please' all the way through, a fun song with plenty of distortion, wheee! :gigi:
Title: Re: The big yay Thread Post by: Empethree on June 12, 2008, 22:15 Finally after all these months of hell in my life I have something to post in the big yay thread......
After months of depression, I have descided to treat myself.... so I bought myself a new car..... the old one, a Mazda 626, the pic i drew, is 12 years old now and showing some signs of wear and tear, even though it is still a great car..... thought it was time to invest in some new wheels, so i went for it's grandson, a Mazda6 TS... 2nd hand, but only 3 years old. A bonus yay... AIR CONDITIONING.... woo I hated hot days driving in the old car..... even though it had elec windows and a sunroof, as soon as you stopped the heat was unbearable. Hopefully, I shall have a much better year from now <touches wood> Anyway... some pics on my site.... http://fun4forums.co.uk/viewtopic.php?p=36834#36834 Title: Re: The big yay Thread Post by: Casper on June 13, 2008, 22:38 Oooohh... thats niiiice :P
Must say, its truely one of the only cars that actualy suits the Lexus style rear lights. Modern, reliable, and nippy too. Without looking on wikipedia, its a 1.8 litre petrol isnt it? *checks* The base model is a 1.8, which I can see being more practical for you in this fuel-price-explosion day and age than the others engines. Unless you've unleashed an inner petrol head and gone for the 3 litre V6! ;) Braaaaaghghgh!!!! :gigi: *is 19 and still can only drive through a controller on a games console* :( Title: Re: The big yay Thread Post by: Empethree on June 14, 2008, 08:23 this is the TS model above the base.... 2.0 :)
being 19 and only driving on games console is nothing to be ashamed of.... i passed my test in 2005...... when i was 25 ;) I still like the ol racing games though heh heh. Title: Re: The big yay Thread Post by: SimpReal on June 14, 2008, 11:25 Nice Empe, very nice, congratulations for your new "toy" :D Now, drive safely, buckle your belt, and score 100'000 points at the loop of death!
Title: Re: The big yay Thread Post by: Black_raven on June 14, 2008, 11:58 As for someone who only really knows the VERY basics about cars (and can't drive yet), must say it looks very nice :)
Very comfy, clean and modern,...damn....all car talk kinda does make me wish I can drive now... congrats though ^_^ Title: Re: The big yay Thread Post by: Shadow Nait on June 15, 2008, 08:21 Empethree
Congratulations with your acquired motor vechicle! Now you're a part of the army of those who thinks they are higher community of people in comparison with us, the pedestrians. ;) Am I wrong somewhere? ;) Title: Re: The big yay Thread Post by: CargoOfDarkness on June 15, 2008, 13:00 Now you're a part of the army of those who thinks they are higher community of people in comparison with us, the pedestrians. ;) Am I wrong somewhere? ;) On the other hand:Me, as an pedestrian or >biker< or "Bahn-traveler", got more money than people from this "higher" community. Har Har! :D Title: Re: The big yay Thread Post by: Empethree on June 15, 2008, 17:35 Actually you are wrong..... I mainly use my car for getting to work ect with tools bits ect... I still love cycling ect.
Due to the strange hours I work and long days I do not find as much time to cycle out of work as I would like, plus all the other stuff I do. I got a car, may as well make it something to enjoy, Title: Re: The big yay Thread Post by: Casper on June 15, 2008, 21:33 Thar's the spirit! :D
There is no better way of transport than the car. Until they make commercial jet packs or teleports, or at least 'till helicopters that are cheap. Its just a shame its always the first thing people blame for melting ice, strangely... I truely believe its a complete outrage that the final 100 years of crude oil have to be spent unnessesarily taxed to hell. Just finished my exams also, no more college! Just 4 years of memories and friends coming and going while I was always in the same place. I'm glad to get out of there but will still miss the staff members, helped me out a lot.
Now, where do I go from here? Title: Re: The big yay Thread Post by: G.H. on June 18, 2008, 15:08 It is that time of year indeed. Today's my last day of finals (or exams, same thing), after that I'm off for another three months. It's a weird feeling. This year just sort of breezed by.
Title: Re: The big yay Thread Post by: G.H. on June 19, 2008, 22:38 Well, put off by only a month and a half, I finally got around to taking pictures of my new guitar stuff.
