Lisa, the Simpson!

Knocked this little picure up in Paint Shop Pro this evening while bored... i know its not as good as some of the amazing work I have seen. Also I have not yet got a graphics tablet so drawing via mouse is kind tricky and resiszing kinds make the image look a bit too blocky. I inadvertantly saved a resized image over the 1st drawing so had to scale up and soften the lines and redo the tail alltogether, thus the difference between my avatar and the current image. The 2nd tail I am happier with as it looks like it motion.

it needs a bit of cleaning up to make it better, when i get time :)

Anyway I had an image in my head of Lisa as a shooting star.... may seem a bit mad but hey :)

Next while I could not sleep I was watching simpsons on my TV and came across a strange idea of Lisa trapped inside the TV.... I do not know what i have been drnking tonight. So i spent the last couple of house knocking up a redition of my LCD HDTV and re-drew a picture of Lisa using a reference picture of lisa looking scared. I added the hands on pressing against the glass of the TV screen after as i thought I would add something to the picture.

The second picture is a bit scary but original. Dunno why Lisa looks so scared, I hope that's not because of something she saw on this side of the screen. :D And maybe it's not as good as some drawings here, but it's still very good! So keep it up, you have a nice start.

The first pic is very imaginative. I wonder why nobody else has ever drawn something like that. Anyway, the idea is very nice, but Lisa is a bit fuzzy. Maybe you could redo it sometime.

The second pic looks good and the idea is interesting. The Simpsons have been stuck inside the TV for 2 decades and they haven't cared about it until now. :D

Well I have been at it again, done a new picture for tonight, Using some tips given to me by Suusje. His thread on Grabpics is great for the newbie to this type of drawing. Thanks for sending me the link :)

Again I have taken inspiration from looking at my TV. My TV is also my desktop, which I use the Vista "Real Bliss" Wallpaper., looking at the picture it struck me, a little bank and a good view for Lis to point at, I know she loves nature :)

Face is based on a grab pic and rest was customised from the same pic. Done in Flash 8 and Paint Shop Pro 7 for the shading and the little noticed grass around her feet :)

I hope you like, these are wallpaper sized images, feel free to use them on your desktop if you so desire :)

I wouldn't recommend Lisa to try to swim in that river though, mountain rivers tend to be damn cold.

Ok i had 10 minutes free this morning waiting for something to finish on my PC so i did a very rough quick sketch in pen of an idaa that came to my head this morning. May or may not develop it into a pic on the pc or use it as further idea.

Ah, that's a beaut. :) Yes, a pretty alternative, has a naturlist look to it which definitly fits Lisa. Cute switch from her regular pearls to the necklase too. ;)
Is her hair dark in this version or is it just like that in this scribble?

Not relevant to anything, but her left hand (right on pic) messes with my eyes x_x Feels like I'm seeing double, and I'm getting a bit dizzy if I watch it closely for a few seconds. Anyone else getting that? :D

Yay! Now she looks like her grandma, Mona Simpson! Hair and a flower make me think about hippies :red: She looks indepedent, happy and free. And I like it.

Nice to see new original art here :) Keep it up, please. Pen isn't an easy tool, but you've sketched that quite well, just a little practice will make proportions right, I suppose. Beautiful version of Lis :)

OK i done another new picture this evening. This one is loosely based on the last pen sketch and also incorporates something you do not see to often in The Simpsons.... Lisa and Maggie holding hands.

I have changed Lisa's hair, Lisa's Clothing and Maggie's Clothing too.

Mebbe a hairstyle Lisa may want when she is a bit older ;)

It's a nice picture. Maggie looks great on this one. Lisa too, but her arm is a bit too long and her head seems to be a bit too big. Everything else looks great though. The colors and nice and bright and you've drawn Lisa's new hairstyle nicely. :)

OK after a few comments on the last Lisa and Maggie picture I have done a retouched version. I have changed some of the dimensions and made Lisa's arms a bit fatter and shorter.