Here's my prized possession - the Fender Strat (http://i188.photobucket.com/albums/z221/GeorgeHarrison882/IMAG0044.jpg). And what good is a new guitar without a new amp to go with it? The Line6 Spider III (http://i188.photobucket.com/albums/z221/GeorgeHarrison882/IMAG0045.jpg). And last but certainly not least, an accessory whose size does it no justice as far as usefulness goes. The Line6 FBV Express Wah-Wah pedal (http://i188.photobucket.com/albums/z221/GeorgeHarrison882/IMAG0046.jpg). Here's just a shot of me being a typical guitar nerd (http://i188.photobucket.com/albums/z221/GeorgeHarrison882/IMAG0056.jpg). Title: Re: The big yay Thread Post by: Casper on June 20, 2008, 00:00 That looks properly brilliant :D
Man... Kinda makes me feel a bit damp just having the 'fake' model. Would like an original quality guitar like that one, since mine was made by Fender under the name 'Squier' (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Squier) which basicly means its a cheap copy of yours (This one (http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/thumb/3/33/SquierStratocaster.jpg/175px-SquierStratocaster.jpg) is the same as mine, notice the different style pickups). Nice amp and Wah pedal too, any chance of showing off some of your skills to us? Title: Re: The big yay Thread Post by: G.H. on June 20, 2008, 01:41 Casper
Yeah, well as I mentioned earlier, the two biggest issues I had with the Squier Strat were the fact that it didn't stay in tune, and that the whammy bar didn't work for crap. Other than that the Squier isn't a terrible guitar... but there are subtle differences, for example my Strat is (I'm fairly sure) one of the "Fat Strat" models fitted with a humbucking pickup at the bridge position. Also notice the difference in sizes of the headstocks, the Squier model is slightly bigger. And... I like the look of the maple fretboard much better than rosewood. As for showing off my skills (what skills? Hehe), I'll have to see if I can get my hands on a camera that actually works... my digital camera has a really second-rate recording feature but it's really grainy and there's no sound, so it defeats the purpose. But maybe if I can convince my friend to lend me his I'll be able to upload something to YouTube. Title: Re: The big yay Thread Post by: Empethree on June 29, 2008, 23:14 Woo what a night... had a work night out Go-karting in crawley...... really fun race.... my team came 4th of 7..... want to do it again...
Only one minor gripe..... I had a very bad accident where the car in front spun out in front of me on a corner blocking the track, its the fastest corner of the track too, being omly 2 car lengths behind him i shashed into him and ricocheted of the front of his car and hit the tyre wall at 90 degrees and got flung out of the car, with my chest smashing in to steering wheel and face and arms hitting the tyre wall and the wall behind that...... OUCH pain.... knocked me senseless for a couple of secs. A nice picture I was planning on drawing may have to wait as i cannot move my arms at this time and have brusies all over my body and a bent set of glasses and a cracked visor on the helmet... Still most fun I have had in ages and definately want to to that again :D Title: Re: The big yay Thread Post by: El_Barto on July 11, 2008, 11:43 I'm so happy today!!! ^_^ My exam results came out and guess what? Today I got a PS3!!! :D On Thursday I got a new PC and today I got a PS3 :D Only what's left now is my ticket to England. I'm going to visit my uncle. Again, thank you to everyone on LTS who supported me during my exams :) Now, lets party! :D *puts the music on* Title: Re: The big yay Thread Post by: CalculatedChaos on July 14, 2008, 04:06 *parties*
Title: Re: The big yay Thread Post by: G.H. on July 14, 2008, 04:33 El_Barto
Hah, wish I could be as jubilant about my exam results this year... regardless, congratulations to you and welcome to your vacation. CalculatedChaos Ah Magic the Gathering... you don't get any geekier than that :P Heh... seriously though, it looks like an interesting game, but forgive me if I never learn how to play. I never really fancied card-collecting games of any type. Title: Re: The big yay Thread Post by: CalculatedChaos on July 14, 2008, 06:07 *is soul-crushed*
You mean we cardfloppers are geekier than those 35+, pasty, white males who regularly attend 'Furries' conventions? *in best Jerry Seinfeld voice* Not that there's anything wrong with that! Title: Re: The big yay Thread Post by: laguna sky on July 14, 2008, 16:21 see now your stepping into my area there chaos, and you won't survive an encounter with the likes of me. seriously though I am one of those furry people, but I'm only 21. So I will let that comment slide this time :p
Title: Re: The big yay Thread Post by: CalculatedChaos on July 14, 2008, 16:49 No offense intended. ;)
Liking fur doesn't imply anything bad (in fact, when the mood strikes me...), and you are perfectly within your rights to enjoy it. Title: Re: The big yay Thread Post by: Casper on July 22, 2008, 03:02 I'm a bit late but, congrats El Barto! And double congrats for not selling out to Xbox! :gigi:
Title: Re: The big yay Thread Post by: Maléfix on July 23, 2008, 16:03 yay, I just gotta wait until saturday and I'll go to the camp! Not that kind with a tent in a forest, though. But those camps are very fun - there are lots of crazy people like me, and this is only 2 times a year for one week. The easter camp and the summer camp. Maybe I'll tell you what happened then.
TATA TATA TATA - hilfe ein löwe. hilfe ein löwe. WYU! just weird memories of the last easter camp. Title: Re: The big yay Thread Post by: G.H. on July 30, 2008, 03:49 Well this is something worth yay'ing about for me...
Today I got my first job. I'm working at a place called AIM Mail Center in a shopping center across the street from my house. It's basically a post office of sorts, but we also sell cards and envelopes, and all kinds of other what not. The best part is that I didn't even need to be interviewed. The owner of the store called me in today, and I came in expecting an interview. Instead, he handed me a name tag and apron and said, "Ready to get started?" It was a little surprising, but I wasn't going to complain. I'm working about five hours each day, from 1 to 6 in the afternoon (for those of you in Europe, that's 13:00 - 18:00). I make $8.00 an hour, which is pretty good for a part-time job over here, usually they pay minimum wage, which is $7.45 I believe. Anyway, this is sort of a milestone, and since my income isn't being taxed (yet), I'll be able to accrue enough to spend on some extra luxuries (hello, Guitar Center! :D). Title: Re: The big yay Thread Post by: CalculatedChaos on July 30, 2008, 04:50 Nice! Congratulations, man. My first job was at a nursing home. When they tell you, 'Don't get attached to the patients.' they mean it... :(
Now stick it to the man! Title: Re: The big yay Thread Post by: Black_raven on July 30, 2008, 18:24 Congrats :) Sounds good too, and better paid than my first (and last, since) job delivering papers :P
Title: Re: The big yay Thread Post by: Empethree on August 02, 2008, 21:18 well can yay again... time for 2 weeks holiday...... :D no more work for a little while, just time to relax :D
boy have I needed this heh heh. :D :D :D Title: Re: The big yay Thread Post by: CalculatedChaos on August 02, 2008, 22:10 Have fun, Carl! It sure sounds like you needed a break based on your rant post the other day...
Perhaps we can look forward to an update of your fic when you get back and situated? Title: Re: The big yay Thread Post by: Empethree on August 02, 2008, 22:11 Yeah I must get back to that fic and finish the latest picture I am doing.
Spending a lot of time atm setting up new wb server and redoing some of my gaming sites too... no rest for the w..... <snore>....... Title: Re: The big yay Thread Post by: CalculatedChaos on August 02, 2008, 22:17 Well, enjoy yourself. Take some well deserved R&R (people suck man!).
Title: Re: The big yay Thread Post by: Jimmy on August 05, 2008, 13:57 Well I have something to yay about.
I passed all my exams!! (exams are the main reason why i haven't posted in a while) Scotlands grading system is weird, 1's and 2's = credit (best grades) 3's and 4's = general (average grades) 5's and 6's = foundation (poor grades) 7 = FAIL 8 = Didn't turn up for the exam 9 = Withdrawn from course. Anyway my results: Computing - 1 - English - 2 - French - 2 - Geography - 1 - Graphics - 2 - Maths - 1 - Music - 1 - Physics - 2 - Im very happy :D I was expecting a 3 not a 1 for Maths  As a reward im getting a new drum kit or a new laptop... Title: Re: The big yay Thread Post by: SimpReal on August 05, 2008, 14:35 I bet you were happy! :D Congratulations, Lisa is very proud of you! :lisa:
ooo, drum kit! I would love one of those. Title: Re: The big yay Thread Post by: Leif on August 05, 2008, 16:09 Congratulations Jimmy. New Labtop! NICE.
Title: Re: The big yay Thread Post by: G.H. on August 31, 2008, 22:01 Big rant turned into a big yay. ;)
As I mentioned in the Big Rant Thread, I'd been meaning to have my guitar restrung for awhile, and also fitted with a black pickguard (in an effort to emulate David Gilmour's legendary "Black Strat" (http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/1/19/David_Gilmour_in_Munich_July_2006-ed-.JPG)). Yesterday I left my guitar with a man who owns a home business dedicated to modifying and repairing guitars. It cost me $50 to have it restrung, the fret board cleaned and oiled, the body and frets polished, and the pickguard replaced. Here are the results... There she is, Syren, aka the Black Strat. (http://i188.photobucket.com/albums/z221/GeorgeHarrison882/IMG_5749.jpg) :P Both my electrics (http://i188.photobucket.com/albums/z221/GeorgeHarrison882/IMG_5750.jpg), Syren (Fender Strat, left), and No Name (Squier Strat, right) And... two guitar pose shots. As I'm sure you've come to expect from me. My eyes look black in this photo (http://i188.photobucket.com/albums/z221/GeorgeHarrison882/IMG_5751-1.jpg), I had to fix the red eye effect. I love the feel of new strings (http://i188.photobucket.com/albums/z221/GeorgeHarrison882/IMG_5753.jpg). Title: Re: The big yay Thread Post by: SimpReal on August 31, 2008, 22:35 I really like the black Strat, GH! She's a beauty :)
Now, how about you make us hear how they sound? Title: Re: The big yay Thread Post by: CalculatedChaos on August 31, 2008, 23:18 *is mucho envious*
Glad to hear your repairs went well, GH! Yes, please. Regail us with some mindblowing guitar riffs! *settles in and stares for an awkward length of time* ... what? ;) Title: Re: The big yay Thread Post by: G.H. on September 01, 2008, 03:35 CalculatedChaos
SimpReal Thanks. :) Of course I'll show you! :P It's all just a matter of getting something recorded and then getting the right things hooked up. I was actually on the brink of uploading something earlier this summer, but the cable that connects my video camera to my computer was broken and had to be replaced... I believe the new one works well though I haven't tried it yet. Rest assured I've been wanting to upload my version of Comfortably Numb to YouTube for criticism for awhile now. :P So you won't have to wait much longer. Title: Re: The big yay Thread Post by: CalculatedChaos on September 01, 2008, 04:22 Holy crap, Adam.