I have also changed the type of shading on this one and a different background has been used.

So in effect it is a different picture as they have a different drawing feel to them

It's surely better, the added detail does only good to a picture, the changes in anatomy are correct (they make them cuter and more "cuddable" imo), and the shading as always is useful to give the pic a more "i could be in there just reachign with my arm" feel ;)

You should do a retouched version of the pic you have in the avatar, since it's an awesome idea! :D

Shading adds a lot to a picture and you have done a nice job shading the Lisa and Maggie pic! The modified proportions also make the characters look better and as Marco said more cuddable. :)

My only nitpick is the pupils. They're fading dots now and they should be solid black dots. ;)

Thanks for the comment on the pupils, I didnt really notice at the time but yes, too much fade on them. I like a little bit of fade just to soften them slightly. I have adjusted the pupils and reuploaded.

OK now i have spent some more time learning with the new tools i have re-done the shooting star picture from scratch. Now at a MUCH better resolution of 1280x1024 and no more blockyness.

I have used some of the shading techniques too :)

It is a lot better! The lines look cleaner and the colors look nicer. The shading also came out great. :) And it still is an awesome idea. :D

Finally, that really does make justice to the original idea ;) Clean lines, and nice shading as said... Could even work for a wallpaper, maybe keeping starlisa a little sized down in a corner to leave space for the icons!

As someone has mentioned already, the pupils seem a bit faded, could do with being sharper, but I feel that's being quite picky....otherwise, it looks good :)

Ok due to SimpReal's comments I have done 2 further versions of the shooting star picture

A standard aspect wallpaper with Lisa moved down smaller in the bottom right to leave room for icons, a different moon and Saturn & Ring nebula added.

Nice work! By any chance, are you an amateur astronomer? :) You even added the constellation Orion to the pic.

no i dont do astronomy, but orion and another constellation hidden in the picture are 2 that are very visable here.

Also the great pyramids of Giza, the 3 pyramids are built on the same alignment as the centre 3 stars.

My dad was VERY intrested on egyptology and the Giza pyramids,  so this in a kind of way is a tribute to his memory in the picture.

The other constellation I will not mention, people will have to find it ;)

*They are NOT in their real positions, just randomly inserted also the other constellation may or may not face the correct direction, be mirrorred or flipped ;)

I love this idea of a shooting star Empethree, I think its a really cute image for Lis'.  :D

I'm really interested in astronomy too, just a shame I dont really know anything about it (I'm stuck with 'Turning Points' in physics, other than Astronomy). But its probably one of the reasons I like this so much. :) Nice one!

I have been slaving over a hot mouse again.... done a new picture from scratch.

OK so being in the LTS chat has given me some wil ideas. There has been a running joke between Leon and me in there about a picture that Leon posted in chat regarding a conversation earlier in the day which caused me to laugh while i was drinking my tea. I managed to give my MDA Windows Mobile Smart Phone a good soaking thanks to this picture :)

Anyway a second sketch was drawn by Leon of my MDA with a "splash guard"

Anyway this gave me an idea for a new picture. It is a very similar idea to my Lisa TV picture, with Lisa inside an electronic device (she is happy in this one dont worry :D )

It was based on a picture I have on the phone itself, so i decided to draw the phone with Lisa on-screen.

Phone and Lisa are drawn entirely in Flash and Photoshop. A few little touch-ups and addition of the button labels was done in Paint Shop Pro 7 (as i know how to do a whole lot more in it  and it made the little fiddly bits easier. Shading and shadowing done in Photoshop too.

I am not 100% happy about the slide out keyboard's buttons, I may revisit that part at a later time and redo those.

That looks great. It looks way better than my sketch of your phone. :p I just have one tiny nitpick: Lisa's first spike (the one next to her left eye) looks a bit strange. It looks as if it disappears into one of her eyelashes. Other than that it looks awesome. :)

By the way, how did you create the chrome effect on the buttons?

Yeah was drawing that at about 4-5am so tiredmess means i mucked that bit up a bit, i will redo when i get time.

As for the chrome buttons, I have no idea lol..... I selcted each individual area of the button, ie the top rim, bottom rim, and used the Filter Effects > Chrome and then laid a few filter effects over that at random untill i got the desired look. Trial end error mostly, and sheer luck lol

Those are nice drawings by you. :) I like a lot the idea of Lisa the Shooting Star, it's so unusual, yet I myself has something similar in my mind to draw someday.
Lisa indeed seems to be a star that shines around the people... for the people. A falling star that flashes in the black skies. It's so interesting to gaze into the sky in the night. I remember how I spent quite much time when I was going through the evening streets. The stars was so far away from me but it all as if surrounded me... And such your poetic matching gives me a good associations with my of feelings. I wish I have spent much more time gazing at stars, as it was in great episode "Scuze Me While I Miss the Sky". :)

The last one with Lisa in the smartphone looks adorable :) Her only bright and interested look makes me to feel myself better a bit. A strange nitpick with her right spike near the eye - like someone has bited off the lock of her hair. :) In other aspects picture seems to be ok, nice to see how paid attentions to all that buttons :D I wish though it would be a Lisa-related parts but still... Good picture.

Ok i can see what happened now with the wierd bit of hair. when i opened the flash file, I must of "caught" the line with my mouse and accidently bent it the wrong way. I sometimes do that when i click to quick on something I usually correct it straight away. Obviously didnt notice I did it this time  :eek:.

I have uploaded a revised version now on the above URL which fixes it.

Aaah, i want that phone :D The amount of detail of the phone is impressive and well done, and the simplicity of Lisa is cute and very much on model, especially after the fix. Congrats!

i never posted in this topic before, so i apologize....
nice pictures. and more important, they show interesting ideas and approaches. the last picture (lisa in the cellphone) also shows good combination of simplicity and details. all those buttons dont distract you from the main part, which is well done too, especially if you didnt use any grabpic and drew it yourself. i like it.

OK there is a first time for everything.

I just got a new Graphics tablet yesterday and today heralds the first day i have properly used it, so much to get used to..... getting used to pressures, hand angles and watching the screen rather than where the pen is.

After a few times managing to drag my menubars into oblivion, I did a lisa tracing using the tablet. The colouring and shading was also done with the pen too.

Its very rough and not to good lol

It doesn't look that bad, except for Lisa's necklace. But tracing something with a pen or brush tool requires a lot of fiddling and time. I think it's easier to use the line tool next time. ;) It's great practice, though.

And the coloring looks great :)

Another new one by me, after helping Leon with his LTS draft design logo, I decided to start a new drawing. This tiome I decided todo one of Maggie.

The drawing is of maggie a bit older, maybe 1 1/2 - 2 years old, still loving the pacifier.

She has grabbed a mic and is about to sing, she has popped the pacifier out her mouth and is about to bring the mic to her mouth.

Was originally going to be holding something else, but it didnt look right and I saw my radio station mic on the desk and I thought, "that would be cute" So viola!

Done in Flash & Photoshop. Shading by the new graphics tablet.

As usual in a kinda wallpaper format.

Yay, more Maggie fanart! I like the her pose and expression. It looks as if she's just about to put the pacifier back in her mouth. ^^ The technical apects: she looks on model, the shading and colors look nice and the line-art looks clean. :)

This is going to be a background for an up and coming picture... still not 100% decided which characters are going to be in it..... I have a couple of ideas which will remain "secret" until the final picture.

But as i finished most of the background part i thought i would post it as the finished picture may take awile :) There are a couple of little bits left to do, but i may draw them in when i add the characters.

I may also use it for other things too.