If you can play Comfortably Numb with any proficiency I hearby volunteer myself to bear your children! :p Title: Re: The big yay Thread Post by: G.H. on September 01, 2008, 05:03 CalculatedChaos
LOL. Thanks. :D Yeah, I've got most of the recognizable parts from that solo down... I do some improvising as well but, if I may say so, I can make it sound nice and Gilmourian. Title: Re: The big yay Thread Post by: CalculatedChaos on September 01, 2008, 05:34 That does it!
*breaks down and forks up the cash for guitar lessons* We will have to have some epic shredfests! Title: Re: The big yay Thread Post by: Empethree on October 04, 2008, 00:42 Time to revive this thread.
OK at work someone was leaving so after work tonight we decided to go to the social club behind my place of work for a curry. This perticular club is the Wingspan social club at Gatwick airport, (for British Airways employees but also open to the public. We got in and took our table and noticed a band setting up on the stage. Turned out to be a bery good Blues and rock band, with a great guitarist. Not many places where you can enjoy a Chicken Korma with everyone singing along to Mustang Sally, rock me baby, Hoochie Coochie Man and many songs made famous by BB King, Jimi Hendrix, Prince and blues artists all mixed up. A very fun foot tapping night. If anyone in england has the chance to see RoadRunner Blues highly recommended. http://www.roadrunnerblues.com/index.html I will try and post some vids and pics from the night. Title: Re: The big yay Thread Post by: Empethree on October 05, 2008, 18:09 Another big yay from me. Checked my email for first time since saturday 6pm and noticed a message.
I have matched 4 balls on the national lottery and won £79 on the weekly £1 subscription i do :D Not the biggest prize but still woohoo!!! /me goes and buys some donuts Title: Re: The big yay Thread Post by: Casper on October 06, 2008, 14:04 Well, two week ago I was given a place at a local university centre in Oldham, studying a foundation ICT course. So errr guess it goes here.
Besides all the ICT and business giberish, I study programs such as Flash and learn codes such as HTML, which, if you live in cyber space is no big deal, but I'm loving it. :) *is already trying to make cartoon animations...before the lecturer has shown how the program works* Title: Re: The big yay Thread Post by: Empethree on October 06, 2008, 20:34 congratualtions casper.
Wish I had done something with my education, fixing PCs is ok for a living but i would never do it in a shop again lol. I did start learning HTML back in 1998 but i didnt get a chance since and a lot of the newer standards i am rusty on. Title: Re: The big yay Thread Post by: SimpReal on October 07, 2008, 21:00 Congrats Casper, but take it slow ;) Don't burn yourself at the start :D
As for me, i have two motives of yaying, one small and one big! The first and less important one is that [nerd mode on] I was lucky enough to find, unharmed in between the ton of crap we have stuffed away for trash at work, a shiny and working P3 1Ghz cpu for my brother's computer, so i can repaier it without spending a dime.[nerd mode off] As for the real stuff... The (almost definitve) plans for my home are in! :D :D :D Oh boy, i cannot believe this. http://realities.simpworks.com/var/casetta2.jpg Now i hve to start to think on how to fill up all that space :D /me thinks tons of lisa plushies for bed Title: Re: The big yay Thread Post by: Black_raven on October 07, 2008, 21:25 Woooww....
Hey that's exciting stuff Marco :) Congrats (again!) :D Title: Re: The big yay Thread Post by: Andreas on October 07, 2008, 22:09 Ohh, two bedrooms! One for you, and one for Lisa, I guess!? ;)
That reminds me, I wanted to post a floorplan of my humble abode myself. It's not entirely accurate, because it's only based on my memory and some measurements, and I just added the furniture in my graphics programm freehand, but hey, you get the idea. :) (http://img135.imageshack.us/img135/5200/myflatbk6.gif) (http://imageshack.us) |