Loving the artwork ^^ You seem to have a great grasp of the style ^^. One thing I love about your images, is the fact that you add excellent backdrops to your characters. Your most recent image of the street is by far the coolest looking version of Evergreen terrace that I have ever beheld. I always have a problem with such things. Its mainly cause Im lazy, and dislike drawing buildings and scenery. Also, your shooting star picture (as is agreed by many) is an absolutely brilliant idea. It suits not only her nature, but also her entire being.

Woah, it's amazing! :) Even without any characters, it is. Like those trees, buildings also look impressive. The texture on the ground looks a little odd (maybe it's too smooth to look like asphalt), but still good, and nice touch with that texture "dissipating" at the horizon.

OK, after a break at the tablet and a LOAD of internet problems, here is my latest picture.

It is based on my 2nd oldest pic, Lisa on TV, except the TV is now more detailed and properly drawn. Also added the correct logos and better shading and shadowing. The TV is a picture of my real TV drawn while looking at the screen. The speaker detailing I have also increased, look closely and the holes are sort of 3D and the speaker vents can be seen too.

The picture on screen is a total departure from Lisa stuck in the TV. The image depicts Lisa getting her own back. Think of Lisa having a TV at the other end and like a interdimensional portal she is turning off the TV to the outside world with a sly smile on her face.

Done in Flash/PSP and a few touchups done in PSP 7. Unline the original which was manually drawn using PSP only and a mouse. This was done on the tablet.

When it goes to the technical side, you have no equal as it seems - the TV is perfectly done on this picture. Especially all those details on speakers and shadows falling from the numbers. Small but important details. Lisa, though, could be improved a bit... for example, her visible hand. Try to take the remote the same way - you won't be able to do that :p her chest is also too thin, it should be wider than her neck. And her limbs should be just slightly thinner than her neck. I hope you don't mind those nitpicks... besides, everything what's above the pearls was done very well. In particular, Lisa has sweet expression!

thanks dag for the comments...... i did vow to stop drawing at 3am in the morning when i am half asleep, i did the TV much earlier lol..... looking back while wide awake i can see the obvious, i was trying a kind of wierd perpective but that did not work well. And yes what looked ok while drawing the remote looks wrong now. I have ideas how I can correct that when I get time. I suppose i got the bidy wrong as i am more used to drawing full body shots and the picture being cut at the bottom of the screen I found it harder to judge.

I am hacked off at myself for making such glaring errors tho. So if you ever see me in chat after 2am please tell me to go to bed heh heh.....

It is the kind of picture I can redo with different themes so I will revisit this idea again no doubt. :)

I can reassure you that even with those proportion mistakes, you picture is far better than most of my sketches. Huge head and small body is my usual mistake :) but your picture still turned out very well, after all, it's the idea, and also Lisa's face and expression that makes the picture. But if you can fix her hand, I'm only for it. :lisa:

OK a long time since I last donned the mouse and graphics tablet. This is actually my first drawing this year!!!

Shame I rarely get a change to do something I am happy with lately... I hate work!!! Bah!

Anyway as I am a bit rusty, and out of proactise not opening up photoshop since December I thought I would ease myself back in with a grabpic. Not just any old grabpic mind, I had to totally redo it with shading, effects and a redrawn background.

Anyway it is one of my favourite scenes from 9F08 "Lisa's First Word", Little Bart with Baby Lisa after she said her first word. Anyway I have redrawn this in widescreen format and made it extra high res wallpaper size too.

Another long gap between drawings..... after beign a bit battered and bruised at the weekend I decided to go for a grabpic until I can move properly again.

One of my favourite scenes from The Simpsons Movie, where Lisa meets Colin, she acts simply adorable in this scene :)

As usual, I Don't entirely draw it as the original. This is the Enhanced version with more detail, shading and textures too... and an added lens flare for effect. Enhanced the colours to make it look more crisp too, but the sunlight gives it a softness I am happy with. Still I would of liked to have made it so much more lifelike, but I'll wait for my recovery before I attempt something more ambitious.

As usual I create them at wallpaper resolution so they can be used by people if they so wish, having my nice 22" monitor this one (as the last picture) is at a large 1680x1050 pixels and should display nicely on any widescreen monitor.

I am currently working on a complex simpsons picture involving the family (or most of it anyway). Its going to be a fusion of 2 worlds.

Until that is done I took a little time to touch up nother picture I didnt get a chance to finish and post it. There are quite a few mistakes but dont have time to fix them at the moment, as I will be working on the new Simpsons picture.

I decided just after I got my new car to create a picture of it as I did with my last.

Wish I could do that, creating virtual cars is a high end field these days. People constantly want to modify and personalise their cars, but are worried how it would look in the end. Virtual cars is a free way to find out what body parts etc suit the car :P

OK slosly getting some stuff completed. Here is first line draft of a new picture I am doing, merges 2 worlds I am involved in. Simpsons & World of Warcraft. And it uses drawing styles in both simpsons and WoW. I told Calculated Chaos about it a couple and I was going to show him once I got homer to a level I was happy with. Turned out deleting him and starting again. First time drawing Homer, Marge and Santa's Little Helper!

This is just a rough draft so far, drawing the character armour and positioning them on screen for the background. And I am working slow atm due to work i thought I would at least release what I have done so far. I have the colours planned and some further ideas to think before I colour, shade and add background!

OK. I have coloured the first character in. Of course the first character had to be Lis.

At first I wasn't sure about the eyes, but looking again it seems to give her an Alert look, so she is ready to strike! ;)

In that black and white pic, Homer looks kinda drunk. And Marge has no eyelashes. :P

Yeah.... thought it would be funnier to have homer in a different pose, the coloured version will explain that when done!

Yup, Marge has no eye lashes lol..... only when I started colouring lisa, I applied the simpsons colouring to all the flesh on all characters I noticed Marge. They are present on the coloured version.

....All right then. All is well with the universe.

Have a hard time picturing Homer as a Priest, would think he'd be more of the Warrior type, take a beating, go into Rampage etc.

Bart is perfect as Hunter, though. Really good looking Beast Stalker Armor there.

The armor on Marge looks like the Mage T6 set, although the shoulders might be a bit off.

Lisa was hard, but she is also a Mage.

No idea what Maggie is supposed to be wearing.

About the art, it looks okay. Lisa is a bit off-scale, I think her head might need to be a tad bigger, and her neck is too long.
Bart looks quite fine, and so does Maggie and SLH.

Something bothers me about Marge. Her curves don't seem to be in the right places. If you get what I mean, that's good, because I don't. She's a bit more sexy looking than she is on the show, but nothing wrong with that. Her dress seems a bit flat, you drew her dress differently than Homer's, which looks better, looking at the bottom of the dresses.

Homer's probably the worst drawn of the 6. The armor is detailed and all, but his pose looks unconfortable and unnatural. His expression makes him look drunk (or very tired), but not in a good way. The shape of his head and his nose is a bit off, too. Also, he doesn't seem fat enough, although you might have wanted him to lose weight.

thanks for the comments.... i have modified some of the armour a bit as without some changes things didnt look right. And in some cases looked over complex, used a bit of artistic licence to move things around a bit, add or take things away.

Maggie is not wearing any type of armour from the game, just her normal attire, but a bit modified the final picture may explain.

Lisa, yeah i am making a couple of changes, it is not that the neck is too long but the shape i made the top of the armour to fit with the character, think of it as more low cut, I am going to change the top of the armour as it does give the impression of the neck being long.

Marge, agin I am going to colour that first and see how it coms out, weather it makes a change to the perception, can always redo if needed. I agree the clothing on marge looks flat, i shal probably tweak that, although to be honest Lisa looked a bit flat until I added in all the shading and shadowing.

Homer, He is in that pose for a reason, the coloured version will show why he looking dazed and uncomfortable. I tried Homer as a warrior but couldnt get him looking right, i looked at the priest armor and did a quick mockup and i found I was happierwith the look. Yes I have put Homer on a diet, again didnt look right when fat. The final coloured version shows why I chose it, Homer's lack of thought and forward thinking will show him mis-playing that class!

The characters are not generall based on simpsons models. As stated before I am mixing the Simpsons style of drawing with the Warcrft art style, so the bodies are a mixture of both styles.

To my opinion, it's very well done, putting an unusual clothes on a character is always hard. Lisa looks very natural here, even in that "thick" costume, and I like that she still has a bits of her Tracey Ullman Era appearance. :)
The texture on her armor is nicely shaded, by the way.

OK finally got some time to go back to the Simpsons warcraft picture. As suggested I will reveal each character one by one.

Bart in his hunter attire, came out better than i was aiming for to be honest.

Also due to some suggestions I have played around with Lisa's picture a bit. Especially the neckline which made it look like a longer neck!

Simply fantastic coloring, Carl. Of all your contributions, this looks to be the one you've put the most effort into and it shows! Bart looks like, well, Bart! And Lisa's neck was such a minor thing, didn't bother me at all. I'm really looking forward to seeing the completed picture. (Maybe I could tempt you with a commision based on my story! ;) )

First off, Bart is spot on. Good job. Great coloring.

Second, something has bothered me about Lisa for a while (even though you fixed the neck). It's most likely the way you drew her upper lip, which is not the normal way it is drawn (go ahead, use Google image search), even though it's not wrong. If it's your style, it's probably nothing you should change.

I agree wit hall others in that the colorings are looking fabulous as of now! And the whole picture is sure full of great details.

About lisa's smile as capadde said: i don't think the problem lies much in the overbite, which is ok drawn like that even if in earlier season the curve was inwards and the "tip" more sharp. I think it's more because of the fact that her smile reaches to oclose to her ear.. maybe it should be shorter and less "curve" so the cheeck line is somewere under her right eye.

But it's just real nitpick this one, keep on coloring as thiss will be a masterpiece worthy of a desktop wallpaper :)

OK i am scrapping the idea of releasign the characters one by one. After most of today sitting at the pc drawing I have  santa's little helper done, maggie done and marge about 95% done. Homer is started too and about 10% finished. Background is now ready too.

So hopefully the next picture you will see is the finished article! My longest and most detailed picture I think. Taken me 2 weeks so far!

OK after an all night drawing session i would like to announce the WoW picture is finished!

Drawing completed in Flash & Photoshop CS3 (with a few touch ups and text added with Pain Shop Pro 7.) This is probably my most time consuming and detailed drawing to date. (Followed by the picture of my car). It took me 2 weeks of 1 hour sessions to get the picture to the level I was pleased with. And I went back and retouched and re-drew a couple of bits. Hopefully the picture also explains the look of each character.

Lisa - ClobberGirl - Mage, seemed to suit Lisa, and the armour looked best on her.
Bart - ElBarto - Hunter, Definately suits Bart, and gives a part for SLH.
SLH - Santario - Hunter's Pet
Marge - FrostMarge - Frost Mage, thus the pun on the name.
Maggie - Maggrio - Minion (Ok Mage's cannot have minion's, but it sounds better).
Homer - Donutio - Priest - And a bad one at that, thus the stance, Homers lack of forethought means he is totally mis-playing the class and getting hammered.

*In the background i make a sort of cameo appearance as Fragsoll from the Ascendance Guild, the guild I am in. I did not include Snowball, as made the screen look too crowded, But would of been Lisa's non-combat pet.

If anyone wants this as a wallpaper, but without the in-game player labels, this is a non-text version. Just the characters.

Each character came out very close to 'on model' (or just 'on model'), especially with this being a first go at most of 'em.
Nice touch on Homer's injuries, I'm guessing it implies his lack of melee prowess?

Yeah pretty much, I can pretty much imagine Homer running in with fists not taking time to think out his skills, role and class abilities. Lets just say he tried to get in to a fight with a level 70 fully specced enemy who thinks before acting! ;)
